I used to read comics in high school but just got into collectinig comics after such a big break. I heard one of my favorite characters was dying, Wolverine. It spurred me to look into comics. I have learned so much more than my high school self ever knew. I had no idea about first print, variant editions, price guides, grading, and properly storing comics. My collection is off to a pretty good start and I love learning more cool stuff about comics. I've been trolling some forums and have found that there seems to be a few different types of comic collectors.

Collectors who keep the collection for profit. The comics are catalogued, stored, never opened and kept as pristine as possible for maximum value. Collectors who collect comics of characters, publishers, stories they like. They read the comics and then store them to both enjoy the story and artwork while still preserving some value. Others read their comics and only store some comics more for preservation than the idea of it becoming valuable some time.

I started out storing my first print comics and buying either 2nd, 3rd print or digital versions to read and enjoy the story and artwork. I've since switched to storing some comics that may hold value while reading others that are for my enjoyment. After reading I store them but I'm less concerned with the value of the ones I read. So how do you guys collect?

:STR: I had to do this just because Stormtroopers are awesome

I am a collector who collects for stories and characters. I do not care about value. I store my trades (only collect trades/hardcovers) on a shelf.

Enjoy the stories, never buy to sell/profit, OCD collector at heart so the collecting aspect of the hobby helped draw me in.
