Xbox Xbox Series X|S Thread

According to Digital Foundry you do not need to transfer Back Compat games to the internal SSD, an external SSD will have similar increased fast load times for back compat games as they do not use velocity architecture anyways.

I had heard that as a rumour separately too. How big would they count as? Also the fact Microsoft owned them before and they wanted to become independent puts a few doubts in there for me, but if they had actively had a change of heart then it would be significant.

If they got their love for Halo back I think many of the Halo fans who were put off with 5 could return. Also I think a really good game could be made from Destiny if enough work went into it. I guess I just assumed they wanted to make games that weren’t exclusive to one platform going forward.

If its not Bungie then maybe Microsoft is buying Square Enix or Activision. Final Fantasy or Call of Duty becoming a Microsoft exclusive would be a coup for the Xbox.

I’m not sure about likelihood but of course any of those would be massive. Haven’t heard much more about this since though.

The Initiative have high level staff who have worked on many of my favourite games. I think they could really come together and be one of the best, if not the best, studios under Xbox Game Studios. Can't wait to see what they're working on.

So has anyone here been able to secure a Series X/S preorder after that one initial preorder day?

I've been checking every day for the past couple weeks with no luck. :(

I haven't tried since. I'm busy till the end of the year anyway but will get one as soon as I can and ready to start playing regularly again. Hardly done any gaming in 2020. :csad:

Yeah, I haven't done much gaming over the last few months, either. Been busy with school work and cleaning house. Also, I feel like I've been "holding off" playing current games as we approach next gen launch.

At this point, I've kind of given up hope of preordering a Series X. I may just try my luck on launch day and try to get one in a local store. But if not, I can wait till next year.

Speaking of which, it wasn't planned, but I may be coming into possession of an Xbox One S. Will know in the next few days. If that pans out, that could at least tide me over until I get the Series X.

What's your current plan for next gen? To own one console or more?

Ideally it would be to own only one console. Although the recent moves from MS have given me more of a compelling reason to own both.

I'm still undecided as to which to get, or which to get first. Yes, I have the PS5 preordered, but if I can manage to preorder a Series X, or get it at launch, before picking up the PS5, then I think I would prefer the Series X.

I did manage to get that Xbox One S, though. So I guess I'm back in the Xbox fold! :)

If I get the Series X, this X1S can always be used as a secondary Xbox in another room or as a 4k player. But now that I'm back on Xbox, that does kind of influence my decision to go with the Series X over the PS5.

Though, I suppose, now that I have an X1S, that means I could get the PS5 first, use the X1S to play whatever Xbox games I'm interested for the next couple of years, and then get the Series X once the "big" Xbox exclusives start coming out.

I must say, with this being "only" an Xbox One S, to my casual, untrained eyes, these games still look pretty darn good on a 4K tv. I can only imagine how the next-gen games will look!

Also, when you go into Gamepass and see the sheer number of games available to play, including stuff like Elder Scrolls Online which you've always wanted to try, it's enough to make even Batman weep. :o

Yeah, that strategy works too.

Yeah, it's definitely getting harder to be a one console-player. Especially if we are possibly entering into a studio/property "arms race" where the main players are buying up studios/properties to secure exclusive content. There are now properties on each platform that interest me. Some interest me more than others, but I cannot totally ignore one platform now.

The more I think about it, I think the best move for me will be to get the PS5 first at launch since I've already got that preordered and (hopefully) secured.

I mean, I've been spending the whole night trying to preorder the Series X from Best Buy because they have been releasing spurts of preorders throughout the day. I even managed to get to the actual Preorder button and I spent 40 minutes just clicking on that to no success before getting kicked out.

Frankly, I'm tired of this whole preorder BS. I already spent 7 hours preordering the PS5. I got lucky then, but I don't have the time to repeat that with the Series X. It's wasting my time.

So, since I already have the PS5 preordered, and so far so good, I'll be thankful for that and just get the PS5 in a few weeks. And that will be my main console. Plus, on the whole, Playstation still is the platform that has most of what I'm interested in. So if I still had to pick one platform, it would be Playstation.

Now that I have an X1S, that can be my secondary console to play Gamepass and whatever Xbox games I want to play. Then, in a few years time when the big Xbox exclusives start coming out, I'll see if those games interest/impress me and I'll determine if I want to upgrade to the Series X at that point and what my life and gaming situation is then.

I'll just make sure when I plan out my dedicated media room (my project for next year), I'll factor in getting additional (tall) consoles like the Series X in the future. The vertical nature of these new consoles does really put limitations on what kind of media stand/cabinet to use.

But really, I'm just tired of this whole preorder mess. I got lucky with the PS5, but it's not something I really want to go through again in the future. It's just so damn frustrating and a huge waste of time!

Great for anyone who likes Alien. I showed my friend the gameplay and it’s right up his street.

I think I'd be more interested in Scorn if it were a 3rd person alien survival horror game instead of a FPS.

That's one criticism I have of the future Xbox lineup is that it is very 1st person heavy, especially with the Bethesda acquisition.

Can say the same for PS5 with third-person games...

Spider-Man
Horizon
Souls
GoW
Naughty Dog's games
Final Fantasy

That is true. And that certainly is a point of difference between the 2 platforms, each catering to a different preferred style of games.

That's also why, when I look at it based on the type of games I like, I tend to favor Playstation over Xbox.
