A child was admitted to hospital with a drink problem – at the age of just SIX.

The youngster, who has not been identified, was one of nearly 175 underage drinkers treated at Hull Royal Infirmary last year for drink-related illnesses.

The six-year-old joins a host of other young boozers who were treated for problems including acute alcohol excess, acute alcohol intoxication, alcohol withdrawal and alcoholism by the hospital.

The figures were released in a report into the drinking habits of people aged 25 and under in the area by Hull Citysafe – a council partnership.

Almost 500 people within that age group were quizzed about their alcohol drinking habits in the survey.

The findings also reveal that up to 95 per cent of those questioned are drinking at a level regarded as harmful and more than a fifth of underage drinkers are bought alcohol by their parents.

Wendy Richardson, director of public health in Hull, said: "I can't comment on individual cases, but I'm shocked as any responsible person would be.”

The responsibility lies completely on the parents . On a lighter note , when he turns 21 he may be too old to drink.

Son, I think you've had enough.

Don't-don't you..tell me when I'VE had enough...YOU'VE had enough.....enough of my boogers...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA...BLARRRRGH! Mommy.....:csad:

Seriously, I don't drink myself, and I know that sheltering the kiddies is never the way to go when it comes to liquor, but something is up in this case.

They don't know when to say when, moderation kids, moderation. I loved the taste of beer at an early age, we won't go there.

ewww my grandma gave me a taste of beer when I was really young..... like 6-7.

I hated the taste of beer and didn't drink again until it was legal......
my first drink at leagal drinking age was Baileys and Cream *drool*

How is that possible ? The parents, if there even are any there half the time, have go to just leave it around or something...

I picture these alcohol losers not paying attention to their kid, but when he starts raiding the liquor you would think that might get their undivided attention.

I didnt even know about alcohol at age 6

I knew about it because I had some relatives that drank. They learned quickly to put it up when I was around because I had a habit of pouring it out when no one was looking. I didn't like how it made people act so I got rid of it. Seemed perfectly rational to me.:woot:

Can...can't...I...W...wu...watch...Teletubies...and have a DRINK!!!

Maybe his mam drank a lot when she was in the breast-feeding stage . . .

I wouldn't be surprised if she drank during pregnancy and while breast feeding. Any parents who would let their kid become an alcoholic clearly aren't bastions of responsibility.

This kid's following the same path that brought me to greatness. It's better to work on your tolerance for alcohol at a younger age so you can impress your friend's more when you get into Middle School and can chug a couple bottles of Vodka no problem.

Either that or make sure you've got some coke at hand ;)

I couldn't stand drink and didn't touch a drop till I was 18. I'm 23 and have the alcohol power of 10 men without even trying. I rarely get drunk and it now costs too much to even bother.

That said, welcome to England, the home of underage drink, sex, bad parenting and relaxed laws/enforcement. If I wasn't such a stiff and had morals, I'd be in an overpriced paradise.

Same here except I'm 29 and I've been drinking regularly since 16 or 17. I now take 2-3 months off every now and again to try and get my tolerance back down. It works to some degree but not much. I prefer drinking at home or a friend's house as it is much cheaper than even attempting to get some sort of buzz at a bar with their little cups and high prices.

Good job, parents. Now you get the chance to blame it on tv or videogames, it's your choice.
