Welcome to Yesterday - Time Travel Found Footage

The original title was Almanac as well. A reference to Back to the Future Part II? Hmm, maybe

If they say it was a coincidence, they're full of it. Really, a time travel movie released in 2015 called Project Almanac? The only way it could have been any more on the nose is if it were actually called Back to the Future Part II.

Almanac: an annual calendar containing important dates and statistical information such as astronomical data and tide table

It's just a time-related term. Nothing unusual for a time travel movie. Not everything is a reference to some other movie and there is no need to project some kind of ulterior motives onto this.

Review

Saw this yesterday. I will keep it brief.

It's shot like the blair witch project - which is all very well and good, but then don't add a soundtrack at some points (which is the way it felt, especially at the start) - just took me out of it.

Also, some scenes the character in focus was in the background, therefor there is no way audio would be picked up unless they had a microphone, little things like that took me out of the movie, but anyways, down to the story line.

A teenager finds his dads camcorder in the loft, he and his sister watch it and it's his 7th birthday - he noticed a blur in the background - pauses it and it's him, how he is now, holding a key chain and his current t shirt but with a purple stain on it. This freaks him out and he shows his friends, that are all (along with him) mega smart brainiacs hoping to get into MIT.

They go down into his basement (his dad died on his 7th birthday by the way) and his dad had all his old DARPA machines hidden and protected by dust sheets.

They start looking into it all and find a device hidden in the floor, it basically turns out to be a time machine his dad was working on.

They - using hydrogen stolen from their school - manage to get it working. Sending forward in time a toy car, then wondering about what to do next, they opt to send germs or a mouse, but instead they all decide to go together.

They go 24 hrs back in the past, draw on one of their necks (let's say friend a) whilst asleep, which then makes the drawing appear on his (friend A) neck. Friend a woke up and saw them and the two of them started to blur out, As if to say anything you do in the past, has a ripple effect. So they ran out the house.
They get chased by a dog and then jump back to the present. The dog comes with them. They then notice new signs every where, looking for the missing dog, so they realize - obviously that they an change the past as the dog in their time line didn't go missing - again just reinstating ripple effect.

So they go back in time to do cool little tricks - distract friend B so the jumping friend b can take his place in an exam.

Appear in front of a bully to give them pay back and also win the lottery.

They then go back a month to their school field where an awesome concert was happening, so they appeared under the bleachers and were there for free.

Friend C realizes he missed out a perfect opportunity to kiss a girl, so later that night he jumps back to that time (even tho they all said no one jumps alone) and kisses her - but then surely wouldn't there be 3 of him in that universe, with 2 at that same location??

When he kisses her, he jumps back to the present (doesn't explain where the original was that had previously jumped back) and then he saw the news and because of the fact they have been jumping, it has a butterfly effect, they realize cos they changed things slightly, a friend broke a leg, missed a basketball match, they lost, the dad - a pilot -never went to the final and flew the plane instead, it crashed etc etc.

So Friend c jumps back alone to try and fix it but it makes it worse, his girl joins him, sees herself in the past and they both get wiped out of existence.

So the one guy who started it all jumps back to his 7th birthday, just before the cops could get him for abduction.

He goes downstairs, where his dad is, he explains it all, tells him to hide the machine. He then breaks it or burns it and he fades away (in the same universe as his younger self).

So it skips 10 years, his younger self is now old and doing the exact same thing as the start of the movie, in the loft, where he finds the camera again, but this time there are 2 cameras, the original camera and the one he took back in time and his mum probably gathered it up. He watches it and sees the whole time travel events that happens and this is where its the end, but you get the feeling he will try and recreate it, but do good.

Some good scenes, but way too many plot holes, like, wouldn't there be multiple you if you keep going back to the same point?

They built it pretty easily, when their dad that was working at DARPA, couldn't.

Also, being shot in that style, just restricts you to what you can show off camera

i'd give it 6/10

Netflix

Dude, you know you're supposed to spoiler tag this stuff.

Vaibow,

Please use spoiler tags if you're going to describe the entire storyline of a movie.

Saw this Friday night. It's okay at best but I would NOT recommend paying full price to see this. It's a 6/10 for me, wait til it hits Netflix. Or you can just read Vaibow's post as he or she pretty much tells the entire storyline point for point.

And the beast was named, on its forehead its name was marked : torrent ! :(
