At least Mozilla will give you the option to turn off the AI. How hard is that, Microsoft, Google, every other ****ing AI-addicted company trying to shove it down our throats? Give us a "no ****ing thank you" AI kill switch option.

I mean I don't want to be targeted by ads while going on Facebook or YouTube, so bold of you to assume that activity... :sus

Yes the killswitch is nice, but to be fair to Mozilla, I don't think they're offering LLM-powered AI features on Firefox. AI is just a buzzword nowadays, because if we're talking about classic AI like machine learning (ML), it definitely has its legitimate uses.

Auto-translating a webpage for example: Vivaldi is based on Chromium, but they use a third-party translator so the text you translate doesn't go through Google's networks.

Other features like text-to-speech or speech-to-text are very useful for accessibility. Another neat feature is helping visually impaired users with images by describing them (e.g. the Chris Farley image above) by generating any missing alt text to images. These features can use small models or local models so data centers aren't even used which can definitely help environmental-wise.

Thankfully USB-C is the standard from now on.

@Gee for those who don't have them, the Divinity games are a really great deal on the Steam holiday sale.

Yeah got them on GOG. They're quite old so I'm curious to see how they play on modern computers (specifically Divine and Beyond). I may try Divinity 2 since it's more recent.

I think anyone interested in the newly announced Divinity game, they're better off with the Original Sin games considering the next game will be closer to those.

Yeah, I figured you have them. The enhanced/definitive versions of the Original Sin games are bundled for about $15 CAD, which is specifically why I mentioned them since I assume a lot of new Larian fans from BG3 probably want to take a look at the series in advance of the new game.

I played some of the first Original Sin and a little bit of the sequel but never got around to finishing both games.

Now with my new rig, I'm going through my backlog so I will eventually get to them before the new Divinity. Heck, I really need to finish BG3 too. :funny:

Nice! What did you build? I might have missed the specs.

I ended up getting a 1000W PSU and 2TB SSD instead. Also added a 4TB SSD just for games last month.

If I knew RAM prices would have skyrocketed, I would have probably gone with 2x32GB RAM...

My final build... Just under $3500 CAD. I'm going with only 1TB SSD for now and will buy a 2TB SSD just for games later this year during Black Friday or Boxing Day. I would have preferred a Samsung SSD instead of WD, but Samsung Canada's support is apparently ****ing terrible when it comes to their storage products like SSDs/HDDs...

I also wish I could get a Noctua CPU cooler and case fans, but oh boy, are they ****ing overpriced... I've had nothing but Noctua fans/coolers in the past. Thermalright seems to be great value/performance (and they do seem to be Noctua knoc-offs :funny:). I will try that 5-fan pack and if they're too noisy, I'll get some Be Quiet! ones or just settle for the good old Noctua fans.

I will re-use the HDDs of my current PC for this one.

Satya Nadella is going all-in on AI and says it's the future and here to stay. 😒

Is there a reason Microsoft locked away Auto Dark Mode behind PowerToys?

I'm that weirdo using Ubuntu with Flatpaks instead of Snaps... they just work better, dammit! :argh:

AI, AI, AI...

Nvidia will have a Geforce panel later tonight probably to announce the recently leaked DLSS 4.5 and the dynamic 6x frame generation:
