Is that the same old controller?

The basic design of the Playstation controller is the same as the dualshock but it is a little different. The new controller(called SixAxis) no longer has rumble but has tilt motion sensitivity, deeper L2 and R2 buttons that are more trigger-like, no more analog button in the middle, it has been replaced with a PS icon, 4 LED buttons, USB thingy for charging the battery, and the analog sticks have more movement. The buttons are still pressure sensitive

How many controllers are can be used with the system? Are they wireless? I don't want wires and that chunky multitap in the way. Do they use batteries also?

Don't worry my friend, the PS3 has bluetooth controllers, which enables it to use 7 controllers which are wireless and wired via USB. You can use the USB port on the PS3 controller to charge it when it runs low or dies. The controller is said to last around 24 hours

Which games use that many controllers?

No games have been confirmed to use that many yet. But I’m guessing games like Smackdown and Sports games will use over 4 people.

Are the rumors about the PS3 not being able to play used, rented, or borrowed games true?

Sony has confirmed that rumor to not be true.

Is the PS3 backwards compatible, like the PS2?

As you can see in the specs section, it can play DVD-ROMs and CD-ROMs, which means it can play or PS1 and ps2 games. But it will not enhance the quality of those PS1 and PS2 games.

don't like the PS3 or Sony, can/should I troll?

If you don't like it, you shouldn't be here. And if you make an obvious troll topic, you have the IQ of an ant.

If I get the 20GB version, will I be able to upgrade it to be like the 60GB version?

Yes You can add the memory stick/card reader, upgrade the hard drive, and wifi adapter anytime you want.

How much does online cost?
Sony has confirmed that on line is free. What we still don't know is what will be free, what on line games are like, and what things we can do.

So, How is the online?
Ok well the name of the ps3’s online service is the “Playstation Network Platform”

It will have these features:

Communication/Community:
Account created through user registration
Lobbies/Matchmaking
Scores/Ranking
Game data upload/download
Presence/Friend List/Avatar (Games may also choose to use their own individual friends list)
Voice/Video Chat
Messaging

Commerce:
Shops (can be accessed from inside games)
Content Download
Game boot from HDD
Subscription
Selling item by item
Micropayment
Entitlement Management

Account:
User Registration
Single Login ID/Handlename issue

And don’t forget about playing games :)
We don’t know how good this system will be though

If I get the 20GB version, does that mean I have to buy the wifi adapter to get on line?

Don't worry about on line on the 20GB version if you have the right cables and they can reach your system. The PS3 has an Ethernet port (seen in one of the pics) that allows you to connect your cables to your modem/computer. If you can reach them then it shouldn't be a problem. The port is built into the 20GB and 60GB versions, so you can use cables if you want.

I heard the PS3 has an OS like a regular computer what kind is it?

Playstation 3 will eventually come with Linux pre-installed. But the launch PS3’s do not have Linux. You can also install other OS’s in the menu OS’s are used by Sony to encourage homebrew games.

How much are games?
Well as of now, the Sony First party games are $59.99, but third party games are up to the developers.

Will Sony have something like achievement points?

Yes they have something called entitlement points. Whether this is copying or not is up to you, just know that neither me or Sony really cares.

Does Sony have a download service/VC?

In truth not much is known about their on line plans other than the fact that they're allowing homebrew to be used on the system.

What’s this with speeding up load times?

Apparently, some games will allow you to save a portion on the Hard Drive to make the load times slower. Not sure how many games, or the average amount of space taken up will be, but this is optional.

How will the PSP be used with the PS3?

The PSP can be used as a controller for the PS3 and to transfer “content” between the two. It also can be used for other things invented by game developers i.e. in formula one it can be used as a rearview mirror.

I heard that PS3 games will be regional free, is that true?

Yes, European, North American, and Japanese discs are all one region now.

Ok a question no-one has answered for me... but thats probably because its either already been answered or is just too dumb of a question... oh well lol Well ummm Will there be 4 controllers or 7? some sites say 4 while others say 4 wireless and 4 connected...

The PS3 controllers use Bluetooth, that means it can support up to 7 controllers. The problem why it can only get 7 is because the PS3 acts as a bluetooth hub, which counts as one controller. So you can only use up to 7.You plug in 4 and can use 3 wirelessly.

How will the controller recharge? I know there's a USB port at the top. I highly doubt the thing uses batteries because I don’t see where you would put them.

You plug it into the USB and the PS3 will charge it back up, which will probably happen a lot because the controller only has a 24 hour battery life, a lot less than the 300 hours of the 360 but you can charge the ps3’s controller up so it evens out.^_^

If you have a few PS2 games (like 5), can you just upload them onto the PS3 and play those games without the DVD being inside of it? On a 60GB HD of course.

Absolutely not. Sony is against piracy and is supporting BD for that reason among others.

I want to make a topic about the Wii…

Then go here:
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gentopic.php?board=930752

Can you keep your save files from ps1/ps2 games?

Yes, Sony has confirmed that you will need to use an adaptor to transfer your memory card data to the Playstation 3 hard drive.

Taken directly from the ps3 site:
To use saved data on a Playstation 2 memory card, you must copy the data onto a virtual memory card within the hard disk. This requires a PS2/PSone memory card adaptor to copy the data to your PLAYSTATION 3. Am memory card adaptor is designed to edit, up/download game saves to and from EMS flas card or smart media card.

Are all games on Blu-ray?

Sony has said that all of their games will use Blu-ray format.

The PS3 uses a lot of power, I bet it’s gonna be loud as a mutha!

Not really, it has heat pipes and things so its going to make as much noise as a slim line ps2.

Is it overpriced?

Actually no it’s not Blu-ray players cost $1000-$1800 and the ps3 costs less than that also its said they ps3 cost around $900 to make so if you don’t like it don’t buy it more for the people who want one.

--------------------------------------------------------------

so i hope this answers most of the things you didnt know, yes thats quite a long read. but itl be worth it to read up on this before you buy your very own system.

This spec sheet is not 100% acurate, so who ever made this, needs to fix some things, if you notcie something tell me and ill change it.

Uncertain Titles (may be multi-platform):

+Assassin's Creed
+Heavy Rain
+Mercenaries 2: World in Flames
+Need for Speed: Carbon

That must have been written up a while back. Not much uncertainty with some of those.

^ thanx for noticing that part, i didnt see it before.
