“Woo.” To Hollywood’s long line of buddy-cop duos we can now add Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. The pair will team up for The B Team, an action-comedy from director and uber-reliable Ferrell collaborator Adam McKay (Anchorman, Step Brothers). “Woo.” No other plot-points were given, but according to the trades, a *****in’ bidding battle went down on Tuesday. The script is by Chris Henchy, who wrote Ferrell’s Land of the Lost reboot and co-produces HBO’s Entourage with Wahlberg and East Bound & Down for Gary Sanchez Prod.

So, what do you guys think? Under McKay’s eye, the project won’t make for smelly summer tripe a la Bulletproof or I-Spy, and if an R-rating is in the cards, that would equal amazing in blood spray. Though, I doubt that’s the case, judging by a title that spoofs a Mr. T show and upcoming remake. Ferrell remains attached to star in a Sherlock Holmes comedy alongside Sacha Baron Cohen and produced by Judd Apatow, and is still making a mint on Broadway (and Conan’s final show) as some Texan guy.

I like both actors so hopefully this will be fun.

I wonder how closely this will be released next to Joe Carnahan's A-Team[ remake...

Eehhh..... No.

McKay and Ferrell have been pretty good together. I don't care what anyone says, Step Brothers was a modern classic. "I've traveled 500 miles to give you my seed!"

So yeah, interested in this.

Yes! Loved Anchorman and Step Borthers. Looking forward to seeing Marky Mark in a comedy role.

Sony Pictures Activates The B Team
Source: Variety
February 26, 2009

Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired B Team, an Adam McKay-directed action comedy that will team Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg as cops, with Chris Henchy and McKay writing the script.

The movie will be a co-production between Gary Sanchez Productions and Mosaic. Sony has not set a release date on the film, but it is expected to go into production as quickly as the filmmakers can get it ready, reports Variety.

The comedy was pitched around town on Tuesday by Endeavor and CAA, and Sony co-president Matt Tolmach moved quickly. The trade says that Tolmach was comfortable committing to a film without a finished script, because Columbia worked in exactly the same fashion on "Talladega Nights" and Step Brothers, both of which were set up with a pitch and the collaborative track record of McKay and Ferrell.

Sony intends to register the title The B Team, a challenge considering that 20th Century Fox is mobilizing a movie based on the TV series "The A Team," with Joe Carnahan directing.

I'll watch anything that McKay and Ferrell collaborate on.

I knew they'd have to change the title with an actual A-Team movie in production.

Principal photography started today on Columbia Pictures' action-comedy The Other Guys, starring Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. The film is directed by Adam McKay and written by Adam McKay & Chris Henchy. The film is a co-production between Gary Sanchez Productions and Mosaic. Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, Jimmy Miller, and Patrick Crowley produce. David Householter, Chris Henchy and Kevin Messick are the Executive Producers. Jessica Elbaum and Josh Church serve as Co-Producers.

Set in New York City, The Other Guys follows Detective Allen Gamble (Ferrell), a forensic accountant who's more interested in paperwork than hitting the streets, and Detective Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg), who has been stuck with Allen as his partner ever since an embarrassing public incident with his quick trigger finger. Allen and Terry idolize the city's top cops, Danson and Manzetti (Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson), but when an opportunity arises for the Other Guys to step up, things don't quite go as planned.

McKay said, "Though Will and I no longer speak, I still love making movies with him. Will it be tense on set? Absolutely. But fortunately Mark Wahlberg and I have formed a friendship based on our mutual problems with Will. So that's good."

The cast includes Eva Mendes as Sheila, Allen's incredibly plain wife; Michael Keaton as Captain Mauch; and Steve Coogan as billionaire investment banker David Ershon. Ray Stevenson, Rob Riggle, Damon Wayans, Jr. and Lindsay Sloane round out the supporting cast.

Sir Oliver Wood serves as the film's Director of Photography, with Clayton Hartley acting as the Production Designer. The film is edited by Brent White. Costume Designer is Carol Ramsey.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought it was a spoof of The A-Team. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a spoof of The A-Team called The B-Team. I'd just wait at least a year after the A-Team movie comes out.

The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson sounds like an awesome buddy cop movie on it's own!

Micheal Keaton has to play the stereotypical African American Lieutenant RDJ Tropic Thunder style!

I know, right?!? I bet you whatever hair and wardrobe they do for her just makes her look even hotter, and farther away from plain!

I just now realized that Dwayne Johnson is a "starring in a movie opposite Paul Rudd" away from having done films with the four main male leads from Anchorman. He did Get Smart with Champ Kind (David Koechner) and Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) and now he's in a movie with Will Ferrell, directed by Adam McKay.

I wonder if Rob Riggle plays a *****ebag in this movie like he's been playing in every other movie?
