Would you be okay with Sam Wilson keeping the Captain America mantel?

*Note: I'm going to keep the Thor VS Thor with boobs discussion out of this because it seems like eventually, male Thor will be worthy again, and they can just flip flop the hammer and axe back and forth (which they could do if they were both worthy simultaneously).

The main topic of discussion here is, as it states in the title, would you be okay with Sam Wilson (a.k.a. Falcon) keeping the mantel of Captain America, even if Steve Rogers got his serum power back?
And I'm not speaking as if Steve gets his power back, asks Sam for his shield back, and Sam tells him no (which I completely doubt would happen at all, but I needed a secondary example).
I'm speaking as if Sam offers the mantel back to Steve, and Steve says, "You know what Sam?... It's your time now. The shield is yours, the stars and stripes are yours, and the safety of the American Dream is now in your winged hands. Do America proud, until you feel the time is right to pass on the legacy to whomever you see fit." (Which would leave Steve to either attempt living a normal life, or assume a new superhero mantel, like when Hank Pym gave up the Ant-Man mantel, and became Yellow Jacket.)

I was going to include a poll, but decided not to, because I want an actual discussion to take place here.

I personally don't care as besides the movies I haven't been a fan of Cap for years. As it is we know he'll get it and, status quo and all. At best he might keep it for a little while after but he'll be back to his old ways as soon as Cap comes back to normal.

Don't we already have a thread about this.....?

Do we really need another?

I wouldn't necessarily mind it, but it's never going to happen. They couldn't keep the man dead, so I don't imagine Steve's going to stay "old" too terribly long.

No.

That's a fun little gimmick but at the end of the day Steve Roger's origin and history is essential to the character.

Absolutely. Same reason I would have lived to have seen Dick Grayson remain as Batman permanently. I would love to see these iconic heroes replaced by legacies, it creates a real sense of forward momentum and these characters having a place in the histories of their world.

Never gonna happen, though.

If this were a permanent transition? Yes, I would be perfectly okay with Sam being Captain America and Steve staying to the side. My only problems with this are simply the fact that this gimmick has been done before in very recent memory and it's blatantly obvious that Steve will come back within a year or two.

The way you guys can just dispose of characters is beyond me.

dispose of? how so?
personally, I want Cap and Falcon back, that's not disposing, that's conserving and s***...

I can be up for legacies, but this just seems abrupt and out of place
The Bucky-Cap story felt like a much more natural progression.
Hell, if Sam was Cap THEN, I would've liked it more

it's just this whole "Cap loses his powers and turns super-old" thing that I don't like or buy into
s'all about the writing, and while I like Remender, his Cap run sucks

the only certainty in life is change!life is change and change is good! but people HATE CHANGE!!(and as i have seen some of the worst are comic guys!)theres this weird paradox i hear " i am tried of reading the same old stories!.. but then you change the story and its FREAKING DEATH THREATS!"
yeah. i would be cool with this. it makes sense! just like Dick becoming Batman but now while Dick has grown older bats has stayed the same. they are roughly the same age
!Characters should grow old and pass the mantle but that %^& WILL NEVER HAPPEN!
I know this was asked from a purely hypothetical standpoint but really this &*( IS MOOT!

and please dont take my charter comic guy card away! hehe:cwink:

The Cap loses the Serum and ages rapidly plot was also done by Brubaker in the Steve Rogers Super-Soldier mini during the Bucky Cap time. I have no idea why Remender is doing a similar story. He usually has such a great grasp on Marvel history.
