TLC Biopic

VH1 is set to release a scripted biopic of one of the best-selling female groups of all time, TLC.

"The reality of this brings me to tears because I am seeing one of my dreams come to life. I always felt our story had to be told," said Chilli, who is executive producing with T-Boz.

The iconic girl group achieved major success with their 1991 debut album Ooooooohhh… On The TLC Tip, which sold over 6 million copies. Their fame escalated with the release of their sophomore effort, 1994's CrazySexyCool, which sold 22 million albums worldwide, making them the most successful female group in history at the time.

However they also hit some lows as the group went through a public bankruptcy suit at the height of their career. T-Boz battled with sickle-cell disease, and Lisa "Lefteye" Lopes died tragically in a 2002 car crash. The film will cover all these major highs and lows.

The TLC story is one of many scripted biopics that Vh1 plans to release, based on the lives of musicians and popular culture icons.

Who you think should be casted for the film? IMO, these 3 actresses are the perfect to play TLC:

Eve as Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins

Raven-Symone as Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes

Keisha Knight-Pulliam as Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas

raven doesn't look like left eye to me at all. but she could maybe pull off the quirky. i could see them going with more unknowns since it is vh1 after all

i wonder if they'll add the bit about Left Eye setting the house on fire

to this day CrazySexyCool is one of my favorite albums

VH1 has found their crazy, sexy, and cool. The network has officially announced the roles of Left Eye, Chilli, and T-Boz in the upcoming TLC biopic Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story.

In the film, KeKe Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee) will portray Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, Lil Mama (“America’s Best Dance Crew”) will take on the role of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Drew Sidora (Step Up, “The Game”) has been cast as Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins.

MC Lyte previously revealed that Lil Mama had landed the role of the late Left Eye. “I’m gonna put a little bit of my concentration and focus on helping to uplift a sister who is talented, smart, witty, and just had her chances cut too short, and that’s Lil Mama ’cause she is a talented young lady,” said Lyte.

The full-length TV movie will explore the Grammy-winning trio’s rise to fame with their 1991 debut Ooooooohhh… On the TLC Tip and 1994’s groundbreaking album CrazySexyCool, which sold more than 22 million albums worldwide and made them one of the most successful female groups of all time.

Charles Stone III (Drumline, Paid in Full) will direct the biopic, which is penned by screenwriter Kate Lanier (Set It Off, Beauty Shop). The film is slated to begin production next month in Atlanta.

i really dunno how i feel about this

TLC was a huuuuge part of my growing up

Not really feeling their casting choices. They should've went for unknown actors.

Aside from Palmer, I don't think I'd consider the other two "known".

Oh man, my CrazySexyCool tape had to be one of my most unexpected possessions.

lil mama i'm familiar with. i do have a drew sidora song on my ipod but only from a movie soundtrack, other than that i've never heard her music

lil mama raps "Lip Gloss". you're welcome lol

I like the director and the writer involved, and of course love TLC. Just watched Paid in Full again two nights ago and was reminded how good of a movie it is. I normally like these VH1 biopics so I'll be watching this one.

TLC Biopic Gets Pebbles, L.A. Reid

Another major role has been filled in the VH1 biopic “Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, actress Rochelle Aytes is signed on to portray singer Peri “Pebbles” Reid, who was instrumental in the trio’s rise to iconic fame.

In real life, Pebbles went platinum in the '80s as an R&B singer with hits like “Girlfriend” and “Mercedes Boy” in heavy rotation on BET. Following this success, she founded Pebbitone, the Atlanta-based production company credited with discovering and developing TLC, who went quadruple platinum with Ooooooohhh ... On the TLC Tip and became the only girl group to receive the RIAA’s Diamond status with the release of their album CrazySexyCool.

Pebbles was also at the center of the group filing bankruptcy, although she denied all claims of mismanaging TLC’s money. Her then husband L.A. Reid reportedly cites the drama of that era as one of the causes of their divorce.

By the end of the '90s, Pebbles founded Women of God Changing Lives Ministries, and in 2008 she released a gospel album, Prophetic Flows Vol I & II.

Along with all of that fodder for character development, Aytes also brings experience from the set of movies “Madea’s Family Reunion” and “White Chicks,” and plenty of guest-starring TV roles (Desperate Housewives, NCIS, Bones, Half & Half and My Wife and Kids). In May, her starring role in the new ABC drama/mystery Mistress is slated to air.

Plus, she’s playing opposite '80s/'90s veteran Carl Payne (Martin, The Cosby Show), who has been tapped to play L.A. Reid.

In the other major roles, it was recently announced that Keke Palmer is signed on as Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas, Lil’ Mama as Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes and Drew Sidora as Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins.

They did. Lil Mama I have heard of, but she's not big in mainstream. Never heard of Drew Sidora.

Keke Palmer is the biggest name of the trio of actresses, and she's not even a huge name in Hollywood (at least not yet anyways. She's only 19 so there's plenty of time). Maybe she becomes the "it" black girl (like Zoe Saldana is now) in ten years.

It's not like it's Rosario Dawson as T-Boz, Zoe Saldana as Chili and Nicki Minaj as Left Eye. It's actresses who are pretty much unknown to mainstream Hollywood (except for maybe Palmer).

Rochelle Aytes is gorgeous. I don't know how I feel about that first pic. The clothes are on point but they barely resemble who they are supposed to. Lil Mama does look like Left eye in her wardrobe though

Doesn't look too bad. I don't think we will be getting any Oscar performances, but don't think it will be bad.

TLC is one of my favorite groups of all time. i'm so glad the original cast in the OP isn't the final cast in the film

I wonder if they're going to show anything on T-Boz's sickle cell anemia, Left Eye burning the house down (from the trailer i think this will be in it) to anything more recent, like Lisa's death, Chili dating Usher, etc.

I was gonna say...didn't one of the members set her exs house on fire. Thanks for clearing it up! It might be alright, VH1 doesn't do that bad of a job usually so hopefully they'll give this group a little recognition. I remember listening to SCRUBS all the time as a kid.

scrubs was out when you were a kid? dang you missed some quality music of theirs then

waterfalls is iconic as it is

Had no idea about this... looks surprisingly alright.

Left Eye burned down the house of former Football Player Andre Rison, one of the most overrated football players ever.

Was it good? Don't tell me specifics I want to be surprised.

I still say, they had the wrong people to play TLC.
