"SUNDAY AM: The Spartans conquered U.S. box office this weekend. I'm told Warner Bros.' much-buzzed 300 about the epic Battle of Thermopylae shattered the record for biggest March opening ever with its $68+ million stampede. This "Gladiator Lite" raked in $27.7 million Friday and $24.3 mil Saturday (-12%) and an estimated $16 mil Sunday from its 3,103 theaters."

I'm actually surprised it did that. I was expecting Sin City type numbers, because it was basically so stylized, it's not a well known property and well..released in March. If any blockbusters this summer can hit that, they'll be glad.

My god, this is some crazy stuff. I expected this film to top off around 110 million max, but it looks to top that quite soon.

Interesting to see what it'll do next weekend, to see if it has some legs.

so, in one weekend without a holiday, it made back it's budget. Thats kick a$$!

That's what a great and entertaining movie will get you. Great job by those guys and congrats to them.

Calling it "Gladiator-lite" is really just shows how people look down their nose on the Genre, even though it dominates the box office.

Besides, the action in 300 makes Gladiator seem like the lite side of the equation IMO.

I agree completely.

That's what happens when you put out quality material that has been marketed brilliantly and constantly. I must admit that I wasn't expecting much over 35 million this weekend.

I personally wanted it to outshine Ghost Rider for dumb reason, but this is great for Zack. After this I have complete confidence this dude got the true talent. Watchmen should very well be a treat.

To hell with those studio exes who say that an R rated film can't do this good. This numbers are crazy........70 Million?............

THIS IS MADNESS!

When I saw the numbers earlier today, my face was literally: :wow:

yeah

i was even gonna add the quote "300 will make Troy look like the gayest movie ever made" to the review I made.

hehehe

its sad, though, that also among the films showing is Ghost Rider which IMO just reinforces a bad image on comicbook movies regardless of it being a top-grosser

AAAAANYWAY, 300 is doing great, so no problem!

300 is also doing great here in our country, regardless of it not having "popular" stars on it

Im hearing this movie is sold out in some theaters in the USA.Im glad this movie is doing well.

Here is the final numbers for the weekend...$70,025,000 wow that is crazy. I can't believe how well this movie did. I am speechless.

Saw the movie. And, IMO, it was the best movie I've seen since Spider Man! Kudos to Snyder. I'm planning to watch it again this week!

Well I am glad that it has done so well. There were a group of guys at Applebees Saturday night wearing armor and capes and carrying swords...I hope it was because they had contributed to that total. Either way, I am finally going today at 100pm.

I too am glad this movie is doing well. It deserves it, it was so well made. I enjoyed every second of it.

$70m  That's amazing!!!!!!

I can see 300 easily getting to $180m now. It will be first cult movie, which is making so high numbers!!!

Haven't seen it yet, but plan on seeing it sometime soon. My sister asked me yesterday if I saw it, I said no, it's only been out a couple days, she said I definitely needed to see it as soon as possible. If this is the type of word of mouth it's getting the final box office should be pretty freaking big.
