Across the Spider-Verse Across the Spider-Verse Box Office Thread

Yeah I think its going to crack $120 OW.

I don’t know if box office mojo is accurate sometimes there numbers are off but right now it’s showing 69.7 million for Friday

I have noticed that mojo has issues with the first weekend.

Mon. Ster.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse posted an exceptional and $120.5M opening — one which tracking didn’t see coming, but exhibition did– making it the best start for a summer tentpole YTD, the third best opening for a Spider-Man movie. Among all animated pic openings, Spider-Verse is sixth behind Incredibles 2 ($182.6M), Super Mario Bros ($146.3M), Finding Dory ($135M), Frozen 2 ($130.2M) and Toy Story 4 ($120.9M). The Marvel sequel reps the best start ever for Sony Animation.

Talk about growth in dollars, growth in audience for a subset of a major franchise, but Across the Spider-Verse‘s domestic opening here is 241% ahead of the first movie, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s $35.3M. Reports EntTelligence on admissions this morning for Spider-Verse: “The film is estimated to pull in well over 9M patrons this weekend. (Aside from Super Mario, this is the most attended three-day period for a film since last summer)”. It’s also a remarkable opening for an animated movie which is an ungodly length of 2 hours and 20 minutes.

After Super Mario Bros delivered a huge Easter, look out for next year’s holiday because that’s when part three here of this Sony Animation franchise, Beyond The Spider-Verse, hits on March 29.
Box Office: ‘Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse’ Super $16M Thursday – Deadline

17.5 OW in China.
Oh a China release didn’t cross my mind for some reason. Spidey’s very popular there. I’m not sure how much they are into animation but this should still be a nice boost.

I think the first did around 62 in China so fingers crossed. Total OS so far just under 90. Japan, Korea and most of the Mideast still to come.

Nice. Should be some big boosts to OS when those other markets come in. Would be nice to a good increase for that China number.

Is a billion on the table? Second highest animated opening this year behind Mario.

With that international ow number i dont think so. Mario got $177m internationally ow and had incredible legs and no competition. This has a stacked June to compete against.

But this is still gonna do well.

Calling it now, it's going to have a small drop next weekend and remain at number one.

(looks at Transformers tracking)

Okay, yeah not crazy. Even a 60% drop is going to put it at the high end of Transformers predictions.

I don’t see TF doing well. There have been way too many sequels and only have diminishing returns

Fantastic! This feels like a Batman Begins to The Dark Knight level jump. Across the Spiderverse may not hit a billion but hopefully soft drops will carry this movie to 700-800 million, which is a huge success and sets up Beyond to make a killing next year.

Getting everything it deserves. Hopefully it starts catching on more overseas too.
