I always wanted to ask this and i want to see where you all stand. If you had to choose only one comic book show package between the MCU ones and the DC ones which one would you choose? I would like to add that Legion, although not MCU-related is co-made by marvel tv and it counts if you have seen it.

Marvel, but it isn't really a fair competition. Network TV feels so limited compared to what you can get away with on Netflix.

I don't think i agree to that. I think the Marvel shows have better writing on a whole network and Netflix than the CW shows or Gotham for example. The only thing Netflix gives them is violence which is not a deciding factor.

Netflix also allows them to be more focused on single-season narratives that are less episodic and more novelistic. However, even at 13 hours, every Marvel show feels padded and could be 10-episode seasons easily.

I have not watched Legion (but will) or Iron Fist (I won't), but Marvel wins simply because Daredevil and Jessica Jones are the only really truly good TV shows based on comic books. So that is a default win.

As a package? Definitely Marvel. There are certain DC shows I prefer over certain Marvel shows. But Marvel overall is better and DC hasn't made something as good as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, etc.

I wanna say Fox because of Legion, but they only have that one show. So I'll give it to Marvel Studios.

Marvel hands down. Nothing has topped Daredevil S1.

Still yet to watch Legion.

Just to be clear Marvel Studios only makes the MCU movies. Marvel television is responsible for all marvel shows including Legion which co-makes with Fox. Legion is a Marvel show co-made by marvel tv and it was promoted by Marvel.

I'd say Legion is the best show, but it is only one. The CW shows are just getting worse and worse outside of iZombie imo. I love the Netflix shows, so Marvel.

Why is this in the Films section?

Oh and DC,
Gotham / Preacher / iZombie

Legion is practically the best by far, but it's not enough for me to give it to Marvel TV

While the X shows seem to be true co-productions, I will give it them to Fox. Because the co-production nature makes them different than Marvels others. As I am sure many are willing to place any shortcomings Homecoming ends up having to Sony.

So, Fox, for being 1 for 1. I am excited about Gifted, but we have to wait and see.

DC ! Find Agents of Shield dull, Daredevil has its moments but I'm not really into Jessica Jones.

I'd much rather turn off my brain and watch Legends of Tomorrow.
I enjoy Flash, and check out Supergirl and Arrow once in a while.

Modern: Definitely Marvel.
I want to go ancient and say Batman 66 outshines them all.

Marvel easily. Better writing and better acting in my opinion.

Flash, Arrow, Supergirl, Gotham, Lucifer, ect have their good episodes or moments but few of them are ever consistently good over a more than a few episodes in my opinion. To be fair those shows are stuck with the old fashioned 22 episode a season format which tends to dilute the quality of shows as they can't maintain overarching story momentum and have to make filler episodes.

Legends of Tomorrow is possibly the worst live action DC show on at the moment. The writing is bad. The characters are written as idiot screw ups that cause most of their own problems. The show is clearly limited by its budget which means characters simply forget they have superpowers or are written as not being able to use them regularly. It is also incredibly repetitive with characters frequently getting captured or trapped. It doesn't have anywhere near the creativity or imagination of something like Doctor Who.

I agree with the majority of your post especially in the writing part. The only part that i disagree is that the 22 episode format is the reason for the lack of momentum. IMo AOS has shown that with good writing and planning and spliting the season in three pods you can maintain momentum and rythm. AOS also has 22 episodes like the CW shows. The biggest gripe for me is that those shows tease the main villain since the beginning and then he disappears for half a season or is drinking mohittos in Saint Trope instead of making his presence felt.

Daredevil and Jessica Jones are as good as anything in the genre, apart from TDK which is generally put in a class of its own. They are both excellent. They have done a good job with their other shows too, bit those two are quite special. So, once again, Marvel comes out on top. However, TV is an area DC have done a much better job in recent years than they have with their movies. Unlike their movies in recent years (the DCEU), their shows are of a good and acceptable standard, even though they are far from perfect.

not a fair comparison. WB only has Gotham, the rest is unwatchable

Fox despite the over use of made up for TV characters.

Agents of Shield is cringe worthy, Agent Carter had a massive sophomore season slump and the Netflix shows look cheap and they are quite a chore to rewatch unlike the movies. They are too lengthy and they always hold back when it comes to spectacle and visuals. Its mostly talking and yawn.

I don't watch DC shows.

I disagree with pretty much everything but there is no point in repeating that. i respect your opinion.

Marvel with it's Netflix shows are the best for me, with Daredevil being the best.

I've yet to watch Legion though. Only saw the first episode, which was interesting but didn't make me care much about anything. I will watch more at some point though as one episode doesn't say much.

Depends - Are we including constantine? Preacher? Those two shows are phenomenal renditions of there characters.

I also think because daredevil isn't released weekly its much easier to follow, as you can legitimately binge watch.

Arrow has its ups & downs and I liked season 1 arrow better than s1 daredevil, flash was good in its first season, I couldn't get through Jessica Jones, but was able to watch Daredevil season 2 (which I really enjoyed), and season 2 arrow was very similiar in quality..the problem is 3 & 4 are terrible from arrow, but 5 seems to have fixed the sinking ship.

Luke Cage was good, I just couldn't get in it, but I appreciated it for what it was.

I stopped agents of shield the same time I stopped Gotham, as I think both shows are bad renditions of there characters.

I think there very similar in terms of quality if you compare direct to direct as DC seems to have quite a bit more shows out there, so I'm gonna go 50/50 on this.

Marvel. I know the DC CW shows have their fans but there's really no comparison in terms of quality, even if I don't care for SHIELD and Iron Fist had a ton of problems.

DC. The Marvel shows may have better quality but none of the DC shows have bored me like the second season of Agent Carter, the second half of Luke Cage, and Iron Fist. Also, DC has more variety. The Marvel shows are too similar to each other.

I fail to see how AOS is similar to DD or Jessica Jones to Luke Cage or iron Fist. if anything the CW shows are more guilty of a "formula" with a the hero building a team around him and the villain of the week format.
