Worst Performances By Good Actors

Ugh, yeah, The Wicker Man is terrible. Cage has made so many bad choices in movies over the past 10 years. Hopefully that Bad Lieutenant movie is better.

Kevin Costner as Robin Hood.
Bridget Fonda. I never liked this actress & I thought she was horrible in everything.

I would say that some parts of Christian Bale's performance in Terminator Salvation weren't very good and I think that has more to do with the script and McG's direction. Christian Bale is a fantastic actor and one of the best of this generation. As for his voice in The Dark Knight, Nolan himself said that its been tampered with in post production making it more growly.

I'm sure a lot of people will disagree with me, but I'd have to say Cate Blanchett in I'm Not There. I know she was nominated for an Oscar, but I couldn't help but feel like her performance was Dylan imitation that was better suited to an SNL sketch. Same with Christian Bale and that other annoying guy who played the Dylan who was being interrogated.

oh my god im gonna hurt you!

Sorry guys, but I thought he was as terrible as everyone else. The part was written poorly, IMO, and the over-the-top "evil" voice they gave him were probably the true culprits, but I don't think that his performance helped the matter.
Do you know what G.I. Joe is? Im sure they werent going for extremaly serious war movie. Its based off a damn toy line and 80's cartoon series....

Robert Duvall in The Scarlet Letter (1995), but his part isn't written very well IMO.

Elijah Wood in Ash Wednesday and Green Street Hooligans, I think it's mostly miscasting and Elijah just trying to make it work in roles he's not "edgy" enough for.

Kristen Stewart in New Moon, thought she was better in the first Twilight actually

Anthony Hopkins and Mickey Rourke in Desperate Hours

Oh i like this thread. :hehe:

Robert De Niro. Seriously how do you go from Godfather , Raging Bull to
*ahem*

Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle , Showtime , the analyze this/that movies , Meet The Parents /Meet The Fockers & Righteous Kill
and to a lesser extent even Stardust.

The only "recent"movie where he acted good was The Good Sheperd.

EH i have to disagree with you. I think DeNiro purposely went for more comedic roles. I thought he was great in analyze this/that, Meet the Parents/fockers and i thought righteous kill had to much hype since it was DeNiro/Pacino getting onscreen again. But I did enjoy the movie but it could have been better.
Rocky and Bullwinkle, hmm well i wasn't a big fan but since DeNiro did produce it he played the role HE wanted to so ill say i'm more of a a hater of his particular vision on Fearless leader than his acting

Patrick Stewart in A Christmas Carol. Sweet jesus, was that a hammy, over the top performance.

So it had to be bad? In the hands of a capable director, a movie can be over-the-top and silly and still be good. G.I. Joe was just horrid crap. It probably wasn't JGL's fault; but I can't give an actor a pass just because the movie was bad. If it's okay to fault Ewan MacGregor and Natalie Portman for their performances in the Star Wars movies, I don't see why JGL shouldn't get the same treatment.

And that's a shame because I really like the guy as an actor and he turned in one of the best performances of the year in 500 Days of Summer. Perhaps when he signed on to G.I. Joke he didn't know how bad it was going to turn out, but the name Stephen Sommers should have clued him in.

Paul Giamatti in Big Fat Liar and Lady in the Water. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned his name.

Another one is William H. Macy in Wild Hogs

Paul Giamatti in Big Fat Liar and Lady in the Water. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned his name.

I absolutely hated Lady in the Water, but I thought Giamatti did a good job in the film. He made me sympathize with his character, especially during the "healing" scene.

How can people consider Nic Cage a good actor?
I liked him in his trilogy of action movies, The Rock, Con-Air and the underrated Face/Off, hell I was even excited to see him as Superman. :woot:

But then he started doing junk like Snake Eyes, Gone In Sixty Seconds, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, National Treasure, Ghost Rider that I was getting tired of the same voice he uses in every movie.

Didn't read through this thread to see if those one has been said, but...

Nicolas Cage in "The Wicker Man"

Check this HILARIOUS montage out:

Christian Bale's performance in Terminator Salvation was pretty bad. He's usually great, but here he hammed it up badly.

There are just parts in Terminator where Bale is awful but then there are some parts where he is really good. I think it's definitely McG's direction.

Willem Dafoe in the Boondock Saints

wot?

But since we're on Dafoe, I'd say Willem Dafoe in "Speed 2: Cruise Control" is more like it. I don't know if he could've managed to be less menacing if he tried.

His smile alone is enough to scare the crap out of you. :woot:

Robert Deniro is one of the greatest actor of all time and was at one time my favorite actor so It's dissapointing to see him not getting that same regard but he is trying to do something different . He was funny in the Analyze and Meet the Parent movies but he has chosen a couple stinkers here and there recently . Righteous kill was not his fault because that script was lame and i dont think anyone could have saved that movie.
I did enjoy Deniro in What Just Happened but I never saw Sawdust and I dont think I ever will.
He is in talks to work with Martin Scorsese and he has another movie coming out with Edward Norton called Stone that sounds good.
