Engadget:
-65nm
-Reduced the power usage to around 135 Watts from 200 Watts.
-Runs cooler and quieter
-Smaller heat pipe

-PS2 hardware was located on the left side of the motherboard.
-Board width is approximately 15% shorter in the 65nm version.

But it's teh sexy 65nm production! :csad:

OR YOU CAN GET AN 80GIG PS3 WHICH STILL HAS BC, I THINK PEOPLE TEND TO FORGET OR IGNORE THAT FACT,:o YEAH IT'S NOT AS COMPREHENSIVE AS THE 60GIG, BUT IT DOES STILL HAVE IT!!!:D:up:

I don't understand why people seem to always forget that they're still using the system now, so why pay an extra hundred bucks for a system you already have that also costs 100 bucks...

Oh, of course! I'll just get a millon bucks or whatever the hell this thing costs from my uber-invincible magical wallet! :cmad:

Wait, the 60GB one is BETTER than the 80GB?

Too many choices, each with its own faults that can limit how well it does. Not necessarily a good idea.

399 is more important then BC at this point.

And teh added Anti Aliasing.

Track down a 60 gig, some places are selling them at 399.

Its not more important at this point because at this point there really still aren't a whole lot of great games for the PS3.

I have my PS2 alongside my PS3. Its not that big of a deal to use both of them

I'm talking about people who are still waiting to buy a PS3.

But it's certainly a lot more convenient to have a 2-in-1 console instead of 2 different ones, especially for those who already have 1 or more next-gen consoles. Saves space and less tangled wire hassles to deal with.

I wasnt responding to you but just the whole b-tching about the 40gb in general

Definetly but people b-tch about it like its some impossible situation like they will never be able to play PS2 games anymore. Sure it may not be as convenient but it is manageable

the 60 gig has the PS2 CPU and GPU, the 80 gig removed the CPU and emulated it with CELL. The compatibility isn't perfect, but it's very good and constantly being updated.

So let's say I haven't bought a PS3 yet...can you list in order from "Yeah!" to "Blah" in descending order which of the many versions I should get?

60G(while they last), 80G, 40G. But are you like me in that you have a bunch of PS2 games? I'm gonna have to go with the 80G, cuz the earliest I'm getting a PS3 is March, but I want to play the hell out of my PS2 games. I'll still go back to GOW and RE4 later down the line, so bc would be nice.

Get an 80G if you want bc AND you like racing games, cuz Motorstorm is the ****.

Go with the 60G if you don't like racing games all that much, need/want bc. It's $500, but they stopped production a while back, so this Christmas is the last you'll see of them.

If you don't have a PS2 and/or you don't want to go back to the last generation, then the 40G would be your best bet. Also a great choice if you're low on money. I might get this and keep my PS2, cuz no one will buy the first PS2 for much more than $50, so what's the point of selling?

I have PS2 games, tons...I'm not a HUGE fan of racing games...but I was into NFSU...any better reasons? I'm willing to spend at least $600...doesn't seem like any version goes beyond $500 however.

The 60gb and the 80gb retail for the same price. Sony didnt give the 60gb a price drop when it dropped the 80gb so they are both $499. Instead they left it to the retailers to figure that out. Most have instead decided to do bundles, like get a free controller or game with a 60gb purchase. If I didnt have a system, I would just get the 80gb since at teh same price, BC aside, it has 20 extra gb of space but if you were planning on replacing the harddrive eventually anyway, then this shouldnt matter. I wouldnt really say one version is better than the other so its hard to recomment one

So from the 60gig to 80gig they went from perfect BC to emulated 360-ish BC? whiskey tango foxtrot??

I wouldnt call the 60gb perfect BC, but its close. There are still a few games here and there that might have issues but not many. Part of the 80gb is emulated and part of it is hardware. Its reported to be about 80% BC with PS2 titles. Sony actually has a database on the Playstation website which lists titles that may have issues. Anyone can (and should) always check that out before purchasing a system to feel out which one is best for you based on the games you own
