Xbox Xbox Series X Thread

Considering how little they've done with this generation of hardware, they have plenty of time to iterate on a new version.

Microsoft doesn’t want physical goods or digital games licensing. They want everything to be a subscription service like Microsoft Office / Game Pass with forced and required online connectivity.

I'm not sure if I agree with the premise of this article. If Xbox can be considered ahead of PlayStation & Nintendo just because of their software, then they might as well ripoff the bandaid and start releasing all of their software everywhere because that would maximize the point this article is trying to make.

I think releasing everything everywhere has been the plan for a good while (from the higher execs rather than the Spencer level ones), but they knew it would be too much to jump all in in one day after decades of traditional console exclusives (look what happened when the X1 did too much in one go). Microsoft as a company started becoming platform agnostic with Office and moving to the subscription model led to great success - and they are trying to emulate that in gaming, whether it eventually works or not is another matter.

I totally get what you're saying and it makes sense if Microsoft themselves just flat out said that they aren't competing the console space anymore. but they still are. and it doesn't help that a headline like this further pushes console wars just by wording it as "Xbox ahead of Playstation". they know exactly what they're doing with that.

like yeah, they are ahead in that sense because of the software, which is made by Bethesda & Activision. but by that logic, Bethesda & Activision were ALWAYS ahead of Playstation in terms of software. but obviously, no one ever looks at it that way because Playstation and Xbox are primarily household names as hardware.

Clickbait title is surprising? :D

Even if the event being reported was that an intern at a studio farted, the title would be console 1 now ahead of console 2 in big letters (on intern farting metrics in small letters later in the article).

The headline “Indiana Jones is doing well” isn’t as enticing/provocative to most readers to encourage them to click, unless they were already looking for that kind of article.
