I just realized today is my 10 year anniversary on Hype. I was the tender age of 18 going on 19 (my B-day is on the 24th) and after months of lurking I decided to sign up to defend the Spider-Man film from the individuals who did not share my enthusiasm for it and to just generally talk about how much I loved it. At the time I was also a huge M.Night fan so I SEE SPIDEY is the name I came up with. I don't know if I would have picked such a gender neutral name if I could go back in time because I'm tired of everyone assuming that I'm a dude but whatever.
I've chatted and if I'm being completely honest shamelessly flirted with many a poster on here. I've clashed with and befriended quite a few people on here as well. I've tried to quit this place many times but I just keep coming back for more. It's a mystery actually.
When I first came here Sam Raimi and Bryan Singer were the king directors of comicbook films and during the rise of Nolan and Whedon of course. I've seen how fickle and fleeting fanboy love can be so I now look out for the fall from grace even before the ascension. I was a terrible, terrible poster at first but I eventually became one worth while, at least I think I did. I'm still super passionate and sincere but in smarter ways...mostly, I'm not perfect.
I still suck at spelling but hooray for spellcheck and just being a little bit better at it. I'd say I've grown as a person and know myself better. Others differing opinions don't bother me as much as they use to. I'm still right but I can hear you out without pulling out my hair.
I often hate this place but I adore it as well because I've talked to some super awesome folks. I may have signed up to talk about a film but I stayed to talk about films. My love of cinema grew over the years from talking about it with you guys, my insight into film grew because of the conversations and arguments I've had on here.
I've really do hate the knee jerk "hate or love" reaction fanboy crap at this point and the uber crazy Nolan fanboys but I love this place overall. I've enjoyed these ten years of craziness and here's to ten more.
Are there any other oldbies or posters who have been on here for 4 or 5 years feeling as reflective and nostalgic as I am?
EDIT: And I just realized that I mispelled "frustrations." So yeah I still suck at spelling.
