I honestly think that because "sincerely identifying as a gender" is too easily exploitable by true degenerates changing room use should be dictated by your physical sex and not your mental sex unless you are post op.

There should be limits to political correctness.

Honestly how comfortable would you be with this "woman" changing in front of your barely pubescent daughter?

Here is a angry opinion piece someone wrote. http://www.theblaze.com/contributio...u-care-about-the-safety-and-privacy-of-women/

My brain tells me that someone with those sort of intentions probably wouldn't have the surgery and all.

Well that's why I say let's at least have that bar set. I know not all genuine trans people can afford surgery and I'm sorry if this inconveniences them but I rather that then to open the flood gates of sexual predators who'll shamelessly slap a wig and makeup on to exploit this and go spy on our wives, girlfriends, sisters, daughters and moms!

This happend at a Planet Fitness. I was just there tonight.
I am not sure if it is connected, but for some reason the phone kept ringing, over and over tonight. Then when it stopped.. it just rang and rang again. I was trying to work out and it was really bugging me. Three people were at the front desk and no one answered any of the calls. This has never happened before, so I am wondering if this story had anything to do with people keep calling my Planet fitness.

How about this: no. To everything in this post.

A) She's a woman, no quotes about it.
B) Yes, punish her and others who are transgender for the actions of people who are not transgender. Great plan. :whatever:
C) The gym is reported to have changing stalls. You're not just all standing in a room together changing.
D) Not everyone has the money for operations like that.
E) If the woman didn't like it, she should go somewhere else. It was in the contract she signed when she signed up.

The planet fitness I go to has changing stalls but the old people for some reason never like to utilize them. Not all the time, but on occasion I run into people that just strip down to the nude and take their good ol' time getting changed. And of course their locker has to right next to mine. Oh the humanity! :woot::cmad:

Well maybe we need two new sets of changing rooms.

Because stalls or not and despite 95% of trans people who go there being genuine there is still the outliers who'll exploit this.

Because only sexual predators are into women? This ''gal'' didn't do anything wrong.

No.
But the type of lowlife who would fake being trans most likely is and you're deluded if you think this is some bogeyman I'm making up to justify transphobia.

I didn't say the trans women did anything wrong but despite the expulsed woman's lack of tack I feel there is credibility in her concerns.

Be concerned, man.

I knew I'd be mocked for making this thread and I've no doubt many members thought of making it before me but didn't and won't comment here because of fear of saying the wrong thing.

Honestly I'd say it's up to the club. If people feel uncomfortable with it then as paying customers they have the right to complain and the company has to make a choice. No matter the choice people will get pissy about it.

Or, you know, locking changing stalls...like they already have.

I'm willing to bet that percentage is higher than you're giving it. Can you provide links that this is a common enough thing that we have to cause even more problems for people who are transgender? On top of that, do you not see the issue here with punishing people who are transgender for the actions of people who are cisgender?

It's important to note, for those who don't read the article and just the thread, that this woman did not have her membership revoked solely for discomfort, it was because she spent the next week complaining about the woman to others and trying to get them to side with her and those women went and complained about this member and her actions.

And maybe the stalls should reach to the ceiling and floor to eliminate the possibility of anyone peeking, regardless of their gender or orientation.

Ehhhh. One of those touchy subjects. I am all for a person having the right to be transgender if it makes them happy. ...but at the same time when it comes to this locker room and bathroom stuff there really isn't a perfect solution because I can understand someone having discomfort about it as well.

A sadistic sexual predator who comes up with the idea of dressing up as a woman is going to do it anyway, regardless of trans rights. That is a sick, sick red herring, just like fear of pedophilia was used as a way of keeping gays out of many professions and even public life for too many years. Transgender is a thing; get over it.

This is the first decision Planet Fitness has made that I agree with.

Honestly, I think the best solution is to do what they do for the changing rooms of various swimming pools here. They will either have a unisex changing room with stalls (which I think they call a changing village), or if it is a bigger location, then at one end there is the women's changing room, at the other end the men's, but in between the unisex area.

That means that it's entirely possible for a woman to be in a stall next to a man, or even for women to be in a shower next door to a man. The hair drying area is communally shared, so man or woman, you're just standing next to each other at the mirror. And there are family changing rooms too, so you won't get strangers coming in there who are not part of your family.

That way no-one gets offended, and no-one feels that they are being watched by others who could be trying to take advantage of the situation. It seems to work over here, so why not? But this seems set up just for swimming pools. I haven't seen gyms using this system.

I'd like to see your evidence for this. Do you have a source for any specific stories where a man dressed up as a woman to gain access to the women's change room?

What I'm saying is that the few (if at all) times this has happened does not justify alienating an entire group of people.

Also, what Pink Ranger said is spot on.

I think this is a sensible arrangement.

I read the related ABC News report and according to it, the staff to whom the ex-gym member complained said other complaints were made about the transgender woman and she was told to change in the stall. No mention of any complaints of impropriety, so it sounds like the management is apprised and on top of the situation. And, ultimately, it's a business decision, a progressive and informed one at that. People are free to park their membership elsewhere if they don't agree with the policy.

I'd be concerned if my girlfriend or female relation is in a gym such as this, I wouldn't lie. I'd definitely speak to the management for some personal peace of mind. Although if I had a young daughter/niece, I'd ensure she's never left unaccompanied there.

We have the same arrangement here. Big changing rooms aren't that common anymore. People just change in separate stalls.

Lol, that might not work. My company gym has separate stalls, between each personal shower and the communal locker area, but for some reason I'm the only guy who actually uses them. :( Everybody else comes straight out of the shower, whips off the towel and just lets the whole butcher-shop-at-closing-time-right-before-Christmas hang out there. I'm like two weeks away from becoming completely straight now.
