The prospect of being in a Hollywood movie alongside one of his comic book heroes and getting paid for it was too much for Dustin Widger to pass up Saturday afternoon.

So the 20-year-old Belleville man dropped into the Quinte Sports Centre to attend an open casting call for the movie, The Incredible Hulk, that will be released in June of 2008.

“I’m not an aspiring actor but it would be fun to do a movie... and make a little bit of cash,“ Widger said with a smile.

Kleiman Casting Ltd. of Toronto processed more than 200 movie-hopefuls over a three-hour period inside the hockey arena. Each person filled out a brief questionnaire listing some of their physical attributes, any experience they had with the military, weapons or firearms training, marital arts, sports, and whether they had a special driver’s licence and even a pilot’s licence.

Every applicant had his or her photo taken by the Toronto casting firm.

Successful applicants will be notified over the next couple of weeks.

The company was looking for fit/athletic males and females, 18 years of age and older, who were interested in playing soldiers in the movie being produced by Marvel Enterprises, creators of The Incredible Hulk comic books.

Local filming for the movie is scheduled to take place July 26 and 27 at CFB Trenton.

As extras, the chosen soldiers would be paid $10 an hour. Their work day would run from 12 to 16 hours both July 26 and 27.

Michaela McCrady, 18, is hoping to be selected.

“I thought it would be fun to be part of the Hulk and save some money for university,“ said the 18-year-old who just graduated from Nicholson Catholic College.

McCrady took drama in high school, has done theatre camps and plans to take more drama courses when she enters university next year.

Being in a movie, she noted, would give her a one-of-a-kind experience.

“You have nothing to lose trying,“ she said.

Older adults also waited in line for a shot at movie stardom.

Lindsay Thomson, 47, of Belleville, said it would be an interesting experience to be in a movie.

“But I really want to see how they shoot a movie,“ he said.

He’s also prepared to do whatever it takes when the director yells ‘action.’

“I feel I’m in shape and I’m ready to do whatever it takes as a soldier in the movie,“ said Thomson.

Dave Daley, 44, of Trenton, said curiosity got the better of him.

“My daughters are all excited about me trying out for a movie,“ said Daley, a captain with the machine shop at CFB Trenton.

“I think it’s really interesting to see how it’s all done and I’m willing to do any part,“ he said.

Zameret Kleiman, of Kleiman Casting Ltd., said she is looking for between 35 and 50 people from the casting call.

“They will be strictly soldiers in the movie,“ she said.

“I was told to find some military types, male and female. I’m very impressed with the look of the people who came here. We have a lot of great choices.“

Kleiman said she will study all the applicants’ photographs and narrow them down to a manageable number.

“I’ll show the photos to the director of the movie and he’ll make the final cuts,“ she said.

The director, Louis Leterrier, is making the sequel to the original Hulk movie directed by Ang Lee and released in 2003.

The new movie will star Edward Norton in the title role and, of course, dozens of soldiers selected from Saturday’s casting call.

“We’ll definitely get what we need and what we came here for today,“ Kleiman said confidently.

Lucky Bastaches!

So, does this mean that filming for this movie doesn't start until July 28th; or that's just when this particular location starts shooting?

just that particular location shoot. It should have started shooting today.

I don't usually visit the Hulk board, but I just wanted to point out that they seem to be asking for people with skills in "Marital Arts". Kind of a big typo.

And Sava, who is that gorgeous girl in your avatar?

Jun Ji Hyun, a korean actress

Well me too, I hate being such eager to have something to discuss, cause there's nothing i can do about it until we get some news...

I really hope the shooting will go fine and that they can carry on all the other stuff in the same time...
