We are all guilty of a being a fan of a few pieces of cinema that we know or are blissfully unaware of how bad they actually are.

With that in mind I thought it would be funny to see what terrible movies everyone loves.

(Your film needs to qualify on at least one of these three rules to be able to be included)

RULES

1. On Rotten Tomatoes it must hold a rotten rating & have the tipped over popcorn bucket
2. Be ranked under 5 stars by IMDB
3. Or have been a box office flop

My list is as follows.

1. The Avengers - Long before we had Iron Man, Cap and Thor we had John Steed and Ms. Peel. The storylines were nothing similar with The Avengers of today and featured Sean Connery as the villain with a weather controlling machine, its even more ridiculous than it sounds and I love it.

2. I Spy - This is one of those movies where I just don't understand why it didn't work. It has Eddie Murphy in fine form, it has Owen Wilson as a bumbling secret agent. A story revolving around them trying to recover the US latest stealth aircraft.

3. Wild Wild West - Will Smith apparently turned down The Matrix to do this movie and I thank him for that. Not only because The Matrix would be very different but because I actually loved this movie. Its a pure popcorn flick and never tries to be anything more.

4. Dungeons & Dragons - I will preface this by saying I have never played the game, if I had maybe I would have a very different opinion of this movie but personally as a guy who likes anything do with magic, mythical creatures and Wayans comedy this was always a winner for me.

5. The Pagemaster - When people bring up Macaulay Culkin very few mention this film first and of all his movies this was always my favourite the story takes you through some of the most famous stories in fiction and always keeps the distinctive art style.

What would your top 5 be?

Oh man. I love me some bad movies. It’s hard to pick a top 5, but I’ll try. Hmmm...

1. Conan the Destroyer: Call me crazy, but I like it better than the original. It’s terrible, but also very imaginative and it reminds me of the goofy Nintendo RPGs I played growing up, like Dragon Warrior and Zelda. Also, as a Wonder Years and Superman II fan, the double dose of hotness that Olivia D’Abo and Sarah Douglas bring can’t be beat.

2. Cave Dwellers: This one is a Conan rip-off (I think). I’ve only seen the MST3K version, but it’s hilarious. The lead actor also did porn.

3. Superman IV: Christopher Reeve is the only redeeming factor in this schlocky mess (and even he looks bad in the fight scenes). This movie KILLED the Superman franchise (though the previous installment also did a lot of damage), but if you can just accept that, it’s hilarious to watch.

4. Cool As Ice: Vanilla Ice’s first (and only, hopefully) lead role in a film. He basically plays himself. Rather than watch the whole movie, I recommend just checking out the Nostalgia Critic review. It’s amazing.

5. The Wicker Man: I’ve never seen the original, but the Nic Cage version is a bad movie classic. Once he puts on a bear costume and starts beating people up, it just kills me.

1. New Best Friend: Mia Kirshner plays a college girl gone wrong -- basically Olivia Jade with a murder plot and lesbian scenes -- who claws her way up the job ladder by worming her way into a rich social circle. Taye Diggs plays a southern sheriff with a dozen different accents and a lazier way of going about his job than a NYPD cop investigating a hate crime.

2. Soul Survivors: Inception with lesbians, a horror plot, and an even more confusing storyline. Other than Eliza Dushku dying and going into some kind of hell dream place for some reason, I'm still not sure what this is about.

3. The Smokers: College women (a common theme in these films) decide to strike back at abusive men in their lives by ... raping them. The tables turn, as they say, when the men respond with glee by lining up to be "raped." I'm not making this up.

4. The Room: "Lisa, you're tearing me apart." "Hi, Mark." The cancer story. The most awkward love scene in history. The flower scene. Lots of footballs and meaningless establishing shots. Spoons. Objectively, probably the greatest bad film ever made.

5. The Last Airbender. There may be better bad movies, but those are a dime a dozen, and the minute-by-minute incompetence of this one -- the tons of exposition, the incomprehensible plot, the super-white brown actors, the tortured line-readings from Nicola Peltz and Aaron-what's his name, the Playstation 1 level CGI -- are breathtaking.

I was originally going to add The Last Action Hero to this list as my number 5 but it actually made a profit at the box office.

Still can't believe its even considered as a terrible movie.

Probably my favourite Arnie movie lol.

Probably my favourite Arnie movie lol.

I’m surprised it turned a profit. I remember everyone saying it was a bomb when it came out. I only saw it once and I enjoyed it but I remember thinking the end was stupid and made the whole movie feel like a waste of time.

I don't really have a top 5, but...

Fateful Findings (any Neil Breen movie would fit here...they are all next level awful...but this was the first I saw. If you ever saw The Room and thought "I want this...but vaguely sci fi and something something hackers...and I definitely want to get hit over the head with a mostly incomprehensible message" then this is for you!)

Riki-Oh: The Story of Ricky: The greatest martial arts movie of all time...or the greatest ANY movie of all time?

I feel like my favorite movie of all time, Flash Gordon, belongs on this list...but it's actually fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Yeah...I'll stop there.

I’ve never seen the Flash Gordon movie but the Queen song is amazing.

Some of the most fun I've ever had with bad movies at the top of my head:

The Room
Manos: The Hands of Fate
Hobgoblins
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance
Deathstalker II

I find all these movies fun for the wrong reasons.

1. Street Fighter - Basically a live action 80s cartooncartoon, anchored by a great villain. The problem is it is a Street Fighter movie that is nothing like Street Fighter. If it was a GI Joe movie that came out in 1987 as opposed to 1994, I'm sure it would be far more popular.

2. The Man with the Golden Gun - Another movie anchored by a great performance from the villain. Christopher Lee is fantastic in this. Probably the weirdest Bond movie, although Moonraker (another guilty pleasure) is up there to.

3. Daredevil - Probably the CBM where I disagree most with the consensus. It was a victim of executive meddling. The TC is still watchable and it is obvious the director had passion for the character. The DC is legitimately good.

4. Under Seige 2: Dark Territory - A lot of dumb action movies are out there that got panned, but I found fun. This is one of the ones that stands out the most for me.

5. Pirates of the Caribbean Sequels - I'm one of the few that don't think the first one was the best. Until the last installment, I even thought it was the weakest. The most extreme example is probably On Stranger's Tides. It is arguably my favorite (it or Dead Man's Chest) and the one I rewatch most often. Yet it is frequently called the worst. Let's just say my opinion on this franchise in general is in no way aligned with the majority.

Mortal Kombat '95
Batman Forever
Event Horizon
Hackers
Resident Evil '02

I have a running list of about 300 movies on IMDB, these are some of the lower rated ones, none under 5 on IMDB but I took that, checked RT and they're all Rotten with a tipped over bucket so they qualify to your thread rules. I don't consider any of these movies terrible but without doing any deeper digging at the moment these meet your quota.

1. Desperate Measures (1997)
2. Rules of Engagement (2000)
3. Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)
4. Smoking Aces (2007)
5. Blitz (2011)

BVS
Smoking Aces
The Punisher (2004)
The Day After Tomorrow
Twister

I'll try to pick movies that are pretty much terrible in every sense to the word, so I'll try to dig stuff worse than simply bad.

1. Mortal Kombat Annihilation
Everything is cheap and cheesy, the script is lazy, everybody other than our protagonist knows about the prophecy that is so faulty two days before it even happened, but then we find out that legend is a lie. The top brass villain is useless and whiny, nothing makes sense.
And it still manages to be a strangely delightful treat, that happens to be even better when you watch it with a friend who likes to mock it with you.

2. Batman Forever
Stupid beyond belief, every second in it is questionable. It is a movie that is actually worse than the turkey that succeeded it, especially with how stiff and wooden the lead is compared to the one before him and his successor. But it still manages to be a delight to sit through, one that I enjoy more than

3. Batman & Robin
This one tried to be deeper with its villains, the lead is fun and is right most of the time, the villains are lame and hilarious despite what is said earlier... but it's a pleasure to sit through.
Also.. this is the only Batman movie to show the strong will of Batman, he resists mind control, his orders are on the mark, he relays them without coming off overly stern and unpleasant, instead... he's like a caring old brother you can believe is stern for being caring and gentle. I think this might be the best Batman we had on screen in those respects, and is an integral part of the complete definition of Batman.
I'll have to complete this with an ice pun: "MY icy cold heart is immune to emotions".

4. Superman IV: Quest for Peace
I did not enjoy it that much last time I saw it, but I do enjoy it more often than not. Lex Luthor as played by Gene Hackman is always a delight.

I don't have a proper entry to fill the fifth spot.... maybe I should just say Wolverine Origins and call it a complete list.

Whether it constitutes 'terrible', it will in most people's eyes, but to me it's childhood perfectionism and that's Biggles : Adventures in Time. That would be my fave.

Superman III
Conan the Destroyer
Leprechaun 2 or 3
Dungeon Master aka Rage Wars
Lionheart

A few other dishonorable mentions...

Space Mutiny
Krull
Masters of the Universe
Sharknado
Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders
Hellraiser
