The main character in this movie reminds me of Ronon from Stargate Atlantis

This looks less appealing to me than spiderwick chronicles and that does not bode well for its boxoffice prospects.

Spiderwick was actually really good. Not as good as Narnia, but at least the marketing was accurate, unlike Terabithia. :cmad:

Hm, still need to get this film.
I think the pay day will be the right time.

What the hell are you on about? 10,000BC hasn't been released yet so you can't get it on pay day!

I'm shocked there is no video game tie-in with this. It just screams hack and slash.

this is the second time a movie about the past is coming out around this time. Last year was 300 and now 10,000 B.C. I guess Spring break time is as good as any for a history lesson. lol

I'll probably see it, looks decent. I'm glad they're speaking english too, simplifies things. Looks like it's got action, and it looks pretty epic in terms of fx and cgi, the civilizations look pretty cool overall. Not saying I'll see it the day it's out, but eventually for sure.

Yeah, it looks pretty epic. I just hope it isn't overly Hollywood like 'TROY' was.

If this is a success, i can't wait to see what they do with the 'Clash of the Titans' remake.

THey should have went Apocalypto and gave us something audiences never have seen before... cavemen speaking english is a joke... no creativity whatsoever...

Subtitles can be a headache sometimes.

Let's face it, the dumb American public isn't ready for anything but the recognisable twang of a US accent.

Even British movies have to have subtitles when released in the US. Such as The Full Monty, for instance.

This is, I assume, why in space series such as Star Trek, all the aliens speak in American English complete with accents.

I think you were expecting a bit much for dumb America to cope with a made-up prehistoric language if they can't even cope with British English.

Emmerich hasn't made a good movie since ID4 and The Patriot which was 8 years ago. Outside of that, he rather sucks.

Yeah I agree... but seriously... from the trailers it looked like that civilization was more advance than the Egyptians.... that structure rivaled ancient middle eastern and new world civs... so at the very least... get the damn date right... but with this average director what can you expect? Didn't even bother watching Day After Tomorrow... The Patriot was weak as hell... and Ind. Day was fifty years ago it seems.

Piss off, you bloody knobhead. I've been to England and I've been to Italy, you know what I learn that both cultures don't bother with movies outside of there own frickin film industries and US films. Christ don't get all ****in high and mighty because US audiences going to a cheesy popcorn film don't want bother reading subtitles. Don't call my country dumb when English TV is littered with programs 10X more ******ed than anything American TV has put out.

P.S. If your from America then trying traveling outside it since you have a fabricated reality of what its really like out there.

And you realize this is the country that made Meet the Spartans nuber 1 at the box office that weekend right? Sorry but the loud mouth isn't helping your case... the numbers speak for themselves... the kids these days are dumbasses in America... we simply go see the movies give us the d*** raising experiences... and I probably happen to be one of them.:csad: ... although I don't see crap films in cinemaplexes anymore with the internet and all...

There's nothing worst than elitists who don't really place things in context at all. First off let's review the weekend that Meet the Spartans came out and how many theaters it was released in. It was released to a HIGH SATURATION theater count of 2,600 theaters. Its two other competitor that weekend was Rambo and Untraceable. Rambo appeals to a very distinct demographic of males and older gentleman so right off the bat the demographics are quite different. Untraceable had a rather scant marketing campaign and again wasn't really that appealing to the general demographic that goes the movies on the weekends which are teenagers. Its only real competition from the previous week was 27 Dresses and Cloverfield. Cloverfield weak WOM hurt that as well as the fact that 27 Dresses is such an obvious generic chick flick. So surveying the field the only new straight comedy in weeks comes out with a HUGE marketing campaign that appeals to Teenager is number 1, BIG SURPRISE.

What people also fail to realize is that weekend was down 11% the previous weekend had made 40-50 MIL MORE meaning theater attendance was down. Then if you follow the next weekend Meet the Spartans dropped 60%, BIG SURPRISE. So your argument had you placed in in perspective means really nothing and is no where near a strong incitement on the American people's intelligence.

Well, stylised reworkings of historical periods and events with huge inaccuracies have been happening for ever. Most recently in '300' and Beowulf. And of course One Million Years BC, which sounds almost like the inspiration for this movie, was completely inaccurate. Didn't stop it being a Harryhausen classic of its time though and still great to watch!

I want to see this movie for sure, but it's mainly for the creatures, visuals, and effects rather than for prehistoric character drama. Yes, i know that's shallow and I should go away and whip myself, but as long as the story isn't ridiculous, I'm happy to accept the fantasy/inaccuracy element.

But not in all instances. I felt Beowulf suffered from being an over-stylised fantasy retelling; an attempt to cash in on 300 that failed, largely because Neil Gaiman can't write likable characters.

I was interested in this initially, but then I found out who the director was.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying something that suppose to be entertaining.

Dear me, someone does get easily riled.

America does come across as pretty dumb at times. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone had to be retitled 'Sorcerer's Stone' because Americans kept wanting to know who the philosopher was. :hehe:

For the record, I'm English and have often been to the US and have many friends there.

The fact remains that subtitled movies put people off, unfortunately; and that the American public seems unable to cope with anything but American English with accents. Some alien races with alien languages would be excellent in Star Trek but 50 years on, I'm still waiting. American movies do quite well beyond the States, even though Hollywood's film output is less than a single per cent of the world's films. But films from other countries don't do well in America and films not set in a major American city (Stardust, Golden Compass, V for Vendetta) don't tend to do well in the US either. The Cloverfield creature just happened to attack NY and bite the head off Ms Liberty, the last man on earth happened to be in New York too (unlikely though that scenario is) in I Am Legend. At least the Fantastic Four ended up in London, and Jumper's teleportations did cover more of the world than is usual in these movies! :woot:

We can go through examples and the corresponding numbers, statistics, dempgraphics, competition, etc all day... the list never ends... but that's not the issue here... we also shouldn't be discussing American intelligence based on their tastes in films... but I only brought that up because I think there is something telling about that when you look at the films these days... the point I was making in the first place... its why can't films go back to the seriousness and the sincerity that historical set pieces once were... instead we get completely historically inaccurate films like 300 (although that was Miller's book so I give it a pass), a plethera of cheap horrors... ridiculous spoof films... when is enough enough? Yet people continue to go... when are we going to raise our standards? So speaking for me personally... I am not going to lower my standards to what I assume is an orignal screenplay with a suspect director as of late on what is a completely inaccurate portrayal of the time back then... people might want to dish out the eight bucks for the mamouths and sabertooths... but the CGI is not much better than what you see on Discovery if you ask me... I thought Mel gave us something unique with Apocalypto... it just wasn't executed right... but studios know anyway that films like that won't make jack sh:t at the box office... but frankly... I personally am tired of the CGI fests and the animals alone won't dupe me into buying a ticket for 10,000 BC.
