You MUST READ THIS, article on Rothman and his fellow crony at Fox:

http://www.nytimes.com/2006/06/12/business/media/12movie.html?_r=1&oref=login

That depiction made me physically sick. I like the NYT a lot (best paper in the country) but I was very pissed when I read this in the movie section today.

These are the bastards who ruined X-Men 3 and here we have the justification. His attempt at covering up the Bryan Singer fiasco at the end of the article was infuriating. He doesn't mention that he "brought" Singer onto X1 to kill it in 2000 and cut their budget and took 6 months of post-production away from it with a ****ty marketing campaign because he thought the franchise was worthless. Or how in X3 he led Singer around for a year before signing him and completely tries to underplay throwing a creative director off the set (nor mentions he had to be invited back on to direct an episode of House for them).

He ****ing lies through his teeth. This man takes credit for The Day After Tomorrow, Chaper by the Dozen, Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and X3? That bastard. And what he says about supporting and protecting Ridley Scott on Kingdom of Heaven is bull****. It was he who demanded KOH be cut DOWN BY AN HOUR SO THERE'D BE ONE MORE SCREENING A DAY. He was the one who had that movie gutted and ruined it and if he thinks Scott will forget he needs to watch the director's cut special features.

But it all becomes clear now that this is the ******* who put the cure in over the Dark Pheonex Saga and is likely the one Penn hinted at had Cyclops killed off. I think we have someone worthy of termination here (and more than one meaning too).

Why not celebrate Amy Pascal instead? She makes big hits and gives her creative force time. Sam Raimi asks for more money and another year she gives it to him, she doesn't ****ing fire him and tries to beat him to the theaters, demand shorter films or say in the paper how filmmakers have egos that need to be squashed.

The fact that it was this son of a ***** who closed out a potentially hilarious Jay Roach frat pack comedy is just another reason he needs to be....dealt with.

Alas.

Keep living and dying on AICN's idiotic, dishonesty and misinformation fueled fatwas. Them and their ilk (like the hacks at filmthreat) are as much if not bigger a reason for there being no X-4 in the works than every bad decision made by the brass.

Finally I know how that guy looks like....

*packs suitcase*

I'm amazed that he's actually taking credit for the cure storyline in X3.Wasn't that Astonishing X-Men's first arc?

You're right. From Whedon's pen to Rothman's mouth.

i like how they pride themselves on being straight talking no hold bars guys without the hollywood B.S., but when questioned on something potentially contraversial like axing that 'used guys' film, they have no comment.

FOX have enough unnecessary and stupid members, and that sucks

And the way he says he hates "sweet talking" but says he told Bryan to "bury the hatchet and do lunch." Bryan Singer in all liklihood hates his guts as this is the schmuck who tried to sabatoge his first film, tried to piss on him for having creative control on the second film and throws him off the lot for not doing the third and then ruins the franchise he started. But they had a "Hollywood ending" my ass.

And worse yet since X3 opened big they think they did right. How about mentioning that in the end it wil lbarely make anymore than the second because everyone went to see it for liking Singer's movies and when the majority of the audience realized it sucked it sank like a rock at the box office and will probably come in maybe $5 to $10 million more than X2 after the much BIGGER opening and being the event and not having to deal with two monsters back-to-back like X2 did (Bruce Almighty and The Matrix Reloaded).

I really hate this Rothman guy. Sorry.

It took the WB a few Batman Movie Failures & LOTS & LOTS & LOTS of hatred from Fans over the years for the WB to finally wake up & Batman Begins was born. Fans need to stick it to FOXS asses like Batman fans did it at the WB. But that wont happen either

X3 was good.

Except for the fact that it wasn't.

Ok, since it's my opinion, I can't technically call that "fact." But, my opinions are usually right, so I'm gonna stand by it.

Oh, and Rothman sucks.

Say what you want about Fox, but they sure do a lot of money, and in the end of the day, that's the only thing that matters in Hollywood:

Fox First to Cross $1 Billion Overseas
Source: The Hollywood Reporter June 13, 2006

20th Century Fox became the first Hollywood studio this year to hit the $1 billion mark at the overseas box office, thanks to hot performances by Ice Age: The Meltdown and X-Men: The Last Stand, says The Hollywood Reporter.

It is the second year in a row that Fox has led the competition to that milestone, but it accelerated the process in 2006, crossing the 10-figure threshold on Friday.

In 2005, it took Fox International about three-weeks longer, with the studio announcing last July 6 that had reached the billion-dollar benchmark with the help of Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith and Kingdom of Heaven.

This year marks the sixth time that Fox International has crossed the $1 billion barrier.

"The Meltdown" accounted for the biggest slice of Fox's overseas grosses to date. Its international total to date stands at $441 million, more than doubling its domestic gross of $192 million.

The Fox surge picked up more steam with "The Last Stand," which picked up $160.6 million overseas after its first two weekends in release. The film claimed the 10th-biggest opening weekend internationally even though it has yet to debut in such markets as Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China.

Fox's nearest competitor is Sony Pictures. With The Da Vinci Code having sold more than $450 million worth of tickets overseas to date, making it Sony's all-time international hit. Sony's 2006 international box office is cresting at an estimated $811.5 million

Fox is infamous for Bull **** decisions when it comes to TV *cough*Arrested Development*cough* so it doesn't surprise me when it happens on the movie side.

pffffftt.... we shouldn't even start on Fox TV... they've made the worst choices they could possibly have the past few years.

in the last five years, they had some of the best series to grace our screens, but managed to cancel 90% of them without even giving them a full season: Keen Eddie, Wonderfalls, John Doe, Firefly... not to mention Arrested Development, who did get a chance but got screwed around with its schedule. they do that s#!t, and still kept tripe like The Swan around. un-f***ing-forgivable. they may have 24 and Prison Break, but that's like a cherry top on a big s#!tty sundae.

sorry, just had to vent.

How much money do they actually make off of X-men when it cost updwards of $230 million in order to produce?

The key thing I see in that article is that these guys are "lawyers." Yup that about says it all.

What is the deal with this article? It comes off as a biased fluff piece that was written to throw people off from the fact that X-men 3's weekend BO dropoffs were terrible.

The article fails to mention that while X-men 3 might've had the biggest Memorial Day Weekend ever (only because of inflated ticket prices mind you) that the movie had the biggest post Memorial Day Weekend dropoff of all time.

I hate this Rothman guy with all of the passion in my body, and i tell you now, Fox will be lucky if i ever go and see one of their movies again, they can **** off.

20th Century Fox had SW and Titanic as leaders of success, others were just good movies.

But Fox also had enough terrible movies, especially comic books adaptations.

Tom Rothman can go suck a ridiculously large dick.

The thing is, the article ends up being more negative than positive for Rothman and co.

They basically say that:

1-They will force they creative decision on others no matter how bad it is.

2-After incorporating the mutant cure plot in X3, they couldn't think of anything else.

3-They will pull the plug on a movie if they ask for more money or the budget is too high.

4-They don't want to be liked.

5-They care more about publicity then wether they make good movies or not.

Thats pretty much what they did with The Last Stand
