FAN ART Contests - from EXCELSIOR!

Greetings all,

First off let me apologize for the lack of "official" Fan Art Contests, and for my not being here!

It's been a crazy time for old Excelsior, and frankly I can't keep up with all the activities of SHH. I've been doing the fan art contests almost from day one of the HYPE when I co-founded the site over 10 years ago. I've met tons of very talented artists here on these very boards - the FAN ART thread was my home for many years, but all good things must come to an end!

It is with a heavy heart, I officially end the monthly Fan Art Contests. - At least as far as my involvement that is...

Now, with that said - I would love to end it all with a bang, and then turn the fan art thread over to you all, the artists!

Here's what I propose!
ONE last contest...
Post here what the theme should be, whatever idea gets the most reaction that will be IT!
APRIL 1st will be the start date, deadline will be April 30th.
I promise I will be here for the whole thing, and then after a winner is announced, I will then turn the reins of FAN ART over to you talented guys & gals!

Sorry to hear you wont be doing these things anymore. It was a great ride while it lasted. It doesn't need to be the end of the monthly contests. Just need to find someone willing to put in the extreme amount of time and effort it takes. You've truly been a champ to hold on as long as you did Excel.

We'll do what we can to take what you started and keep up the spirit of the whole thing.

The fan art will not end here - but my day-to-day involvement will.

Maybe what I can do is post a thread the 1st of each month for a contest, that way you all can have a designated thread to post in... More details on that to be worked out me thinks!

Looking forward to seeing the ideas for the final Excelsior FA Contest!

i haven't been on the Fan Art boards in a while but i'm glad i caught this. i can't resist entering the last OFFICIAL contest being hosted by Excelsior. when i was entering these things they were wild and crazy so here's to one last wild and crazy ride!!!

I'm in. I would be really sad about this but when I look at my progress over the last 7 years since i've been posting here I just am happy. The first entry I ever did here was an ancient Roman Batman drawing. Wow, that seems like it was 20 years ago, I definitely and 20 years better now. Thanks in large part to the SHH! Contests.

I would love to participate in this! Too bad I didn't join here 10 years ago. I'm sorry you're leaving, but I'm sure you'll be off to doing bigger and better things As for ideas and themes... hmm.. I'm not really sure, but I'll think about it.

Just wanted to throw a few ideas in as far as the monthly (or bi-monthly) contests go from here. These are just suggestions:
1. Whenever we get the first con going, the winner of that con pick the next subject, then next months winner, and so on.
2. An amount of time would have to be agreed on, I'd say 2, 3 days max for everyone to throw their idea in, then the next 2 days ideas are voted on. Setting a time limit eliminates endless debate resulting in a month going by with people just arguing over the topic.
3. Someone just pick up the ball and host the monthly con. This can also be voted on. I personally would be happy to be far more active here, after all, the art is what I come here for, and some of you are just wicked good. But no art is bad.

I think the contests should continue, I just can't be here day-to-day to watch over them anymore... I will always be here, SHH is a site I co-founded, I ain't going nowhere, just do not have the time to devote to the contests in the way they should!

My hope it that you guys find a way to keep them going... a passing of the torch so to speak!

I am most proud of the many artists who have entered over the years, it has been great to see the talent blossom...

Keep those ideas coming... we should pick something by the end of the week!

We've always had good luck with the FREE FOR ALL contests, maybe we do another one of those?

Maybe since this contest is "for old time's sake" basically, the theme could be...old times? Like Golden/Silver Age stuff.

Then how about Image? Maybe a costume redesign like Supreme or Spawn? Or maybe Superheroes as Greek gods or some other historical/mythical figures?
