10 most depressing movie endings ever

Broken, (the little known Misery/Saw wannabe, not whatever "Broken" it is with Heather Graham) had a good depressing ending.

Midnight Cowboy
One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
The Wolfman
Bride Of Frankenstein
Easy Rider
Godfather Part 2
Five Easy Pieces

That list is missing a lot of sad movies...

American History X ( :csad: )
Requiem for a Dream ("I love you Harry" :csad: ...how sad was that?...talk about depressing)
Forest Gump (Jenny..)
Million Dollar Baby
Sophie's Choice
Edward Scissorhands

Btw, someone mentioned how all the charecters in Requiem deserved it since they were junkies....I disagree. I think Ellen's charecter just had really bad luck, thats something that can happen to anyone who is lonely. Btw, I think the Mist had a really sad ending.

Unbreakable is on this list to me. Just the scene where Sam Jackson comes clean after you like him, in a way heartbreaking for both his character and Bruce Willis' whom Jackson was mentoring.

I thought it was a much better movie than the six sense. Scenes such as were he is just standing there getting visions by passers is awesome, it didn't seem so reliant on the plot twist.

Maybe you were right but then they all had problems they didn't even have to do with drugs, most of it was because of drugs but not all of it.

One that hasn't been said is I am Legend. The part where he had to kill his dog...

I can't even think about it. I went home that night after watching that show and hugged both my puppies. :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

I was glad with the ending, the alternate version is crap because they should've just killed off Neville in both and just kept the dog alive instead. I didn't mind in 'I Am Legend' where Neville gives the Dark Seeker back his mate but... it just didn't cut it for me.
Some additions I'd make would be: 'Cloverfield', 'Gone Baby Gone', 'Mystic River' and a few others that I can't name as of now.

Million Dollar baby was pretty sad. No doubt.

I agree.

Depressing ending? Really?

I'd say it had more of a depressing beginning...At least in the end he went to heaven, instead of being stuck in limbo for eternity.

Depressing mainly because she was still alone and he wasn't with her physically. It was just sad to see him leave the life and go into eternity knowing that he was gone forever, you know?

It's one of those movies that got everything right. Comedy, suspense, drama, and great acting. Patrick, Whoopi, and Goldwyn were great in their roles.

I didn't think it was a depressing ending. Sad, definitely. But they got to say goodbye and she knew he was all right, which helped her find closure and they both could move on.

Thought I'd already posted in this thread, but o,well...

The Mist
Titanic
King Kong
Million Dollar Baby
The Return of the Jedi(Vader dying)
The Green Mile
Lord of the Rings:Fellowship of the Ring(gandolf falling)
Lord of the Rings:Return of the King(frodo leaving)

Those are what I can think off top of my head..Gotta say for some reason the Return of the King/frodo leaving was a tear jerker for me..guess it was the idea of him leaving his friends with all the things they been through together....

I saw someone on the first page saying how "Requiem for a Dream isn't sad because they're junkies and they deserved it"

For me, the saddest part of that movie was Ellen Burstyn's character (the mother). Her whole performance was just moving, especially the speech she gives in the kitchen. The part at the end when it shows her at the home laying on the bed and she is thinking of the future her son could have had, and you're just left with this horrible and depressing feeling on how drugs not only ruined his life but also hers.

That movie is absolutely amazing.

Don't watch it unless you've seen the movie, but you can't tell me that ending isn't both amazing and depressing and just wow, all the actors and actresses are SUPERB.

I've already explained this someone just said the same thing as you

The Mist had such a messed up ending that it didn't match the whole film watsoever, it was confusing and felt out of place
