Days of Future Past Was Quicksilver originally intended to be Northstar? (Some spoilers)

How could this Quicksilver be killed or captured? He's ridiculously powerful. The only other mutant we've seen who compares is Dark Phoenix. Even then, i'm not sure what she could do to him.

there are devices which can suppress a person's powers. He could also be ambushed either in his sleep or betrayed by someone he trusts. He's not infallible. He could slip up and make a catastrophic mistake which ends up working against him

I don't think so. If they get someone like Leech, his powers wouldn't work and someone could just knock him out. He's not really invincible.

And it might exist in the MCU (Department H was referenced in AoS). It's possible that Fox doesn't have Alpha Flight rights.

Heather Hudson was in origins and was played by an older lady. And even if they don't have the rights to the actual team, its not really a problem to me. Fox still has a huge pool of characters to choose from.

That would have been cool to see the first gay character in a superhero movie. If they're not going with Magneto as the father why not just make him Northstar?

Oh well. Avengers Quicksilver has stiff competition :D

They seem to have taken aspects from Northstar for this Quicksilver. He's a former Olympian and Wolverine knows him. That sounds like Northstar to me.

If they make him Northstar, I hope they give him a love interest. :hrt:

They have already made him Quicksilver :D. If he were Northstar I would kill myself :wall:

There are many core X-men with more interesting story than Northstar. I don't see the story of Northstar in the movie. If only some background character without lines or the character who is gonna be killed like many characters in Last Stand.

To put him in a movie because he is gay it is ridiculous.

That's a ridiculous thing to say. That's like saying the only reason storm is in the movie is because she is black.

I would love to see northstar but not played by Evan simply because they have already defined him as quicksilver. Still if quicksilver is turned into a horseman bringing northstar in to take him down would be amazing.

I would love to see a love interest too. Hopefully one that's more interesting than the one he is with now.

To be fair I think we all know why northstar hasn't appeared in any animated cartoons yet and it's got nothing to do with his star power[/QUOTE said:
If you're implying he hasn't been seen in an animated cartoon because he is gay, you're ridiculous! Look back at the X-Men cartoons we've had, sure you got love interests like Cyclops/Jean, Wolverine/Jean, Rogue/Gambit e.t.c, but they are just who the characters are and are integral to any X-Men adaptation, other X-Men like Storm, Beast and so on have no love interest in some of the cartoons and never express feelings for another character, neither same or opposite sex, couldn't they just do that with Northstar?

The fact of the matter is, he just isn't that great a character, and pretty much everyone who doesn't read comics has no idea who he is. To put him in a movie simple because he is gay is madness.
I could just be speaking for myself here but I'm pretty sure the majority of true Xfans would have much rather seen Quicksilver than Northstar in that movie, given the fact that Quicksilver is just a better character and has so much history rooted to X-Men.

Oh, and Northstar appeared in the 1990's animated series.

I don't know, as a huge X-Men fan, I think I'd have rather seen Northstar than Quicksilver. Not only would this have been a nod to the fans of Alpha Flight, but it would also spark interest back into that character. The fact that his character is gay, shouldn't be the reason he was added into a movie, but the fact that he is gay would be a big step forward for the franchise which has a heavy theme in all of it's movies of persecution and oppression.

Also including Northstar over Quicksilver would be easier to use him for a one time cameo action scene, where Quicksilver who would be more popular to the casual X-Men fans might demand him to return in future X-Films. Producers may see the audience reaction from Quicksilver (fans wanting to see more of the character they are familiar with from the comics or animated series) and force the writers to include him in the next film and expand his story arch, which may be difficult for the writers to include content in what I'm sure is already going to be a very complex movie. The addition of Quicksilver and Scarlet Which in the next Avengers movie might also either confuse fans of both franchises or prompt the fans to demand more from Quicksilver in the XFilms and address his twin sister.

I'm content with the addition of Quicksilver in DOFP, but as a big X-Fan I would have been extremely happy to a nod at Northstar AND the inclusion of the Quicksilver character in the Avengers.

Apparently at the very beginning he was intended to be Juggernaut but Bryan Singer thought his powers had been played out already so he wanted a character with powers not yet seen in an X-Men movie. He chose Quicksilver for that reason, started casting and then Whedon said he'd be doing him as well.

Storm was one of the first black super-heroine. So it's a big deal actually.

I don't want to see gay character like Northstar in the movie especially with love interest. There is no room for that in the movie.

Whoa ease up on the prejudice. So what if Northstar is gay? I don't think he is big enough of a character that if he was ever added to the franchise that he would have a love interest, but still. You don't want to see them add a gay character... that's pretty hateful

I can't argue with you, I to am a huge X-Men fan, but my personal preference would be to see Quicksilver, but like I said earlier, thats just speaking for myself, I never really cared for Alpha Flight in general, but I agree a nod to them would be nice, especially for Alpha Flight fans such as yourself.

I heard somewhere apparently then want Quicksilver back for Apocalypse based on the audience reaction he got. Whilst I agree I don't like important characters being used as a one time cameo, it's also hard for any character to shine in a movie featuring Wolverine, seeing as Fox have a major wood for him, which makes sense from a money making point of view, but it still stinks that he's always the main player.

Northstar being gay just doesn't matter to me at all, sure it would be great for the movie to feature a gay character, because well it just makes sense, like why wouldn't there be gay mutants, but if you got a scene in an X-film where you want to feature a speedster, Quicksilver is the obvious first choice, the fact that Northstar is gay doesn't give him a one up over Quicksilver in my opinion, being gay or straight shouldn't factor in a decision like that.

No, I don't like Northstar. Any other gay character - it's ok. But anyway all this love stories never were part of X-men movies. Yeah, we saw something between Rogue and Iceman. Jean-Scott-Wolverine love triangle.

But honestly I don't want to see love stories as a big part of the plot. And about love interest for gay character - movies are made for majority so I don't expect to see a big role and storyline for gay character.

when did they say he was a former Olympian?

You can apply that same logic and say no xmen movie should have a black actor in it or Hispanic or asian when it comes to superhero films.

Northstar has as much right to be in the xfranchise as any other mutant not just because he's gay but because he's fantastic

Okay. It's your right to think like that. I have another opinion.

He might go on to become a future Olympian. He most definetly was NOT in this film

Xavier can stop him,

How? His reflexes are shown to be faster than thought. He could blitz Xavier before he could even process a thought.

The way he is portrayed in this film is more like Wally West.

Maybe if he were face to face with Xavier, but Xavier can be in another room completely out of his view and take him out. He cant react to something if he doesnt know its coming. Again, he can be ambushed. Its completely plausible that he could be taken out in his sleep or when he least expects it.

Of course that is possible.

But in an actual battle situation, Quicksilver could solo all the X-Men (apart from maybe Dark Phoenix. I say maybe because we never saw any reaction/reflexes feats from her. She can manipulate matter at a molecular level, but if she has normal human reflexes, that won't matter to someone like Quicksilver).
