Same premise as the '89 and '99 threads, select your favourite movie from this year on it's 10th anniversary. I'm going to have to give it some thought as there's not a standout for me unlike with '89 or '99.

:hmm

Been waiting on this for days mate lol

Hard to pick one single movie since I liked different movies for different reasons. Avatar for the spectacle, the first movie I saw in 3D. In terms of story though I probably prefer Up, The Hurt Locker and Moon. And Inglorious Basterds for Christoph Waltz alone.

Watchmen and Star Trek without requiring a moment's thought in terms of 'genre', Films of the year, quite easily. More investigation and recommends coming....., the only film on level of my love and appreciation for is Up. God I love Up, that introduction first 15 minutes or so, best level emotional whollop in cinematic history.

Recommendations / other choices....

Brightstar, Trick r Treat, Invictus, The Box, The Damned United, Public Enemies, Drag me to Hell and Terminator Salvation.

The Damned United, is damn good. A nice little gem that people forget. Same with Drag Me to Hell.

I'm glad you mentioned Terminator Salvation, I know it has it's flaws but I like a lot of it and it's on my short list to pick even though I know I'm gonna catch flack for it. :funny:

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, hands down.

Kidding, of course. :oldrazz:

For me, there was a time when I would have said Avatar. Visually it's spectacular and it's probably tied for second with District 9 and Up. But I might have to give it to Inglourious Basterds. Unlike Avatar, I have never grown tired of it through the years.

Another good film from that year that got unfairly panned imo is Law Abiding Citizen.

I loved Law Abiding Citizen, Avatar's obviously gotta be up there being the biggest movie of all time & Invictus is under appreciated IMO.

While I did enjoy Avatar is did very much have a Pocahontas with blue people feeling lol.

My friend hated it lol he really can't fathom how it made that much money tried to explain to him it wasn't just a movie it was an event sort of the first real 3D movie.

"I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul" still love that line. Yeah Damon & Freeman were both outstanding.

It took me a bit of time as I am undecided on what to pick, but in the end I decided to make the thread and see what others thought while I ponder. :D

Avatar is bobbins, plain & simple.

Finally made my choice, gonna list the top 3, unlike with '89 and '99 these are films I like rather than love.

Not seen the RDJ Sherlock films, because the arrogance ménage of Law, RDJ and Ritchie, I don't think I can cope with.

As someone that has read all of the books, loves the Jeremy Brett TV adaptions and enjoys the Basil Rathbone movies that were somewhat removed from the books, I was skeptical about the RDJ version, however I found it a lot of fun if you kind of take it an elseworlds Sherlock Holmes, a bit like the Rathbone Holmes movies in fairness.

Great avvy btw.

For some reason, I completely forgot that Guy Ritchie directed the RDJ Sherlock Holmes movies.

1) I too love all that you mention, and have my leather-bound collection of the original novels but something tells me and I'm usually right with my film-gut, that I won't like them, so with respect my friend, I'll by-pass them if you don't mind.

2) Thanks on avvy, I was wondering what next, the Shazam head-less joke had run it's cause, so went with a wee bit of Marty.

I get it, if you're not a fan of RDJ then you probably wont like it as like with post-Jack Sparrow Depp, RDJ tends to infuse his characters with a lot of his own humour.

I was looking through the 2009 releases and there were several films I had high hopes for that didn't deliver but a few smaller ones like State of Play, Crazy Heart and Up in the Air that I really enjoyed.

You can never go wrong with Back to the Future.

That Gif's from the first Fast & The Furious, not the 4th one in 2009?

Yeah, it's from the race at the very end with Brian & Dom.

I loved the 1st 2 films of the series, a lot more grounded than the last 2 or 3 of them.
