All Eyez On Me (Tupac biopoc)

Nice to see a bit of casting continuity with Woolard as big poppa.

The guy playing Pac looks ridiculously accurate.

Sweet this could be great. Its the 90s Hip Hop extended universe

Didn't know that this was happening. Looking forward to this.

‘All Eyez on Me’ Teaser: Tupac Shakur Finally Gets His Own Biopic

Music biopics seem to be everywhere at the moment. Already this year we’ve seen Born to Be Blue (Chet Baker), I Saw the Light (Hank Williams), Miles Ahead (Miles Davis), Elvis & Nixon and the controversial Nina (as in Simone). And as of today we’re making room for yet another, the long-gestating Tupac Shakur movie All Eyez on Me.

Demetrius Shipp Jr. plays the late rapper, who rose to become one of the most iconic musicians of his generation before getting gunned down at age 25. Benny Boom directed. The first All Eyez on Me trailer has just dropped, on what would have been Shakur’s 45th birthday.

The All Eyez on Me teaser trailer shows snippets of his childhood, his run-ins with the law, and his meteoric rise to fame. We get a tiny taste of his music, and hear massive crowds chanting his name, but it’s Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur (played by Danai Gurira) who offers most of the narration. “Son, this ain’t just about you. Like all black men, you have a bullseye on your back,” she warns. She concludes with some timeless advice borrowed from Shakespeare: “To thine own self be true.”

The Tupac Shakur biopic had been in the works on and off for years, going through one director after another. It finally got going last year — perhaps partly thanks to the success of Straight Outta Compton, but definitely even more so to the ticking clock that was the real Afeni Shakur’s about-to-expire rights deal with Morgan Creek Productions.

So far the first All Eyez on Me teaser trailer looks interesting, though of course it’s far too early to judge how the film as a whole has turned out. Besides Shipp and Gurira, All Eyez on Me also stars Jamal Woolard as Biggie Smalls, Kat Graham as Jada Pinkett, Annie Ilonzeh, Dominic L. Santana, and more. All Eyez on Me opens this fall.

Open Road is distributing, huh? Didn't know who grabbed those rights, figured Universal would be all over it.

Looks so cheap

Cast and crew seem really really C level too

The Game was on hand for a very private screening a few days ago alongside the film's lead star, Demetrius Shipp Jr., director Benny Boom and producer L.T. Hutton and sung its praises while making the inevitable comparison to the 2009 Biggie biopic, Notorious.

“I’m proud of the homie Benny Boom and L.T. Hutton; I'm proud for Pac, I'm proud for Afeni [Shakur], I'm proud for the entire West Coast,” an energized Game said to Hutton's Instagram directly following his screening. “I'm proud for Demetrius Shipp; played Tupac. The Tupac movie is the real deal, **** make that Biggie movie look like a cartoon...I don't mean no...ay...that's what it is, homie,” he stated.

Notorious essentially made a profit in theaters but wasn't a critically acclaimed success by any means. Still, the two cinematic universes will be aligned as Biggie actor Jamal "Gravy" Woodard will reprise his role as Pac's most infamous frenemy.

All bias aside, if a West Coast flagbearer such as Game can be satisfied with such a delicate portrayal of one of his heroes, the film has to be at least worth half the weight in co-signs.

Officially announced in 2011, the Morgan Creek Production has experienced its fair share of potholes on the road to a release; seeing several directorial changes (Antoine Fuqua, John Singleton (twice)) while increasing its unicornian lure with each passing year. With the mammoth box office success of last year's Straight Outta Compton, the hype to live up to has also multiplied.

However, Game is on board and sources close to HipHopDX have given similar acclaim to the what is to be considered a very rough edit.

This movie does look good. I just hope they portray him from all angles instead of as the saint his movie always tries to make him out to be.

Faith looks like she just finished giving some good "knowledge".

New teaser is up on the film's YouTube channel, FYI.

Edit: And also on CS.

Might want to get rid of that link due to language.

It is interesting to see Jamal Woolard playing the same role. The Hip-Hop Cinematic Universe, perhaps? If only there were some connection to Straight Outta Compton.

surprised they didn't get the same actor for suge knight from Straight Outta Compton

Still looks really cheap to me.
Sure the guy looks and sounds like Pac. But the quality of this looks really lackluster all the way down the logo.

This looks like a made for TV movie rather than a theatrical release

Yeah I think it does in some cases. There is a movie that is made for cheap and a movie that looks cheap. This is the 2nd.

Making a cheap looking movie can affect the quality. If you release a movie cinematically but it looks like it was shot on a TV budget, that's gonna take me out of it. Even moreso when you're making a period piece that is supposed capture a certain period of time and it looks cheap that's not good.
