Who is your favorite US President?

Maybe it's because I'm a millennial but Clinton all the way. Dude been pimpin since been pimpin since been pimpin

There were also missiles in Italy, which were also withdrawn (as part of the deal with Khrushchev). For some reason, the history books don't seem to give them as much focus.

Now in fairness to Kennedy, that was part of a longstanding NATO agreement. He did sign off on it, but it wasn't his idea.

That said... he's as much to blame for the crisis, as he is in resolving it, so... yeah.

For me, Eisenhower. Not only was he a war hero, but he was an especially strong ally of Canada during the post-war years, helping push the world to recognize Canada as a separate major Western power apart from the British Empire. Admittedly he did so for strategic reasons, but the outcome was in our favour nonetheless.

I Like Ike!

I'm a TR fan, and even a Nixon fan.

Taft was no Teddy, but he did do some trust busting.
As president, Taft was especially noted for vigorous enforcement of anti-trust legislation. (Although Roosevelt had earned a reputation of "trust buster," in fact Taft was much more aggressive in launching suits against business consolidations.) With the Taft administration pushing the suit, for instance, the Supreme Court ordered the break up of the John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company, which dominated the nation's oil refining industry, into seven firms. This landmark decision ended a period of uncertainty in anti trust decisions, for the court applied the "rule of reason" to Standard Oil. This standard meant that if the court found that a company had grown large through unreasonable and unfair practices, it would be broken up.

Clinton, I think, was more lucky than good. We were at peace and the economy was a monster. He didnt have to deal with the Cold War or the War on Terror, so he kind of coasted. Then everything went to Hell and we had Dubya in charge.

I actually don't have a favorite president. I just think the Taft song is funny :hehe:

Theodore Roosevelt.

The man was something else. He was a conservationist, before their was such a thing. He was a man's man. An athlete and an outdoorsman. Intelligent. Loved to read a book every night sometimes multiple books a night. Absorbed facts and knowledge like a sponge. Said to be a good conversationalist. And wasnt afraid to throw down. Despite this tho he was a gentleman. He was loved by the people and by both sides of the aisle, and those who didnt count him as a friend still praised him. There hasnt been a president like him since and I doubt there ever will be again. He was a rare product of his time and place.

Teddy Roosevelt, because he got s*** done.

Ironically some of the least popular presidents got the most **** done. LBJ, Nixon... Polk. I'd argue that Nixon did more to end the Cold War than Reagan.

Oh, but you know how we Americans are when it comes to that stuff. We only like the popular and/or charismatic presidents. Damn the policies.

:o

A historian the average American is not.

Be interesting to see how these polls did in various decades in the 1800's and early 1900's. I think Abraham Lincoln would be somewhat low, since half the country hated his guts.

Considering he's on the fifty dollar bill, you'd think Grant would be higher up. Again, I think it's contemporary bias.

I'm sure if you took this poll in 1914, that the list would look radically different (besides the obvious omission of post-1914 presidents).

There'd be people on that list no one today would name. Like... well, probably not Harding. But Taft.

Teddy Roosevelt is my all-time favorite because of all the things he did. Second favorite would be Lincoln.
