6.06 Fallout - Discussion Thread (Spoilers)

Not to speak for B8 I think the line for a shoe was just a through away line about how it's kinda of funny that these kids are clearly living below the property line yet are able to afford nice new shoes, which is unrealistic but common on TV.

He may also be talking about product placement.

Actually, you are correct MJD. It was a throwaway line, and I was mostly making fun of how tv portrays people who are supposed to be of little means.

Plus, the beginning really made me think of how they do Nike/Reebok commercials. I was just poking fun at the silliness of tv execs, no offense was meant to be taken. I meant nothing more by it.

Tv just has a strange way of showing people who are supposed to be below the poverty line. Example being farmers of little means driving brand new trucks every week after the last one exploded/got tore up/ ect ect.

If anyone was offended by that comment, it was meant as a poke at the tv world...that's all.

i figured thats what it was, the reason i brought it up was because you asked for feedback. i thought some people might interpret it wronglly. but i honestly didnt think it was intended to be bad.

I always appreciate the feedback, any and all.

I try to avoid saying anything that I think will offend people, and don't want anything in my writing that would do the same thing.

Thanks for bringing it up though Boomster.

i absolutely dont think B8 meant anything bad by it. that's why i said "concern" and "inadvertently."

Anyone who redas his posts know that. I wasn't trying to make it sound like I was accusing you of accusing him of anything. If that makes sense

I think the problem is B8, you made the automatic assumption that they were below the poverty line, simply because the characters were playing in what looked like a dingy abandoned lot. That's not a lot to go by in making that kind of assumption. That's all.

But that's claerly their neighbourhood, you don't enter a lot like that unless it is, it's dangerous. Plus didn't bow wow say something like "Naw man I got to study" now call me a racist or whatever but the makes me immediately think of a good black kid trying to get out of the ghetto.

I think B8 had a lot to go on when making his assumption.

you'd actually be surprised.

When I saw fresh out of law school (and still actually motivated) I started out doing some public interest stuff for people who couldnt afford competent legal representation. And some of my clients who were living in poverty had nicer sneakers and cell phones than I did. I saw a lot of misplaced priorities.

Well not to sound like a prick all anything, but was it because of those nice shoe's and phones that they needed legal representation?

I didn't think the assumption was too far stretched. I think the producers were trying to show a couple of kids who lived in a broken down neighborhood.

I seriously didn't mean anything serious by it though, and I apologize if it offended you Cmill, you've seen my posts, you know I try to avoid that sort of thing.

Thanks for backing me up MJD, and Boomster, I didn't think you were accusing me of anything.:yay:

Howdy guys, here is my Fallout review for those who want to read it.:woot:

Finally read this, B8.
I also like the new format you are using - with a bit of re-capping along with some analysis and opinion - but nicely divided according to storyline.
I have some quibbles with your use of semicolons and some of your wording choices... but much of that is subjectively acceptable. I'm just a quibbler when I'm not being lazy (like in my own posts) - just ask around. ;)

Are you able to define your section titles with bolding, or caps, or even italics? Having them in regular sentence form, sans periods but with apostrophes, doesn't really look right to me.

And the "What-El" line totally cracked me up too. :D

Thanks Rene,:woot:

You know, when I send them in, I put the section titles in bold, but when they get posted onto the site, they take off the bold. I'm not sure as to why, but for some reason, they don't keep those section titles bold.

I haven't asked yet as to why that is.

the thing about the punctuation, MS Word pretty much lets me know when I put the wrong comma ect ect in the wrong place, so it should be correct punctuation wise.:ninja:

I don't really understand why, but the formatting on that site is totally FUBAR when I look at it in IE. I have to use Mozilla, and even then the font is ridiculously huge. I don't have that problem with any other site. It's strange.

I think you have to be a little vigilante with the punctuation corrections in Word. Just like the spelling correction can overlook a properly spelled word that is still an inappropriate word -- "through" rather than "threw" -- the punctuation corrections can certainly drop the ball once in a while. You have a lot more play with comma placements than you do with semicolons and colons: the useage rules for those are much more defined. Granted, the "rules" in journalistic writings are a lot more lax in general as opposed to academic writing.
Btw, it's "etc," not "ect."--common mistake.

Can you tell I've already had way too much coffee this morning? :wow: :hyper:
