Why is Angelina Jolie the only action woman in show business?

It sort of all depends on Wonderwoman now. If they make a movie that is amazing, it'll open a gateway to Female leads in an action movie. If they make a movie that bombs, they might blame it on the fact it had a female action lead and think that just doesn't work.

It's pretty sad to depend on Wonder Woman to create more female action films. Why, this summer, have so many other action films done so poorly with their male leads?

The sad thing is, even if a new Buffy movie was greenlighted and Sarah Michelle Gellar agreed to reprise her role -- it wouldn't even make as much money as a Jolie role (SMG used to be a hot property, but Jolie is more marketable). Lucy Lawless may have been able to do it if they made a Xena movie during the show's peak in the 1990s, but now... not possible. (Unless you do a movie reboot with Angelina Jolie as Xena, Amanda Seyfried as Gabrielle and Karl Urban as Ares.)

I realize those examples were from TV and not film. My point was that many men, myself included, do not find women who kick ass less feminine. I prefer women who kick ass. I find the damsels in distress boring as hell. I prefer Kiera Knightly's Guenevere from King Arthur over the Lady Guenevere from First Knight or Excaliber and day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Like I said before, Gabrielle was boring and annoying on Season One of Xena. She didn't get interesting until after she became an amazon and learned how to fight. The better at fighting she became, the more interesting (and sexy) she became.
