A note from EX! about the FAN ART Contests!

excelsior
i didn't know that some of the old prizes given out were from your own personal collection, that's very cool.

as to the winners not liking the prizes? just be happy there was one to get. if you wanted to revisit the idea of actual prizes in the future, and were worried about this, i'd recommend two different prizes and letting the winning select which one they wanted.

with all the new movies coming out, it'd be cool if one donated some stuff and actually "sponsored" a fan art contest so to speak.

How about having a contest that isn't themed? Draw whatever you please! This way people who only like to draw batman or wolverine can still do so rather than passing. Or something like "Draw your best comic cover? Put up the X-Men logo or the Superman logo at the top of the page, and try and create the best cover you can for that title...I think these a good ideas, rather just shouting out "Draw Batman! or watchmen every month, gets kinda stale.

i guess its cool, but I gotta offer a critique i've given many times before...

In light of the fact that we're heading into summer movie season, and now limiting contests to once every 2 months, I feel like the next 3 or so contests are bound to be tied to movies, like "Terminator" or "Wolverine".

This is only my opinion of course, but I feel more general themes like "heroes out of their prime", "steampunk", "the child of two characters", "heroes/villains in a different era", etc allow for much more creativity, while not limiting the pool of characters to draw from.

When you have a "Wolverine" themed contest, it just seems like we can expect 15 entries, all pictures of Wolverine.

I know I'm more excited to enter and check back and see what people come up with when the theme is less specific.

This is, of course, my personal opinion and I accept others may not share it.

I can get behind that.

IDK if this is the thread for this, but while the topic is up...

What about a "summer-blockbuster-movie-poster-theme?"
--that way the character choices are limitless, but ties in with the summer movie hype... you can even make posters for heroes who haven't made it to the big screens, or your own interpretations of the ones that have, but you love

Or maybe,

Heroes-at-the-beach-theme?
