What's the deal with all these sitcoms being so painfully unfunny?

According to Jim, Everybody loves Raymond, Will and Grace, 8 simple rules, Love Inc, Crumbs, Hope and faith, Living with ****ing Fran, Two and a half men, Joey, What I like about you, crap, mega crap, etc. (and countless others)

Jesus Christ, are the people involved in these shows aware of how painfully unfunny they are?

And stuff like Titus and Arrested Development get cancelled :down

At least I still have Scrubs and The Office.

Don't get me started on Hope and Faith. That is the most painfully RUBBISH piece of television programming I have ever seen. And I used to watch the Teletubbies :o

In my opinion the laugh track they put on sitcoms ruins it. It's basically insulting our intelligence by telling us when we should laugh. That's why I love Scrubs. If Scrubs had a laugh track it would ruin it.

Not everywhere, I like the natural laughter in shows like Seinfeld....they have people in the studio and you know...it's actually funny.

With the influx and oversaturation of "reality" shows on TV, I think a lot of writer have actually forgotten how to write a TV show.

Another good question is why so many of these sitcoms seem to feel it necessary to make the "man of the house" a fat and dim-witted oaf, while the woman is hot, intelligent, and a *****.

WTF?

According to Jim, I'm looking at you.

It really is annoying, but hey....they are real men because they like football, playboy and beer!

My parents like that show. :(

I have a few gripes with sitcoms:

1) The fake looking sets. I know it's "traditional," but for crying out loud, we know it's a set. I mean, we only see a room from two or three angles. There's a whole wall we never see (because that's where the set ends). It's not hard to build a set that's an actual room. All it means is that you'll have to use real interior lighting instead of studio lights. And they only use studio lights because of the way the set is put together.

2) The laughtracks. Laughtracks suck ass. They are completely unnecessairy. I don't need to be told when to laugh. Plus, it just kind of ruins the atmosphere. Pulls you out of it.

3) The bad writing. This is the clincher. Everyone is just saying stupid **** and not even trying to actually be funny. It's really sad.

Hey. Hey.

Don't. Diss. Two and a Half Men :cmad:

 Stopped watching 'sitcoms' a while ago- because all are basically the same show with a different cast. But, one of my favorite sitcom/comedy shows is Two and a Half Men.

Guess, everyone just has a different sense in what they consider to be funny or not funny.

Exactly.

How many sitcoms rely on stories where the men does something that he knows the wife won't like (strip club, watching porn, goin' out with the boys, whatever) and then tries to cover it up, gets caught, and has to deal with the wacky consequences?

I'm not a big fan of sitcoms in general, but at least some of the shows from the "golden age" of sitcoms had male lead characters that were intelligent and not fat. Danny Tanner, anyone?

Sitcoms have really gone to hell latley, but I do see a few bright spots with Two and a Half Men and How I Met Your Mother. Scrubs and My Name is Ealr are both great, but I'm not sure if they fit into the traditional sense of what a sitcom is. Shows like Everyone Loves Raymond and The King of Queens are decent, but I rarley watch sitcoms, and when I do they are older ones that have long gone of the air like Mad About You and Seinfeld.

My beef is mainly with Friends. I'm not one to criticize someone's taste in television, but I just don't see what is so great about this show. I know it was only the most popular sitcom ever and the whole world shut down when it was cancelled, but I don't see what was so great about it. They ripped off the Seinfeld 30 something friends in New York format, added some more characters and had terrible writing. The jokes never made me laugh, I wanted to punch Joey, and none of the characters were even slightly interesting. Can someone who is a fan of this show, explain to me why it worked so well? I just can't see it.

I've really only been a fan of Seinfeld, Arrested Development, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. Everything else is terrible, or at least subpar.

Dont even get me started on Full House. I hated that cutesy piece of s***.
Anyway, the only shows with laugh tracks I like are Seinfeld and That 70s Show. Other than that its all Arrested development, Scrubs, The Office and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia (Non Laughtrack) or animated comedies.

We'll have to disagree there, Red Power Ranger :(

^Are you f***ing kidding, Deathshead?

Titus not funny? WTF!!?:cmad:

I downloaded the pilot to Crumbs, because some guy on TV.com gave a decent review about it. It was horrendous, I'm storry I was there during filming so I could chuck a grenade into the set and save everyone the trouble.

That's not my type of humor either. But, you didn't like Seinfield?! IMO that's the best sitcom ever.

Yeah, when Arrested Development and Titus are cancelled and Scrubs struggles on ratings and Two And A Half Men is the number one comedy on TV, there´s something wrong with the American audience. I don´t even have The Office, in my country it plays on FX and I don´t have it...
