Aaron Sorkin's Lucille Ball Biopic (Kidman)

First trailer:

Wait, who's Alia Shawkat playing? About time she broke into prestige pieces like this.

That said this hasn't really sold me. Still pretty doubtful on the casting and Sorkin is just a terribly boring director. I love that the story is getting told, though, so I'll be there to see it. I just hope more effort gets put into the inevitable Zero Mostel flick.

Debra Messing should have walked into this role surely ?

When you have Nicole Kidman, why would you need any any other actress?
It looks as if she fit the role seamlessly.

I keep telling myself to be open minded about this, but the amount of times I've had to do that at this point is concerning.

Looks like Nicole Kidman just being Nicole Kidman with her trying super hard to make a crazy face lol. Doesn't work for me at all. Horrible casting. She didn't do anything with her voice either.

Where is Kathryn Hahn when you need her?

The complete opposite.

Not really? There's more to playing a person than looking like them. We've seen Messing recreate Lucille Ball before, and the acting isn't there. Kidman doesn't feel like the right choice either, but Messing's qualifications stop at the resemblance, IMO.

Yeah.
I'm not seeing it guys.

Now , I'm biased since I was old enough to watch the real Lucille Ball when see was still alive and I remember when she passed away.

I also grew up watching the 50s show and the stuff she did in the 80s , so , i've pretty much seen her all my life in multiple roles and interviews.

So my frame of reference is more than just the 50s show. So the whole, " But you just know the TV show" argument really doesn't work with me.

But I'll give the film a chance .

If they were skewing this age range, Blanchett would have been ideal imo.

I did not like that trailer, and as much as I adore Nicole Kidman, she is no Lucille Ball.

This was truly a job for Julianne Moore.

JK simmons is spot on as William Frawley though.

I was trying to think of other potential actresses. It made me think of Rachel McAdams being paired with Poe Dameron, and this whole casting annoyed me more. :funny:

According to Sorkin, Lucille Ball looked nothing like Lucy Ricardo in real life.

It’s not a show that if we took a fresh look at today, we’d think was funny, I don’t think.

Oh, I don’t know Sorkin. Still funnier than 90% of the sitcoms today!
