10 most depressing movie endings ever

Donnie Darko sucked.

First Blood was quite depressing. And Brotherhood (Korean film). Good films.

Donnie Darko was an excellent film, how come you think it sucked?

No Sophie's Choice? Love Story? Casablanca? Old Yeller? Dr. Strangeglove? There were many better choices then the ones on this list. Was the list only meant to cover scifi/fantasy/horror?

Doubt it.

Elephant man isn't horror/fantasy/sci-fi
NEither is Dead Ringers

A.I. in general is a depressing movie.

I disliked the ending to A.I, one of the many reasons that movie just didn't work.

Im gonna have to go with Mystic River for my contribution,..sure the hell made me never want to go to Boston.

I thought that after Gone Baby Gone. Plus the ending depressed the hell out of me.

I didn't think the end of Atonement was depressing. The depressing part was over and done with early in the movie, and this was all she could give them to atone for herself...she'd spent her lifetime realizing what a terrible thing she'd done.

The Champ has been on HBO a lot lately. If you don't at least get a little misty eyed at that ending, you must be emotionally crippled.

Donnie Darko
The Mist
The Fly
Requiem for a Dream
Phantom of the Opera

The end of "Spiderman 3". Worst of the franchise...depressing that I wasted nine dollars and two hours of my life I'll never get back.

The ending to Schindler's List is kinda depressing in a bittersweet way when Oskar Schindler starts crying saying he could have done alot more. The constant violin playing doesn't help matters.

I thought Munich had a depressing ending as well.

Arlington Road, though that was more to showcase how the terrorists don't always get their comeuppance in the end.

Most horror movies try to make their endings sad by a final scene of the monster coming back to life, or if it's some remake of an asian horror flick, the ghosts/demons never are defeated and just keep murdering the populace until everyone is dead apparantly.

the ending of the movie wasn't depressing the ending was the best part, it meant the movie was over and I could leave and sneak into something better (i didn't though, just went home and watch some better movies).

Unbreakable is on this list to me. Just the scene where Sam Jackson comes clean after you like him, in a way heartbreaking for both his character and Bruce Willis' whom Jackson was mentoring.

Yeah, but Unbreakable didn't have hugely depressing ending it was messed up but I wouldn't call it depresing

No Country For Old Men

Just because it had too many lose ends. I prefer my films to have some sort of conclusion. Screw social commentary.

it had too many loose ends so it's depressing, I thought it was depressing because
the main character and his wife are killed.

It is to me. Bruce Willis has just embraced his gift and looks to share his expierence with Sam Jackson (whom he likes and credits with helping him with this self discovery) and then finds out the price that was paid to make that self-discovery. Not only that, the person who's shared this journey with him is a homicidal maniac.
