Accidental shooting kills one on set of new Alec Baldwin movie

Man…this is just going to get uglier and uglier. I cannot say I blame the family at all though.

At least one other lawsuit has already been filed. But this one — by the family of victim — was a foregone conclusion and no surprise at all.

If the brakes unintentionally go out for example on a car Vin Diesel drives/crashes in a movie it's not Vin Diesel's fault. If Vin Diesel was a producer on crappy-run movie set he can potentially be responsible in that way. That's what I think.

In this lawsuit situation, it’s not surprising that Hutchins’ family would cast blame in the broadest possible terms. And it’s not surprising that Baldwin would mount a defense. A complicating factor, however, is that Baldwin was also a producer, responsible (presumably) for the overall safety on set. So it may turn out that the same person isn’t liable as an actor, but is as a producer.

If I’m recalling correctly, Brandon Lee’s family sued a number of individuals involved with The Crow tragedy: several producers (of course), but also the prop master and actor Michael Massee (who fired the gun). I assume, however, that the settlement reached was paid by the various production companies and insurers — not individuals. And Massee was never criminally charged.

It looks like Halyna’s husband was very upset about the interview Alec Baldwin gave. I can see why. He shouldn’t have spoken to the press about it so soon as it made it more about him. While I don’t think it was his fault in terms of pulling the trigger, I can see why her husband felt betrayed by that interview.

JESUS.

Squinty's career's so ****ing dead if this is true.
Baldwin may have had a sincere belief that he didn’t pull the trigger. Since they were just rehearsing how the gun was to be drawn from the holster, there was no need to dry fire the weapon. And this may have informed Baldwin’s recollection of events. But almost certainly (and as the FBI test confirmed), the trigger was pulled.

In any case, life-or-death on a movie set shouldn’t come down to whether some actor accidentally or carelessly pulls the trigger of a prop gun. It’s all about the live round in the gun.

I really hope you're right. It just doesn't look good is all.

Wow.

They really don't expect people to actually come to the theater and watch this do they?

It seems to be coming from a respectful place as Halyna Hutchen’s husband is exec producing now and wants her work to be shown.

Since the liability was obvious, a settlement (as opposed to a judgment) was a near certainty. But there still remains, apparently, the question of criminal charges.

As to the completion and release of the film… Well, Rust will have an enormous PR problem, which will undoubtedly affect its marketing and commercial success (or lack thereof). OTOH, Twilight Zone The Movie and The Crow — movies that also killed people — were eventually released. And they made money.

"Do you think production will ever start again?"

" No I doubt it"

Well that aged well.

Always wondered why he had a impromptu press conference on the side of the road. I get the paparazzi was following him but this was the wrong move. This guy really should have just laid low and avoided the press at all cost. The more he talked the worse he incriminated himself.

I was never going to see it, even before Hutchins' death. It looks like a cheap direct-to-DVD flick.
