I'm posting this for my friend whose got an issue with his PS3.
So today I basically I got to the source of where I think this issue may have come from, but I wanted to bring it up here to see if anyone else has some knowledge.
He told me about a week ago that his PS3 stopped reading most of his discs and that's a problem I've seen on here already. He did the system restore thing and it seemed to fix it, however he still had the issue popping back up, and he ended up restoring it a couple times after that. After talking to him at work today he finally told me what he had been doing before the issue occurred.
So I let him borrow Uncharted 2 and before playing he decided to delete some old game data. He started deleting Resistance 3 (I have no idea how large that game data is but I think he said it was a little over 2 gigs) and as he started to delete Resistance 3 it was stuck on the "Counting..." process for deletion. He told me it was stuck like that for about 15 minutes and he needed to leave for work, he tried to wait but he decided to turn off the system.
I told him that was bad to turn off the system when the hard drive is working like that (it shouldn't have taken that long anyways but yeah) and I think that may be the issue with a corrupted hard drive now.
Would that cause issues in reading game discs? I originally thought that his disc drive died on him like some of these other threads have mentioned, but when he told me he turned off his system during a delete I turned it over to a hard drive issue. Would a new hard drive fix this? Or anything else?
And also, his PS3 is rather new. About a year 1/2 old so this was very unfortunate to hear about.
