As far as I'm concerned the Tomatometer is virtually worthless as an indicator of anything since quite often even the distinction between fresh and rotten is completely arbitrary. I'll stick with Audience % and CinemaScore.

That said 85 to 90+ would be really nice if only to keep people from spazzing.

That's pretty much why I track the RT scores for any movies… I mean, I don't read a huge number of reviews, just a couple, and after I watch a movie, but with these types of movies, it's more to watch the fanbases explode or implode at times.

After Xeno posted that article regarding regular viewer feedback vs. official "critical" responses and whether that has any impact on how well a movie will do, I've become a little more copacetic about critics. 3/4ths of the time, neither myself or my husband agrees with them anyways.

I had to look up 'copacetic' :O

edit: also i didn't see the article, was that recentish?

I can't remember whether this got posted, but another French review, ran through Google Translate magic. Quite a positive review here.

MOVIE . After many film adaptations , this new Marvel is irrefutably to the expectations by matching the first chapter of the saga, even surpassing " Avengers ." Thrilling fight scenes , special effects and stunning visuals , not to mention a cast of first choice which fulfills its task without any imperfection. Fans of the genre will enjoy with " Captain America : The Winter Soldier " which is the Marvel event not to be missed .

Chris Evans in the skin of Captain America

synopsis
After the cataclysmic events in New York of The Avengers, Steve Rogers aka Captain America lived quietly in Washington DC and tries to adapt to the modern world. But when a colleague S.H.I.E.L.D. is attacked, Steve finds himself involved in a web of intrigue that puts the world in danger . Partnering with Black Widow , Captain America struggle to expose a growing conspiracy, while repelling professional killers sent to silence him . When the extent of the evil plan is revealed, Captain America and Black Widow enlists the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves faced with an unexpected and formidable enemy : the Winter Soldier .

An opening to the next " Avengers "
After two exciting adventures , Captain America returns to the big screen for new adventures . " Captain America: The First Avenger " we had the birth of the Marvel heroes , and " Avengers " gathered many superheroes including Thor , Iron Man, Hulk and Captain America among them , to save the world from dangerous Loki. After Joe Johnston, who directed the first game, nobody knew who would live up to lead this new adventure. In March 2012 , Marvel revealed the names of potential candidates : George Nolfi , director of "The Agency" , F. Gary Gray to whom we owe " The Italian Job " , and brothers Anthony and Joe Russo have made "Welcome to Collinwood ."

To everyone's surprise , it is ultimately the Russo brothers who were selected so that their genre is mainly focused in the comedy . The two brothers have the daunting task and the huge challenge of beating the record of " Captain America: The First Avenger " which had grossed over $ 368 million worldwide . In the role of the hero in the colors of the United States , Chris Evan meets present and signs up for the third time , promising a great show . Alongside Steve Rogers , new characters will appear to help him such as Sharon Carter and the Falcon , but his followers as The Black Widow , Nick Fury and Maria Hill.

Captain America will need help to tackle a new invincible enemy named Bucky said the " Winter Soldier " portrayed by Sebastian Stan, known to be one of the most formidable opponents of Steve Rogers aka Captain America . According to producer Kevin Feige , " Captain America : The Winter Soldier " will be of paramount importance in the saga of the Avengers. This second part will open the way for the next " Avengers: Age of Ultron " which is scheduled for 2015 . The producer added that all movies Phase 2 is Captain America and Winter Soldier will have the direct link between the two Avengers.

Still perfectly anchored in the Marvel Universe
Based on the popular Marvel comic book series published for the first time in 1941, " Captain America " is given a new task in high-risk alongside the " Black Widow " alias luscious Scarlett Johansson, and Sebastian Stan , Anthony Mackie , Cobie Smulders , Emily VanCamp and Hayley Atwell, but Robert Redford in the role of Alexander Pierce and Samuel L. Jackson in one of Nick Fury . With this powerful and strengthened desire to cast , the film starts out with a bang without difficulty. The Russo brothers managed the second phase of the adventure " Captain America " with a multitude of special effects taping the viewer to his seat in the early minutes.

The " Marvel " work through its highly effective action scenes which are most of the iceberg. Some time has elapsed since the events that Steve Rogers has lived with other Marvel heroes in " Avengers ." He had time to digest what happened to him . He tries somehow to get used to his new lifestyle , who was found frozen in the ice 70 years after his first adventure .

It provides several missions for SHIELD , until a conspiracy is against them , with the main aim of abolishing all, including Captain America. Based on a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely , the feature lets settle valiantly mysterious plot that revolves around a mysterious organization called HYDRA will be high efficiency.

The blockbuster keeps its promises
Supported by fight scenes and special effects explosives, such as the confrontation between Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan turns surreal although terribly striking about the length or the explosion of a gigantic spaceship crashing on Washington . Chris Evans plays for the third time a heroic captain and we always entices as much by his offbeat humor and incredible acrobatics.

Note the performance of the two new ones in the Marvel universe. Sebastian Stan plays the invulnerable " Winter Soldier ," a killing machine with incredible performance. The actor will almost steal the show from Chris Evans. Anthony Mackie plays the " Falcon " character secretly led by the army air combat , he uses a special device that allows him to fly . He interprets his role with a strong insurance for a first appearance .

You will understand, " Captain America : The Winter Soldier " is highly anticipated Marvel Production moon , and it keeps its promises , both in his script in its torrid pace. One of Marvel 's most successful blockbusters of recent years with recently , " Thor: The Dark World " which was somewhat mitigated and " Iron Man 3 " suitable , Captain America comes out comfortably. The end of the feature is marked as always in the world of film by Marvel post- credits scene , leaving the viewer both tense and glad by what he discovers .

With its quite plausible frame and its share of spectacular special effects , the new Marvel adaptation promises a top-flight entertainment . Articulated a compelling cast of characters who plays a high strength , the result can only be beneficial to arrival. Anthony and Joe Russo, centered in the comedy, win their bet to make an action film worthy of the name , being stronger than the first game .

Heh. WC cites that the WS is developed rather weakly. But they're extremely high on the way Cap's portrayed and love Evans almost as much as I love him!

Good review!

Be aware, that review is LITTERED with spoilers.

Reviews are popping up now?

How they look? I don't want to read them :csad:

More positives than negatives, I think. A couple of "meh" reviews from France. Gizmodo reviewer liked the movie, said it wasn't "life-changing" LOL! Likely meaning it was good, not great (not as good as the Avengers).

WhatCulture is very positive, giving it 4 out of 5 stars. Basically cites the plot may be a little too convoluted and the WS not well-developed enough… which kind of contradicts what Tee's said, as well as Gizmodo reviewer who loved the battles between WS and Cap. So…

WS won't be developed fully in this movie if his storyline matches TWS comic.

Their article on the "10 things wrong with the MCU nobody is talking about" pisses me off to no end.

For one thing, the points are dumb and awfully biased against the Marvel films, most of them are just not correct
And for another, I have heard most of those arguments before, so people are talking about them.

OTOH, I agree almost entirely with their ranking of the 31 Marvel films (outside of putting X:FC so high)

Awesome find, speno! And that site seems more geared toward mainstream too. LOVE that they were all over ScarJo in the movie… Hannah Ross, the reviewer, didn't mention anyone else it looks like LOL!

By the way, where are you finding these reviews? They're not popping up on Twitter for me.

And since he's Bucky, his development's ongoing. It sounds more like the qualms the reviewer had about his development is the product of the story, that he was brainwashed.

It might work for some. For others, it might not.

The really promising thing is that the reviewers seem to be overall liking the movie. Even the more mixed reviews are mostly positive overall.

To say he's not developed shows and cite that as a negative shows they don't know the basic premise of WS. He's meant to be a programmable assassin with little feeling/emotion. He's got a slow character arc in the WS comic storyline so I wouldn't expect anything less in his MCU arc.

I get why they wouldn't want to blow their load by bringin [BLACKOUT]Red Skull[/BLACKOUT] back yet, but:

I assume all this means Pierce is just Pierce

which leaves the film without much of a real bad guy, just bureaucrats, corrupt agents, and one silent assasin.

Guess that makes it more like the real world, but it's strange there isn't some big puppet-master reveal

Audiences go easy on movies. It´s not that difficult for a movie to have 85%.

I actually prefer IMDB. On Rotten Tomatoes people tend to give high ratings to easily. A lot of movies have ratings of 4/5 and 4.5/5.

If there's not a puppet master reveal, and Pierce is truly just Pierce, I'm sort of happy about that. Kind of? I sort of preferred him to be a twisted, corrupted, version of a high-ranking bureaucrat who thinks his actions are for the greater good, etc…

It might have been neat to squeeze in one more villain/character, but I'm okay if they don't.
