Some of the news and speculation about Luke's future sounds wayyyy too bad. And I am afraid I would never like Star Wars ever. To me Star Wars really is about the Skywalkers and Luke specifically. Here is hoping they dont ruin one of the greatest characters of all time. Cheers

I'd personally LOVE to see Luke become the villain. Then have Kylo realize he doesn't want to become like his grandfather and help Rey. But it probably won't happen...

I am about 99.9% sure luke is not going to be bad. Yes it would be a surprise but that doesn't mean it would be a good surprise. Turning him bad after the way 6 ended would just be stupid and yes piss me off big time.

I would absolutely be disappointed (to the point that it would probably make me quit taking the movie seriously), mainly because it would completely go against Luke's character arc in ROTJ. If he were under some kind of mind control or possession it could work I suppose, but anything else would just be for pure shock value and nothing more.

I want him to go bad, the Skywalkers are all about redemption

As with most things, it would depend on the execution and story reasons.

Lol, never going to happen. That's what the entire climax and emotional crux of the OT was about.

"Never. I'll never turn to the Dark Side."

Yes, Luke is older, bitter, and maybe even a little broken, but he is incorruptible.

Yeah, but all this Mr Hamill talk about that he was confused as how Johnson saw Luke and Mark was shocked at how they used Luke.

It's not much of a stretch. Always saw Luke as grey - first time we see him in Jedi he's force choking some guards. Wouldn't bother me too much as long as they do it well.

"You've failed, your highness..."

Luke definitively going dark would undo his whole character arc in the OT. That's not what they're doing here. Luke being disillusioned and cynical is not the same as him abandoning what he became in his final test with Vader. His flirtation with the dark side already happened prior to that in Jedi. When he walks into Jabba's palace he's framed like the Emperor and chokes out the Gamorrean guards. But he ultimately chooses the path of light when he lays down the sword in self sacrificial love. 30 years of tragedy and perceived failure is not going to change that.

It wouldn't make me angry because I don't really care about the new films. TFA isn't even canon in my mind...but as a whole the missed oppurtunity is annoying.

Yeah, this is why I used the word "disappointed" instead of "angry". I'm braced for the worst with the sequel trilogy, and nothing it does can really make me angry at this point. The only thing that would make me angry is if the movie was boring and didn't provide an entertaining two hours.

We've already been down the 'evil Skywalker gets redeemed' road. Anakin already played out that storyline. Can't see them doing it again.

I could see Luke experimenting with the Dark Side in order to gain an understanding of it, but I can't see him going full blown evil. As was said, that would pretty much ruin his character and render the entire OT pointless. If Luke becomes evil too you'd have to wonder what the problem is with the Skywalker men and why they're so weak that they can't seem to avoid succumbing to the dark side.

If they went that route I could never accept it.

I would be upset if they would to turn Luke into a villain

We saw what happened when they did that with John Connor in Terminator.

I would be very pissed off if Luke became the bad guy. Disney already undermined the Rebels' victory over the Empire in Return of the Jedi by bringing in Kylo Ren and the First Order but to undermine Luke's triumph over the dark side is the ultimate spit in the face. I actually prefer him being the "Obi-wan" of the new trilogy.

Was it really undermined? The Rebel Alliance won the Galactic Civil War, and they started the New Republic. It's just that the Emperor had contingency plans and a remnant of the Empire was able to survive and build anew. The New Republic was at least in power longer than the Galactic Empire's existence, which was about 20+ years.

Not really, no. Suppose it depends on his outlook right now, but it'd probably be an interesting change of pace.

Luke isn't going bad. This would un-do his character arc in the OT.

Even if he was, I still wouldn't be pissed as even merely seeing him on the big screen for the first time ever (never seen the OT in cinemas) will be enough awesomeness for me.

In the small chance he is, I am sure LF will find a proper way to fit it into the story without it seeming too forced.

The rumor about bad Luke wouldn't have been so laughable had they not already tried this with the Force Awakens. Remember back when all those rumors popped up that the reason we didn't see any of Luke in the promo material was because they were going to have a big reveal at the end with Luke being the one controlling Kylo Ren?

That's like saying WWII undermined the victories of WWI.

Mark Hamill getting to play the bad guy? :hmm

Well, that's exactly what happened... The Treaty of Versailles and the post-war settlement made another war all but certain. The First World War was a pointless war that accomplished nothing and only set in motion further destructive conflict.
