(Possibly) with Olyphant to boot...

'Justified' Team Reunites to Develop 'City Primeval' at FX (EXCLUSIVE) - Variety

“Justified” was based on Leonard’s character, Raylan Givens, who appeared in multiple novels and the short story “Fire in the Hole.” Givens was a Deputy U.S. Marshal who is reassigned to his native Kentucky after a controversial shooting. “City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit” follows a killer named Clement Mansell, known as the “Oklahoma Wildman,” and dedicated Detroit homicide detective Raymond Cruz who vows to take him down.

They get Tim and I'll come running. :D

I read this book several years ago. It's such a short, simple story I don't really see the appeal in making it a series or even a mini series. It's just a neo western that has one cop hunting down a crazed killer. Unless they have plans to expand it by using the Givens character then maybe? I haven't watched Justified so I don't enough to say to give them the benefit of the doubt. But from what I know this could just be a 90 minute movie.

Justified's source material was only 2 books. Leonard released a third book when the show was in season 2 or 3. Other than that tho the showrunnwrs and writers were pretty much making it up as they went, and they did a great job. Granted that doesnt mean this new show is a guaranteed success, but theyve at least proven they are capable of taking scant source material and spinning a lot of gold out of it.

Justified was and still is one of my favorite shows. Tim Olyphant and Walton Goggins made that show. :) Its easy to think the same creative team could do well if they get another sterling cast.

I bet that if they get Timothy Olyphant then Raylan Givens would be used much the same way Karen Sisco was used on the one Justified episode that she appeared in.

While Raylan was the main character as the series went on it almost seemed like Boyd Crowder became the central protagonist- especially in the final season.

Boyd was a more nuanced character than Raylan - compelling in some ways and repellent in others. I wouldn't have enjoyed Justified as much without Boyd, so any follow up would need a character with his depth - and played by someone of Goggins' talent.

Oh, seriously. The way those two played off each other was magic. :)

**** YES!

I’m so down for this. Bonus points if they bring back Boyd for a scene or two. Also, since someone mentioned Karen Sisco (or Goodall), I would love to see her show up again here. I know she only appeared in one episode of Justified but give Carla some love.

Oh, Detroit? Wynn Duffy!

So when will the show with my best boy air? Also Loretta needs to find her way to Detroit apparently!

While on one hand I'm excited to see Raylan back on manhunt, I'm a bit nervous, as sequels don't often turn out to be that great

Can they recapture the magic of the original - without the rustic setting of Harlan, or the evil charm of Boyd Crowder ? As great as Tim is in the role, what really lifted the show to being something truly special was the supporting cast.

Also, the series ended on a pitch perfect note - kind of like the original Bourne trilogy. Going back for another look only undermined that.

Who knows? Let's hope for great things.

Based on Tim's role in Mandolorian I think he's still entirely capable of being Raylan. But I share your concerns. The original show always lost some of its charm when characters went to Detroit, Canada, Mexico etc.

Yeah the Harlan setting really adds something to the show. I think initially it was only intended to be Raylan’s home base and certain cases would take him all over the U.S. (I remember one early episode where he was out west). But I think they realized that the show loses some of its charm when it relocates itself. Still, I’m hopeful. I would have much rather had a Cobb Vanth spin-off than boring-ass Boba Fett so if I can’t have that, Olyphant playing his more famous Marshal character is definitely something I’m down for.

Interesting that both Raylan and Boyd left Harlan alive. That song is false advertising!

Maybe he can even bring Pam Grier out of retirement for a role!

Looks like Nazi Nick Searcy won’t be in this series. Good.
