I know nothing can be done but I have to vent so this does NOT happen to you.
a week ago I sold my old PS3 to a buddy who needed one so before giving it to him I backed up all my saves to a flash drive. then I used the external hard drive to back up what I could not fit on the flash drive. after buying the new system I plugged in the flash drive and copied the saves over to the new PS3. just now I realized I did not restore the rest of the back up so I plugged in the drive and hit the restore well the PS3 formatted the drive before doing the restore process. but since after moving the save files from the flash drive to the PS3 I deleted those files off of the drive . so long story short my system data IS back but it wiped all my game saves and pictures I had on the PS3's hard drive x2. If I had known that the PS3 would format itself before restoring the data believe me I would have NOT done it, and I would have made sure I backed up the saves and pics to the flash drive again x3.
