Anyone remember this show? I used to really enjoy it, at least the episodes that featured Freddy in the story anyway.

The pilot episode was awesome, showing Freddy's trial and how he was set free. Although Nightmare On Elm Street purists sometimes argue that what happens in that episode and what Nancy's mom tells her about Freddy in the movie that started it all are totally different. I still think it was cool though.

I wish they would release this on DVD.

You can get bootlegs online. It's surprising that it hasn't officially been released on DVD yet though, as it was officially released on VHS back in the early 90's.

I sure wish it was on DVD!,Good childhood times lol.

I never saw this, but I was a fan of other TV horror serials like 'Tales from the Crypt' and 'Are you afraid of the dark?'. They don't make shows like that anymore (or if they do, they're usually cancelled quickly or just suck). I'll have to check it out. Freddy sure had some *****in' hands. He would have gutted Edward Scissorhands with one claw tied behind his back.

what channel did this use to be on? i remember coming across some commercials every now and then. this was back in like '89/'90

It was in syndication, so it varied from one local affiliate to the next. The documentary "Never Sleep Again" had a segment regarding the show, recounting how depressingly low-budget it was, as well as the criticism it garnered from parent groups, 'cause most of the local affiliates insisted on playing during the daytime on weekends.

Yeah, daytime on weekends isn't a very good time for an adult themed show like this. maybe the channels thought it was more like Tales From The Crypt or The Twilight Zone, and thus more family friendly. I mean, Freddy was reduced to somewhat of a "Crypt Keeper" type host position for most of the episodes. Although that was stupid of them if it were true. I mean watch the damn movies and you'll see that Freddy isn't very child friendly. Hell, he was a child murderer for cryin' out loud!

I don't remember seeing it on weekend afternoons. I do remember it having a fairly late start time. I think it was Friday nights at 10:00 or something. The Scream network should show Freddy's Nightmares in reruns here in Canada. That would be cool.

It's cool seeing people who were unknown then who are now really big stars now. Brad Pitt is in one of the episodes.

So is What's-Her-Name from Law & Order: SVU. She was in the Halloween episode from the first season.

I never saw the show when it originally aired but I did end up watching some on youtube and plan to watch more later.

Even though the first episode didn't perfectly fit the cannon of Freddy's origins in the movies it was interesting to see it in one cohesive start to finish story instead of bits and pieces and flashbacks.

Some episodes were pretty creepy for tv and reminded me of other anthology shows like Twilight Zone (60's and 80s) Tales from the Darkside, and Tales From The Crypt. I was surprised that there usually wasn't a happy ending for the characters...especially since it was television. Nice to see they kept that part from the movies foer the tv show.

I didn't find that too surprising. It's fairly close to how the movies are. Freddy loses, but he always takes his fair share with him. And he always wins more often than not.

Like many...I wish this was on DVD...

...pretty decent...

It surprised me because it was so close on television. Running in syndication vs on a network may have helped but its still television and on tv everything can end up being watered down or changed to appeal toa tv audience.

The Freddys Nightmares show had some pretty bleak endings to episodes but I wouldn't be shocked if some sponsers had wanted some of those bleaker endings softened. I have to give the show credit for staying true to the spirit of the movies in that regard.

Same here.

Bumped, due to the current topic on the Friday The 13th thread.

Tbh, I think it would be awesom if these were released on DVD. Were the later episodes cheesy as all hell? Yes, and they weren't that great, but the pilot episode (directed by Horror legend Tobe Hooper) was awesome.

I remember seeing this in commercials and maybe even an episode or two but it's been such a long time I couldn't tell you anything about it. Do want to see them though.

It's odd that with all the flooding of television shows in DVD we've had over the decade plus some of the most popular or guaranteed sellers never hit the shelves. This could definitely have made some money when they released that Freddy reboot.

I was a HUGE Freddy fanatic back in the late 80's(I still am today)and I never missed an episode of the show. Loved it!
Now when I watch it though it's SO freakin' corny! And Freddy acts like more of a clown in some of the episodes than he ever did in Nightmares 4-6. My favorite is "No more Mr. Nice guy." But I would've really loved to have seen a more realistic, darker prequel story of Krueger with Robert playing the role one last time instead of the remake.
But,as cheesy(and cringe-worthy)as the series was,I do love it. It's part of the Freddy Krueger legacy.

Seeing how Halloween is just around the corner, I figured I would bump this thread and give everyone a few chills & thrills.

Unpleasant Dreams!
