Young Logan Cast?

Is it possible that Smit-McPhee had to back out of the Logan role?

There's no mention of Wolverine in this Hollywood Reporter article.

and then there's this....

It could be that Kodi's part won't be filmed until near the end of the shoot and may not be for very long. There could be TWO Young Logan's I guess - one Kodi's age and then another as a teenager.

You may very well be right.I forgot that Smit McPhee hasn't hit his teens yet.:o

It looks like a different boy has been cast as young Wolverine: Perth Now.
THIRTEEN-year-old Perth boy Troye Mellet will play the young Hugh Jackman in his new X-Men movie, Wolverine.
The baby-faced lad won the role after YouTube videos of him singing caught the eye of Hollywood talent scouts.

Mellet was then asked to submit an audition tape - which won him the part.

The budding singer and actor performed solo on the past two Telethons and did a duet with Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian.

He also played Oliver at The Regal Theatre last year.

Nice find!
Wonder what happened - Kodi must have been cast since he made quotes about the movie.
I think what happened is that Smith McPhee had to back out because of the changes in the shooting schedule (partly due to Australia). Remember that his scenes were going to be shot at Fox Studios in December? That date got pushed back to February by which time he already started The Road in the U.S.
There's a few YouTube clips attached to the story above so click on the link:

He's got a good voice.

Oh yes, forgot about that. I think we had speculated when we read about the other movie that maybe he wasn't needed until the end of the WOLVERINE shoot so he could go off and do the THE ROAD. I guess that isn't the case.

Apparently the first kid couldn't sing well enough to play a young Hugh Jackman.

Haha...if he can cartwheel off a piano, he gets the part. :oldrazz:

Hopefully there's a little diddy on the DVD with Jackman and him singing together.

Good for him. YouTube really is a way to feature ones self. Who knew. He doesn't look that bad, either.

1. The kid looks like James Howlet aka wolverine from the Orgin series
Which is Awsome!
2. He deff. like alot of you guys said has the pyco, serial killer look. Like he just might snap and rip your face off.

looks like a good pick

ONE boy's misfortune is another's opportunity. Eleven-year-old AFI award-winner Kodi Smit-McPhee has had to drop his role as the young Wolverine in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

Confirmed to replace him in the film, now shooting in Sydney, is 13-year-old singer Troye Mellet. And Mellet looks and sounds the part to play the young Hugh Jackman. Yes, he's from Perth (Jackman trained there) and yes, he can sing. Perth already knows Mellett as a singer from local telethons. Others have noticed him on YouTube with a charming webcam solo filmed at his house (try the tag, TroyeSivan18). But no, Hollywood casting agents didn't find him on the internet. Mellet is yet to join his co-stars Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston and the Black Eyed Peas' Will i Am on set in Sydney. It's not all bad for Smit-McPhee though; he had to move on to shooting the adaptation of Cormac McCarthy's moving novel, The Road, with Aussie director John Hillcoat. He'll star opposite Viggo Mortensen in the post-apocalyptic two-hander that has somehow squeezed in a starring role for Charlize Theron (she's the mother seen inflashback).

X-factor plays part in Dianella boy’s leap to X-Men
19th April 2009, 9:00 WST

At just 13, Dianella performer Troye Sivan is well on his way to Hollywood stardom with a role in Hugh Jackman’s soon-to-be-released blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

The Carmel student was cast as young Logan — Hugh Jackman’s character as a child — after a Hollywood producer spotted him in a Telethon performance broadcast on YouTube. Telethon executive producer John Crilly said Sivan, who has performed in the past three Telethon shows, including an impromptu duet with Australian Idol winner Guy Sebastian, was a rare talent.

“You do auditions and you always hope someone is going to come along and blow your socks off, which he did,” he said. “He just had that unique voice, not just a strong voice but a fantastic personality. He’s such a great kid. He knows what is going on around him, he’s extremely polite and his parents are the same, they have really helped him along.”

During Telethon 2006, Sebastian heard Sivan sing and insisted the two perform a duet, rather than Sebastian sing a solo from his new album.

After a short practice the duo performed to rapturous applause.

Sivan, who is said to have so-called X-factor star qualities, has had a swag of stage performances including sharing the lead role in the MS Society’s 2007 production of Oliver! at the Regal Theatre.

Director John Milson said Sivan was a pleasure to work with.

South African-born Sivan has released a CD of five songs called Dare to Dream.

He was flown to Sydney to shoot his scenes in Wolverine, starring Ryan Reynolds and Liev Schreiber alongside Jackman.
