The context of the scene is not to be a breathtaking action sequence in a blockbuster. Its actually quite a character-driven scene where the two characters revisit their past careers. That's why they smile at the start and the end. Its a release.

So no, its not meant to look like a typical fight in a big budget movie. That would be a bad thing.

I do know your posting style, dark_b, and how you analyse films based on studio decisions (I don't have a problem with it) and I know you're an intelligent person. But I suggest you do some research on what Watchmen is about so you can get a better view of what this movie is trying to do.

Well said and very true.

I for one read the book and loved it and also understand exactly what they are trying to do....

....that being said I am a bonafide action film/superhero/sci-fi/explosion in your face/bad @$$ lover from everything to Predator, to T2 to 300 to Die Hard to WHATEVER and even though it wasn't supposed to be a 'breathtaking action scene from a blockbuster' I absolutely LOVED the Nite Owl/Silk Spectre prison scene!!!

You could actually see what the hell was going on in the scene quite nicely and the slow motion is awesome...so what if its used? Its not like the whole movie is in slow mo or anything....I for one would prefer slow motion to that epileptic ******** nonsense that was in the Batman movies...which reallllly pissed me off! Although Dark Knight was at least a little bit better (...Batman didn't even kick anyone though what's up with that? That was kind of weak...just a series of punches) I lost it when I saw the fighting in these films...here you have Batman who is an awesome fighter and character you want to be able to see what he is doing..not to mention see the hard work everyone involved in the scene had to go through in order to bring it to the masses....instead? They gave the camera to a blind seizure ridden 4 year old who loves the Bourne movies....no thanks.

This scene was awesome and Nite Owls suit is just (not to sound 'fruity' or anything :P) gorgeous..it is! I mean the design the muscle structure, the beauty in the way the cape flows and sounds, the way he beats down those thugs, his moves its wicked!

I'm more than happy with it myself :)

You really didn't see what was going on in the TDK fight scenes? I thought that Nolan completely changed his approach for that film and slowed down the camera in most scenes.

Prison Scene looks cool to me in Watchmen. But agree that Dan especially looks to be in too good shape/form.

Don't dare to watch the MTV clip, even if I appriaciate that a person uploaded it to youtube for us. MTV is so shallow(not that it ever were brilliant) and idiotic these days. Even the music sucks for the most part.

Oh, I followed the fight sequences just fine. But still doesn't mean I liked how they were filmed. Still seems that's one aspect he's yet to feel comfortable with.

I know I am already getting tired of endless complaints about the slow motion again and again and again and again...
Some of you say it so much, just put it in your damn sig...

Agreed.
I thought the slow motion was going to be too overdone but it really isn't.
If you're expecting '300' slow motion, you're in for a surprise. It isn't like that at all. A lot less slo mo and definitely more subtle. :yay:

uh....so uh...how do you guys like the prison scene?

Oh, and the prison screen looks WAAAAYYYYYY better on the big screen. HUGE difference. And we saw the movie on a little tiny movie screen.
So, I cant wait for IMAX! :wow:

Watching the Prison scene clip made me more confident that the general audience is going to dig this movie as well. I though the clip was awesome and I loved the smiles at the beginning, captured the novel perfectly while complimenting that with some big-screen action.

It's a shame how only the GA only responds to a film as "good" or "great" by only the action. It's what they really mean. I mean the charcters too but that's about as deep as they'll go. They really only like the films for their action scenes and only talk about those parts.
