Something that has long baffled me is how movies are edited to play on TV. When things are edited to play on network TV that's one thing, there are FCC laws to deal with but on cable it is awful. There's no actual legal reason for cable channels to edit movies, just what they think their sponsers will be comfortable with.
While most TV edits simply bleep or dub over a few individual lines, sometimes the way they handle the changes either ruin the scene or simply just don't make sense.
What TV edits most stick out to you?
The TV edit that prompted me to make this post is Silence of the Lambs. I saw a part of it last night playing on an antenna only channel. During the scene when Buffalo Bill is applying make up they dubbed his line to remove the f-word changing it to. "Would you marry me? I'd marry me. I'd marry me so hard."
Nonsense.
One of my favorite that I've ever encountered is the Big Lebowski. When John Goodman's character is destroying the red sports car they changed "F*** a stranger in the a** to "This is what happens when you try to find a stranger in the alps!"
