Would you watch a rebooted X-Files with new actors?

Would you watch a rebooted X-Files series?

  • No. But only if it's Duchovny and Anderson.

  • I'm open to the idea of a NEW Mulder and Scully.

  • I'm open to new characters who aren't Mulder and Scully.

  • This show ended. Get over it.

Not necessarily Mulder and Scully, but new actors playing new characters?
Or hell, new actors playing Mulder and Scully, in a rebooted series?
I think I would. I would be interested in seeing the conspiracy episodes re-done in these times. Fresh episodes with new stories, too.

This idea came out of the X-Files 3 thread huh?
Unfortunatelly the original one didn't have an ending, with a 3rd movie needed to finally resolve the colunisation plot.

Besides, shows like Fringe and Supernatural already fill the gap, still, i wouldn't mind one reboot of x-files if they made it well and even tried to surpass the original.

During its time the show was realistic, of course with today's technology you could do better, but the story would have be drastically different.

Look, i'm not agains reboots, i even suggested one for Star Wars :P (don't judge me), but they have to bring something new and inovative, the original is so iconic, it inspired today's supernatural and UFO shows, it inspired shows like Smallville, Fringe, Buffy, Supernatural, etc.
It even inspired CSI, unfortunatelly it wasn't as lucky as CSI in in trying to change the main characters

X-files isn't like Buffy, buffy still continues with comics and the original creator is still interested in continuing so that the fandom is still strong and reacted so negativelly to the possibility of a remake, if they make a reboot that can improve from the original then yes, they could make it, either way it should in least have good creative minds behind it.

It didn't. I didn't even know there was a thread for it. :oldrazz:

The thing about CSI, Supernatural, and Buffy, is that there is constantly a heightened sense of hyper-reality. CSI: Miami and Vegas take it to ridiculous places, and fill it in between with cool techno song montages.

I loved The X-Files because it was Law & Order with supernatural elements. It needs to go back to that. Keep it in reality. Don't make it fancy and colorful like CSI. Keep it cold and dark.

Yeah, i think X-Files needs to be realistic and dark, while still funny now and then because of the chemistry of the main characters.

Fringe is of very quality and resemble the structure of X-Files sometimes, unfortunatelly being on Fox is going to make it end soon because the views are dropping.

I remember that each episode of the original show was supposed to feel like a film, i would like to se some of the quality of Breaking Bad in a show like this, i also think that the monsters of the week should be forgoten so easily, or not taken seriously by the government, the mistery behind some of the monsters was what kept them interesting, but it's unrealistic that a creature people never saw before appears and nobody is interested to know how they appeared or became like that.

Maybe in 10-20 odd years.
At the moment though, the Xfiles hasn't really aged, so, no point, other than greedy men in suits preying on fanboys seal clapping to a fresh look on something they once enjoyed.

Quantum Leap (although still solid) feels somewhat aged in certain regards. It has a super cool concept that was never properly resolved. Reboot that please.

Yeah, the only real problem I ever had with The X-Files was that all of these creatures exist in the same universe. I understand that that's what "The X-Files" is all about, but when you're in Season 6, you're telling yourself, "Aliens, Ghosts, Werewolves, Vampires, The Jersey Devil, people who squeeze themselves through small places, people who change their sexual organs, Alien Bounty Hunters, ESP children, telekinesis, dolls who come to life, robot cockroaches, spontaneous combustion ..." - It's exhausting. :woot: I would personally bring it back a tad, and focus on real life phenomena that doesn't involve creatures. Like, in the very first episode, the concept of "lost time." I LOVE that. A dead zone in the street where you lose minutes.

If It were It would be about monsters of the week with no Aliens/Government conspiracy/Serialized arcs.

There was talk of redoing Alias without Mytholgy elements meaning most likely a Mission of the week type show.

Now If there were Aliens,Government Conspiracy, and Serialized arcs I would be willing to watch a remade X-files.For more stand alone episodew were simply filler till they got back to Mytholgy episodes.

I would be willing to see new actors as Mulder,Scully,Skinner,Cancer Man,Krychek,The
Lone Gunmen. If they want to make the X-Files even more of a team I would have new probelms with recasted Doggett, and Reyes working with Mulder and Scully.

They need producers who would devolp a plan. It's fairly obvious Chris Carter made things up as he went along with no plan.

I think that not every episode had to be paranormal, x-files are cases that they couldn't find any answer but some cases could end up not being supernatural at all.

UFOs and Alien conspiracies are what i remember most in the show, and one of my favourite parts, there should be less monsters of the week and they should really have a plan, i don't think that the smoking man should be Mulder's father, that felt too much Vader/ Luke to me.

And yeah, lost time and strange fenomena like that should be explored more, not every episode needs to have a monster, as long as the story is interesting

Outside of the cancer man, Morris and a couple of other things, I generally took them as stand alone stories with Mulder And Scullys job acting as a vehical to get all this weird and mental stuff. When they tried to tie everything at the end, it was just a mess. Generally, the less they explained, the better it was. The only time I liked when they explained something in detail was "The Unnatural" with the alien as a negro baseball player.

The problem is that they knew how to give questions, but had problems giving answers, it's also interesting to note that while shows like Supernatural and Fringe have a similar structure to X-Files, no show had tried to use the UFO and Alien conspiracies, only in movies now.

I think it can be done, but as said before they should wait some more 10-20 years, and the problem is also that it was around the right time, now shows like this don't have as much success, now Crime, Medical and Police shows rule the TV, and ironically it was impulsed thanks to the success of C.S.I., that took some inspiration from X-Files

I'd give the show a try if they made it. If it's good then it's good and I´ll keep watching but if it isn't then I won't and I won't be any worse off.

The only thing I'd demand from the show runners is that they have the main storyline plotted out in advance. I don't want to see another crap fest like the original X-files main plot became. This demand actually extends to all shows that plan on having some main mystery running in the background.

At least it wasn't as bad as Lost. The magic sink hole that stops evil. And the stream that takes dead souls to glowy magic land.

Wut?

I stopped watching after the first couple seasons. Then I read they turned Mulder into an alien or something. This was when Duchovny thought he had a film career and left the show.

I'd say the best way to bring it back is to have new agents. Instead of rehashing the plots they can bring some actors back for special occasions.

David Duchovny is kind of like Matthew Perry - he became too popular for his own good. The popularity of him as his character stalled his career indefinitely. I'll throw Michael Richards and Jason Alexander in that list too.

Gillian Anderson seems to be doing alright, she is a great actress. I saw her in Great Expectations just this Christmas, she was fantastic performance wise.
But eh, Duchovny makes a good hand model.

Whether something is a reboot, remake, re-whatever or not doesn't factor into what I enjoy. If something looks good and/or appeals to me at some level, I'll give it a chance.

So yes, I would watch a rebooted X-Files.

I had an idea for an update on the show that I think could really get new peeps into it, as well as pleasing the old ones. Have it take place in like 2014, and the alien apocalypse never happened. All charges on Mulder are dropped due to evidence that he was right, and was involved in a government conspiracy. The syndicate has been shut down, and if aliens are still here they are not making they're presence known in any way. A sudden spike in paranormal activity across they country, forces the FBI to re-re-reopen the X-Files. But due to the sheer number of incidences the program is expanded, and Mulder is the man in charge of overseeing it's development. It's an ideal plot-line to have, you can do away with all the convoluted plot-lines leftover from the series. It would essentially be like Mulder making sure new agents don't muck everything up, and convincing them of accepting the supernatural happenings, while occasionally going to investigate stuff with Scully.

David Duchovny's had his own show on Showtime for four seasons, with the fifth starting next week. :whatever:

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing. Californication has been fairly successful. That's hardly what I'd call a career stall. Perry, Alexander and Richards unfortunately haven't had a single series between them that has lasted past one season.

A continuation series with new leads... I would'nt mind it. A reboot, no. But a continuation, preferably with some of the old writers, would be just fine.

I think that they should let the original writers and creators try to do something during the next 15-20 years, if nothing happens then whatever happens after, happens, if during that time they don't make another try at a 3rd film or another live-action show then i won't mind a reboot.

Right now is way too soon, and during a time like this it would probably be cancelled after 1 or 2 seasons, that is, if it went to Fox.

The could do the 3rd film and maybe finally prove Mulder and Scully's point to the world, then, a show about a bigger team to reoppen the x-files would be cool, still, it doesn't seem like Carter is giving a **** anymore, after buffy and angel ended what did Joss Whedon do?

He tried to make films and other tv shows set in that universe, when he couldn't he decided to make the continuation as a comic book, that's proof that he still cares, Murphy's not doing anyhting else now, but when he speaks of another x-files film or something else his reaction is maybe if Fox wants to.

We'll see, give them some more years to think about it, but if they don't do anything then let the next people do what they want with that franchise, if they want to continue or reboot that's up to them.

OT but everyone check out Gillian Anderson as Miss Havisham in the BBCs Great Expectations, she's terrific

A continuation with new agents ya. A complete reboot no.

This.

Hell, if they ever do a third movie that could introduce them that way.

Can't wait :word:

Of course if/when they do a softboot of this series they will probably have the female be the believer and male be the disbelief.
