Your Top 5 CBM's You Consider Underrated

Only two:

Watchmen.
Man of Steel.

The former, especially.

These aren't top 10, but they're all decent flicks that get unnecessary heat.

1.Green Lantern
2.Spawn
3. Hulk
4. Daredevil
5. Blade: Trinity

Daredevil director cut is better than normal cut. Green Lantern is bad. I think it deserve the heat. Blade trinity too.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1990)

Daredevil (Director's Cut)

The Punisher (2004)

Watchmen
Man of Steel
Spider-Man 3
Captain America: The First Avenger
The Amazing Spider-Man

One thing I liked better in the Daredevil film than the Netflix Series was the chemistry between Matt and Foggy, and a lot of the scenes that were cut for the TC were between the two. They actually felt like best friends, whereas I didn't think they did in the series.

Watchmen
Blade 1 & 2
Captain America: TFA
Iron Man 3

1) Ang Lee's Hulk, possibly the most under rated CBM ever IMO. It's still great today and a movie I still watch every now and again.
2) Superman Returns, much the same as above
3) Dredd
4) Watchmen: DC
5) Man Of Steel

3-5 get far too much flack for me and IMO are much better movies than people give them credit for. The top 2 despite me thinking they are under rated I can actually understand many of the criticisms of them. But all 5 are very under rated for me overall.

I'll just go outside the big universes and mention Hellboy 1+2 and Blade 1+2.

Not disliked movies but I don't feel they are talked about as much as they should be. It goes especially for the sequels in both cases, which both clearly improve upon the original.

I guess I could say TDW based on the other thread, as I like it but I don't really have an issue seeing why some others don't either.

Really no point in including Dredd 3D at this point. It's more underexposed/overlooked than underrated. Literally every "graphic novel" movie that almost never comes up because they can't be boxed within the conventional "superhero" or "action" genres suffers a similar fate.

1. V for Vendetta (favorite cbm of all time)
2. Scott Pilgrim vs the World
3. Wanted
4. The Rocketeer
5. Tank Girl

I didn't vote for Blade, Hellboy, or Dredd because i perceive them to be well-regarded.

I love these kind of threads, no joke, they're fun.

Okay, I know how Rotten Tomatoes works, and I don't give a ****, but I'm still going to use it as a comparative scale (no doubt some of you will take issue with that, as it's not technically correct, but as much as I love you all I still don't care).

So what I'm going to do is assign the RT score that I think each film deserved - using the % as an arbitrary measure compared to other films of similar quality ( I mean, if you look at RT it's intrinsically flawed anyway, because the Godfather and ****ing Toy Story have the same rating, and Toy story has a better rating than Aliens or MM Fury Road, which we all know is ******** !) So, okay, there now I've *****ed about RT for a while ( watch out Screen Junkies, you're next) I'm going to totally misuse the % as, again, a totally arbitrary measure of the films' quality.

It's as if I could use Prof X's amazing mind control powers and make critics see what I see in films, or at least enough of them to agree with me.

Here goes.

1) Man of Steel : I just don't get why people don't like this movie. It's not perfect, but no movie is. It's still awesome, and a great Superman movie (okay not much of a contest when your competition is Superman III, IV and Superman Returns).
True it's not the Dark Knight or Iron Man, but it's still a really good movie.

BTW - no disrespect to people who've said they liked it, I respect your opinions, but Superman Returns in my view is actually the worst Superman film to date (yes, worse than Quest for Peace, which at least had Chris Reeve in it) and is massively overrated. Sorry, couldn't resist. In Man of Steel we get a feel for Supes dilemma and he's a real character, in SR he's pretty much a plot device. But hey, that's just me, and if you liked it, more power to you.

RT score 55 %, screw you critics, it should have got, at least 80-85%

2) Thor, The Dark World: Was a better film than Thor, had a weak main villain but Kurse was well done, the Dark Elves had a great spooky look and vibe, and sci-fi/fantasty Asgard was cool. Plus Hiddleston, greatest Marvel villain - really gives Magneto a run for his money (yes, I know he's Fox).

RT score 66%, **** off, should have been at least 75- 80%

3) Speed Racer: not technically comic book (although there's been one) massively underrated and misunderstood, it was fun, visually stunning and mixed humour, action and heart - as well as being a scathing satire on corporate greed and the corporatisation and commercialisation (may have made those words up) of sports. Wachowskis nailed this one, but nobody seems to have got it.

4) Catwoman...... just kidding, it was **** ! RT Score 9%....thoroughly deserved !

4) Green Lantern..... ha, got you again, it was also **** (although not as **** as Catwoman) ! RT score 26%.....that's a bit rough, I would have gone as high as 55% ( hey, Mark Strong as Sinestro was awesome, as was Michael Clarke Kilowog, RIP)

4) Iron Man 2..... come on, you have to stop falling for this, in terms of biggest let-down in cinema history this one takes the cake. If the first
Iron Man movie was a wicked cool Ferrari, Iron Man 2 was a ****ing Lada !
RT score 72% ....score it really deserved, 30% maybe.

Okay sorry, I got off on a tangent there, sorry for subverting the thread.

4) Fantastic 4, rise of the Silver Surfer: FF has always had a goofy kind of vibe, and this movie had just that. IMO Chris Evans was a far better human torch than Captain America - and he and Chiklis really captured the relationship between the Thing and the Torch. The worst parts of the film were Dr Doom (he was ****) and Galactus ( he was .....well worse than ****), but Doom stealing the Surfer's powers is a classic storyline that got a little bit of love from the writers, and the heart of the film is the chemistry of the four leads, who carry it off admirably.
And hey, it's way better than F4 2015 - although to be honest, that film isn't as bad as it's made out to be either.

RT score 37%....I would say it deserves a score of at least 60-70%

5) Age of Ultron: okay, it was let down by the final action set piece big battle with generic Ultrons, but with a little more thought, that could have been done really well and been awesome. However, the first 2 acts of the film are better IMO than Avengers, and have a lot more character development - plus the Hulk v Hulkbuster fight is still up there with the Battle of Smallville (MOS) as best superbeing v superbeing fight so far in cinema history - makes Iron Man v Thor look like Kids wrestling in a sandpit. Plus, this film actually makes you give a **** about Hawkeye, which is a tall order.

RT score 74%..... again **** you critics, the impossible-to-live-up-to-the-hype-of-Avengers may have blinded some, but this film deserved at least 85%, a very solid sequel.

Honourable mention:

Jonah Hex.....ha,ha,ha got you again, this was elephant ****, and it had a cast of some of the most talented actors working today.

RT score 12%..... wow, at least one or two people liked this film, that's what surprises me the most.

Okay, sorry, I had to fit JH in there somewhere.

So the real Honourable mentions are:

Watchmen ( I would have rated it around 85% if I was the God of RT, people were too demanding, and the film was as faithful as it could be. With a recasting of a couple of characters this could have been amazing [it was still damn good !] plus Jackie Earle Haley captured Rorschach perfectly, born to play the role. Put Tom Cruise or Michael Fassbender in as Ozymandias, Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr Manhattan, maybe Jessica Biel or Jessica Alba as Silk Spectre II and you have a whole different film.
And for ****'s sake, put a jockstrap over the giant glowing blue penis, there's faithfulness to the source material, and then there's going too far.

Still, I think it's underrated.

RT score 65%.....I think it deserves around 75-85%

Dredd....come on Karl Urban growls, there's plenty of excessive force (and just straight up executions) and he maintains the number one rule of Dredd by never taking off the helmet. Totally underrated.

RT score 78% ...... more like 88%

V for Vendetta. Again, come on the
plot twist that Eve's capture , torture and brainwashing are actually all done by V
makes your head spin, that alone is worth an 80%

RT score 73%.... a comic book film that actually makes people think, come on critics, so 80% +

Cheers. Peace out superfans !

I didn't vote for Blade, Hellboy, or Dredd because i perceive them to be well-regarded.

I did because I think they are good enough to be talked about in the same way the big franchises are, but they aren't. Also there's not many movies considered bad that I think are good. All Blade movies are rotten on RT though.

1st 2 Blade movies do NOT deserve to be rotten on RT, they should be much higher than plenty of other CBMs.

I think in terms of setting up the genre of CBM, between Batman and X-Men it was Blade.

I agree. I didn't include it on my "underrated" list because, judging by the posts I've seen about the movie here on The Hype and elsewhere, I didn't think it was underrated. Had no idea it was rotten on RT until this thread...

 Blade started it again, X-Men made it more mainstream, and Spiderman took the genre into blockbuster territory.

I think people mean it is under-rated as it very rarely gets mentioned in 'best of' discussions.

Thinking about it, I'd argue Blade set up more of the modern leather-clad monster hunter genre more so than the "genre of CBM", but it's a cbm regardless.

Jonah Hex was such a waste of talent. Josh Brolin set out to make a version of High Plains Drifter, and he ended up with a turd. It could have been amazing.

1. Superman: Returns2. Spider-Man 3
3. Ghost Rider
4. Hulk 2003
5. Judge Dredd

You are so right !

With Brolin, Fassbender, Shannon and John Freakin' Malkovich, it should have been amazing.

There are a number of films throughout cinematic history that have squandered the talents of huge casts.

Here's a list that has JH on it :

The fact that no one has put "League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" as underrated restores some of my faith in humanity. :)

Cheers.

"Thor"...
"Dark Knight Rises"...
"Iron Man 2"...

All three are great movies imo!

Watchmen
Hulk
Batman Forever (yeah you heard me! I feel like it gets a worse rep than it deserves because of what came after it)
Superman Returns
Man of Steel
