Who agrees that casting shouldn't affect someone's judgement on a manip?

Recently, I've noticed that some people's manips seem to be criticised purely based on the choice of actors/actresses used.

Personally, I don't mind whoever is cast. As long as the manip is good, then I don't see why it should matter.

Now I'm not an artist, but I can see how much effort people like La She Beast, Flavio, Punk_joey, Angamb, Neto, Nadino, MaleRogue, batboy, Mothling, BB, Mierde, Le Diable Blanc, GothicFLAVORS, Majik, butt_salad and everybody else that contributes to these Manips Competitions put into EACH and EVERY one of their manips.

I just don't think it's right that people's judgement on someone's manip or who they vote for should be influenced by the choice of actor used. Sure, if you despise a particular actor, I'm sure it's harder to like a manip based on them. But try to be considerate and courteous to whoever posts these entries.

This is meant to be a fun thing for everybody, and to share our talents. If we can't do it without people poking fun out of somebody's choice for a Gambit or because they didn't pick Uma Thurman for Emma, then perhaps we shouldn't have one at all.

Thought I should just say that, as I wouldn't want an art piece I had been working on for weeks be criticised like that.

I do. Like you said if the manip's good, that's all that matters to me. Same if someone does a crappy manip with someone I like, I'm still going to think the manip's crappy.

Exactly. We shouldn't be judging these manips if they have the "wrong" casting, we should be grateful that that member went through all the effort so we could have a manips competition.

Lol funny you'd say that because the very first comment I got about my very first manip was from someone who said 'I don't like the actress you used'. But heh whatever.

^So unfair, but that's what I'm afraid will happen. If a manip is bad, sure give a comment, perhaps offer some advice. Don't slag it off because Jared Leto isn't Gambit or whatever.

I totally agree with you on this one TKing, you have brought up a good point. Many times awesome art is shot down with comments about casting, now if it's a casting manip thread - then I can understand.

Now, although I think Uma as Emma would be horrible - she does not even come close to my vision of Emma - doesn't mean I dislike every manip made with her. There are plenty of Uma/Emma manips that I really like - based soley on skill and effort.

I think we should appreciate the work and effort that goes into these manips! Make a Casting Manip Thread if it bugs you that much!!

That's just it, it really doesn't matter. Even if we've see the actress/actor hundreds of times, if the manips are creative and original, it doesn't really matter.

i must admit,im one of those suckers whos into castings,its one of the things i like in manips but if its really good i dont care,take diables manip,im not a fan of jolie as psylocke but his manip is really good so im debating between his and a few other peoples right now
i dont care if people dont like my castings and/or manips,its not stopping me from contributing

Of course. A good manip to me is realistic, creative, original and not rushed. Not because they include the hottest celebrity someone could think of.

hey,as i said im a sucker for castings,im not afraid to say im not too sure about the casting,but that doesnt mean i dont like the overall manip,heck i have diables manips saved on my harddrive!its an awesome manip im just not too sure about the casting but apart from that one small thing,to me its one of the best manips on the boards!

Nah really don't worry about it batboy. I'm almost done with my second manip and I'm sure nobody will say complain about the casting choice. Or maybe they'll see he's overused too lol, we'll see.

see im not for halloway for gambit but ive seen manips with him that i love more than theones with my casting choices,i had a few halloway manips saved until my computer crashed

There are a lot works, not only for the manips thread but for the competition that I dislike the casting. But they are put together very nicely, its going to be a hard vote - but I can assure you - CASTING will NOT be basis for my vote.

I'm with you on that Nadino. The main criteria that matter to me are general look, editing, creativity and realism.
