Cultures take from each other and change over time. The very English Language these morons are talking is a mixture of numerous languages and dialects over the centuries.

A little Europe doesn't even make sense in regards to talking about little Italy and other European 'little areas'. When did places like Italy, Ireland, France and so on stop being a part of Europe?

What I was asking why no one ever questions it. If we're to move past discrimination of those not like us, why enforce friendly but stern "no outsiders" sections of cities unless you're just visiting?

I'm not defending this white supremacists group and want no part of it but I am curious as to the justification of the literal opposite side of the coin where ethnic towns can exist without inclusion of other ethnicities and it is considered acceptable.

I'm also not saying they should tear down or remove their existing cultural legacy but that it is fascinating in how we never seem to acknowledge it.

I was trying to promote thinking and discussion on long held segregation that is rarely considered. What it instead seems to be turning into is sweeping dismissal of it. White people moving out of Chinatown because it's run down, and yet it's a tourist attraction because it's so ethnically different and always has been is a contradiction in terms. Even if it is true. The culture within is so different to the culture outside it that we have tourists gawking at it.

Doesn't that strike you at all as unusual that we have people visiting another part of their country (or even own city) just to see what they think of as life in another country itself?

It isn't lost on me the near total condemnation of this attempt to takeover a town in North Dakota, no matter how small and in the middle of nowhere by everyone. That should be seen as a good thing.

What occured to me however is that we've had this in reverse for decades without question and it never comes up. Rarely outside of usually comedians do you hear someone discuss that we've got isolated mini-countries inside our own.

I think the Little Italy and Chinatown concepts were originally a unification of immigrants who were "fresh of the boat".

These immigrants came together and formed communities in desperation for a taste of home and a for a community of people who spoke the same language.

The theme was nation based, not skin color based.

This Little Nazi Germany is different. This in an effort from Americans who are not creating a community for taste of a long lost home or speaking a native language (most probably haven't been to Europe much if at all). It's just an effort to create a community with only white skin.

Yeah, those are cultural ghettos. Though, ironically, they in turn had their own racist policies. In fact, the Irish Americans were some of the most fiercely anti-black people in the country, outside of the South. Just look at the Boston busing crisis in the 70's.

Actually, Chinatown were fairly inclusive by comparison.

The plans for a neo-Nazi paradise in Leith, North Dakota, are running into a few speedbumps, it seems. As we noted a while back, white supremacist Craig Paul Cobb has been buying up a passel of abandoned properties in the town of 19, hoping to get enough like-minded bigots to move in and take it over. The existing residents are not one bit happy about it. Nor are other North Dakotans, including the Lakota and Dakota grandmothers pictured above, who according to the Last Real Indians blog “captured and burned” a Nazi flag from the town while a group of several hundred Native Americans and others protested the neo-Nazi presence in Leith last Saturday. We advise the White Power Rangers to recognize when they’re beaten, and to not piss off the grannies any futher.
Leith is near the Standing Rock Indian Nation. Dakota protester Phyllis Young gave the neo-Nazis a good rhetorical wag of the finger:

In addition to the opposition of locals and the wider North Dakota community, Cobb and other new property-owners in Leith have another serious issue: Poop.
The Bismarck Tribune reports:

An order giving white supremacist Craig Cobb five days to come up with a plan for installing running water and a sewer outlet into his home in Leith expired Monday and it’s possible the house could be declared uninhabitable.The order was written by the Custer District Health Unit’s environmental health practitioner Aaron Johnson, who said Cobb owns two other structures in town that possibly will be removed next month.

Cobb is believed to be using an outhouse on the property, and has said that he buys bottled water for drinking and washing. Depending on advice from the Health Unit’s attorney, the unit could issue an order declaring the house uninhabitable or take Cobb to court. The other properties purchased by the neo-Nazis are in similarly sad shape; one was in the process of being condemned even as Cobb sought to sell it to a supporter.Let’s have a round of applause for zoning and sanitation laws, part of a functioning civil society. Oh, also, we strongly condemn the theft and destruction of private property like Nazi flags. Theft is wrong, and not even wonderful angry grannies should do that, even when it’s awesome (yes they should).
