The Fantastic Four were officially announced in January 2025 ahead of that movie coming out (July 2025). Daredevil was also added about 6 months ahead of Born Again Season 2 (March 2026).

Timing-wise this should point to a Q1 2026 CY release for Marvel Rivals Black Cat in the lead up to Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

:blackcat: Interesting and unusual proximity between the Department of Damage Control signs and the Wanted sign for Black Cat. Have we perhaps seen such a possible association before? :-)

Recent comics news:

There's been numerous crossovers with the Black Cat character in Marvel comics this year. The latest (November 12) is Fantastic Four #5, where Felicia Hardy uses a fake disguise name (Marcini) at a bank and gets framed, arrested, and jailed for a murder there at the bank. Sue Storm posts bail and together they solve the case and bring the true culprit down.

The cover of December’s Black Cat #5 also teases Black Cat being arrested again, like the Wanted sign for Black Cat in Marvel Rivals.

Q: Sadie, which is harder to keep secret? What happens to Max [in Stranger Things] this season or your role in Spider-Man[: Brand New Day]?
Sadie Sink: <sly smile> Umm...
Gaten: Yeah! Talk about your role in Spider-Man!
Finn: It's like that...
Sadie Sink: <sly smile> Both are very hard. But I think what happens to Max might be the hardest... <shocked face>

I think she might be playing Mary Jane Watson.

Not only would she remind Peter of MCU MJ because of her initials but there might be a subtle hint that Peter is subconciously trying to replace MCU MJ with a new MJ. Then when "his" MJ returns on the scene, there is a conflict of emotions over his feelings for the original MJ and the new MJ. Maybe he faces a Sophie's Choice decision between the two. Have Sadie Sink's MJ be a really lovely character so that the audience themselves are split over who he should save. Zendaya's MJ would be th kneejerk reaction because she's the original MJ and Peter's first love, but Sadie Sink's character would be an innocent who has done nothing wrong and doesn't deserve to die.

I can see her character being a mix of MJ personality and someone else. I think that’s what they might be leading towards, but not outright MJW

Apparently Sadie is gonna be in Secret Wars. Guess Mayday isn't a completely crazy idea lol.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to open on July 31. There has been much speculation about the role Sink has in the Spidey film, and frankly, I do not know the answer, but I do know that she’ll join the cast of the next Avengers picture that shoots here in London later in 2026.

Having a "MJ" and then an actually introducing Mary Jane Watson in the 4th Spider-Man film, don't make sense to me.

My money is on Annie Parker.

Some of Tom Holland Spider-Man’s supporting cast has been in the Avengers movies in the past in brief parts.

Synergywise, Marvel has associated Black Cat with the Avengers in the new animated TV show recently as well as earlier in this year's comics.

Hawkeye tried to get another selfie with Marvel Studios President and Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Kevin Feige but Kevin refuses and says he's fine while carrying a black cat. This is after Meryet Karim tells Hawkeye that cute cat content has overtaken superhero action as what the people want.

IIRC Black Cat was Spider-Man's girlfriend during the time of the original 1985 run of the Secret Wars comics.

10. Black Cat Discovers Her Powers (Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #90). Felicia Hardy is a fun character I enjoyed writing quite a bit. Here, her primary developer, writer/artist Al Milgrom, takes her on a romp through New York trying to find where sometimes-boyfriend Spider-Man’s disappeared to. All the while, she’s debating whether or not to tell him she got “bad luck” super powers from the Kingpin’s crack scientific team. (I wonder if John Gotti would have lasted longer if he had an R&D division.)

This is one of the better Secret Wars tie-ins. One of the places Black Cat breaks into looking for clues is Avengers Mansion. She’s promptly captured by the building’s defenses, but rather than turn her over to the cops, Vision and the Scarlet Witch offer her membership, seeing how most of the other heroes have disappeared. The regular Assemblers return before the ranks have to be expanded to include backbenchers like Felicia, but her on the team is an interesting idea you’d hope other creators would explore more.

During the 1994 animated series...

Later, Spider-Man used the Beyonder's teleportation machine to bring her to an alien planet during the Secret Wars. She joined the Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Curt Connors in his Lizard's form, the X-Man Storm, and even Captain America. She and Cap shared a brief moment because of the relationship between their origins. She helped against the Red Skull and Doctor Octopus. She was later returned to Earth with no memory of what had happened after a fight with Doctor Doom.

It’s safe to say Sadie is not playing the evil mastermind in Brand New Day or a one-and-done role, not that I was expecting either. By the amount of time she's spent on-and-off from the beginning of Brand New Day's production, she appears to be the female co-lead of the movie, also not unexpected.

[Sadie Sink is] presently shooting Spider-Man: Brand New Day until the middle of December, but the theater is her home; it’s a place she seeks out.

If Sadie is in Avenger Secret Wars, than I certainly doubt she's playing
a shape shifting villain
nor
Punisher's right hand
, in Spiderman : Brand New Day.

I think, she's playing a heroic character ,whose gonna be around in future films, as opposed to just a couple appearances.

Who that character is , is anyone's guess .

She's been working out (being vegan probably helps) and the recent large bruise and cut across her right arm could happen to a close range, physical fighter type of character. (See also: July 2025)

one of the more wild theories I've heard was her playing the Abyss as a human personification of the Multiverse itself...

seemed like reach at the time, but with news of her character inclusion in Secret Wars, maybe they were onto something

I’m clinging onto the hope that she’s playing Tobey’s daughter Mayday and that she’s gonna be in BwD as a Phil Coulson type character with an expanded role in Av5

Me personally, I would rather she just be someone more mundane and less fan service. Black Cat, Firestar, etc. Making her Mayday just adds a mulitversal layer this movie doesn't need.

“I have been actively sifting through the internet and trying to best understand what it is that the fans want from a Spider-Man movie, and that's been my driving force in these pitch meetings.

“I think the producers, at times were like, absolutely sick of me, but I think it's really important, because we make these movies for [the fans].”
I read that you were doing some research ahead of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to find out what fans wanted in a fourth Spider-Man film. But I’d love to know what you’re personally hoping to see from another go as Spidey?

For me, I want to do justice to Peter Parker's character. I want to bring the fans something that's really worthy of their time, and I’m very grateful for their investment in our franchise. I don't mean financially, I mean the time to go to the cinema three times. That's a big ask.

I did a lot of sneaky research online—looking at what people were saying in the interim between Spider-Man: No Way Home and now Spider-Man: Brand New Day. I really just kind of put together a vibe of what people were looking for and went to Marvel and said, “This is what I think we should be doing.” And I think that's exactly what we are doing. So, it's been a really fun process developing the movie. It's the first time I've ever been allowed in that part of the process, and it's definitely a stressful experience. But I think where we've got to, now that we're shooting, we are shooting absolute gold.
Does it feel validating to be in that room, and help shape the film?

I think so. I have such a good understanding of who Peter Parker is, and I have been so lucky that the fan base has been so vocal about what they love from the franchise. We've been able to really lean into those things and capitalize on those things. So, I love standing up for the character, being in the room, and making sure that the decisions we make are what's best for Peter Parker because he really does feel like one of my best friends. It's a really weird experience diving into the character again. It just feels like you're hanging out with an old pal.

Kevin Feige:
  • Tom Holland as a 'proper' Spider-Man on his own for the first time
  • Spider-Man as a street-level crime fighter rather than world saver
  • Spider-Man will interact with previously unused street-level characters such as The Punisher

Pulse of the internet / straw polling (Tom Holland would have seen all this research long before casting began and the name of the movie was publicly revealed):

Q: What did the fans say they wanted from MCU Spider-Man 4?
Google Gemini:
Key Fan Desires for Spider-Man 4

A Grounded, "Street-Level" Story:

This was arguably the biggest request. After the multiverse-spanning cosmic events of the last two films, fans wanted to see Peter Parker operating as the classic, Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man fighting local crime in New York City.

The end of No Way Home—where Peter is truly alone and forgotten—set up the perfect scenario for a back-to-basics narrative.

Team-up with Daredevil/Conflict with Kingpin:

Due to the MCU re-introducing Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, many fans wanted to see Peter team up with Matt Murdock.

This would ground the story further in the street-level crime fighting and pit Spider-Man against the "Kingpin of Crime," possibly adapting the popular comic storyline "Devil's Reign," where Kingpin becomes Mayor and outlaws vigilantes.
New Love Interest: Black Cat:

With MJ (Zendaya) and Ned (Jacob Batalon) no longer remembering Peter Parker, fans strongly advocated for the introduction of Peter's classic romantic interest and anti-hero, Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. Black Cat.

This would introduce a new dynamic to Peter's life and could serve as a love interest who understands and is excited by his double life, contrasting with his relationship with MJ.
Peter's Classic Comic Book Life:

A significant desire was to see Peter Parker finally live the life most associated with the comics:

College Life: Attending university (perhaps Empire State University) and making new, original friends.

Working at the Daily Bugle: Getting a job as a photographer for J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons), who continues to run an anti-Spider-Man smear campaign.

Introduction of New Villains:

Fans wanted to see Spider-Man face villains that haven't been central to the MCU films:

Scorpion (Mac Gargan): Set up in the Homecoming post-credits scene, fans want him to finally get his suit.

Mister Negative or Tombstone to solidify the gritty street-level environment.

Some fans also wanted the story to set up the Hobgoblin (possibly a transformed Ned Leeds, though this is less popular than a full street-level story).

While there was some speculation about a major Symbiote/Venom storyline or another Multiverse/Secret Wars setup, the overwhelming consensus was a desire to move away from those large-scale events and focus on Peter's personal development as an established, solo hero in a "Brand New Day."

I think the meat and potatoes of BND will be street level. The reveal of her being from another universe will come at the very end. Possibly the post credit scene.

They need a reason to get Holland's Spidey into Secret Wars after all.
No they don't. The reason is going to be Doom makes Battleworld. Then POOF! They're all there!

There's no hurry to rush that character or put it into a Sony Spider-Man movie. Jean Grey's last appearance was in the #1 box office bomb of 2019 from 6 years ago. I believe the Sony agreement with Marvel was for big Avengers characters so that's why we get at least one of those each time. Also Famke Janssen seems more likely though she has been saying word salads in public to convince people she's not in any of the new Avengers movies with the rest of the X-Men cast.

I bet you a slice of pizza (any topping you want) that Sink is Jean Grey, Disney and Sony finding some contrived way to put her in.

Watch. :sneeze:
Highly doubt it. She isn't a Spider-Man related character or has any history with him and they still have to reboot X-Men in a post Secret Wars MCU, and doing Jean now just shoehorn whatever mutant stuff they do with her into the new universe. I am betting all the core X-Men cast come in post Secret Wars
