All hail the internet C'zar

**** the article. How cool is the title "Cyber Czar"?

what do you mean "with broad power" does that mean like a chick?

The part that scared me was the power over private and public networks. . .

This coincides with bills 773 and 778, which does the same thing...so I suppose it will happen either way. They are going through whatever routes necessary to control the internet.

Also, we've all probably heard of HR6123, the Megan Meier Cyberbullying Prevention Act, which could mean jail time for anyone who hurts someones feelings over the internet...

But then again...I'm a wacky conspiracy theorist...so bills 773 and 778 dont exist, and the article linked above doesnt either. The sponsor of the two non existent bills Senator Rockefeller did not say that we'd be better off without the internet (and he certainly didnt say it in this Youtube clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCkCWxv3kUE ) and HR 6123 doesnt exist either.

Carry on folks, all is well. This is just my imagination.

Oh please! What are you all worried about?
You actually think they are going to ban the internet or pass a law that gets you arrested for calling someone a "Dickwad" on YouTube?
Please...

It sounds more like it's for protecting government information from being stolen or leaked
Also, Senator Rockefeller seems to be much more out of touch with reality and the modern world than some of our Indian politicians...

Actually, in order to be arrested under the act, it has to be repeated insults or criticisms, so no...you can not get arrested for calling someone a name...it has to be several times...with the government having discretion.

And I dont "think" anything....the bills dont exist. Of course, if the bills DID exist, then there would be little "thinking" required, as the bills would spell out their broad, seemingly limitless powers.

But ha ha...you know the government would never exercise those powers. Its just for show.

I find the word Czar to anti-semetic.

However, maybe with this bill they'll arrest the people on Stormfront etc. for hate crimes and threats.

What kind of censorship are we talking about here?
Like, I can't say anything bad about Obama on a public site?
Ok! I'll do it on my personal blog... then again, it would be against, "The Freedom of Speech"

And I doubt the government would be searching through the internet's looking for the slightest hint of piracy. Someone posts, "Dude?! I just downloaded a movie illegally from bit torrent.com!"

Would they force the site to close down or look for the actual pirates?

@Heretic

Why are you so agitated? Is someone there? Is it the FBI? Do they have a black van sating outside your house? :hehe:

No...not a van outside my house...just three bills going through Congress that would limit my freedoms and violate the first amendment.

While youre making fun of these bills, how about READING THEM to see what theyd do rather than just throw out random jokes.

The cyberbullying act WOULD censor you and, according to the powers given, arrest you if you repeatedly criticized a politician in your blog. That is the cause of a lot of the protest against it.

Its funny...the bills clearly exist...and they clearly are destroying freedoms...but you assume that the government would never dream of actually USING these laws once they are passed. You assume its just for show.

Again, before throwing out insults, try reading the bills...but no...its way funnier to not read them, remain ignorant, and insult anyone who actually has read them and takes the government at their word that they will enforce the laws once passed.

By the way...once the Cyberbullying laws are passed...what you just posted could be a violation of the law...its a good thing I wouldnt report you.

What don't you find anti-semetic and why would you find the word "Czar" to be anti-semetic? It's a Russian version of the word Cesear which is a Roman word for King.

I find the word to be anti-democracy more than anti-semetic.

But it hasn't been passed has it? It doesn't matter of they are in consideration. The fact that they have not been passed is proof that the logic behind them is flawed and there would be a serious negative backlash when and if someone was arrested. It would seriously make the ruling party look bad. People say a lot of things. Unless someone is actively trying to harm a politician it should not be a problem.

People would laugh at a politician who claimed to have been hurt by internet remarks of all things. The internet is a powerful tool no doubt. But no revolutions can be started or led from your comfy computer desk

If they have NOT been passed, then it is not destroying any freedoms. Even if it were passed, you would have a hard time looking for people who spewed anti-republican or anti-democratic propaganda on their blogs or something. If someone were to be arrested, it would be huge news and their would be public outcry

You are panicking for no reason. I'm not even insulting you. Your previous posts reeked of sarcasm.

No, the bills have not been passed.

Of course, every bill that has ever been passed went through a peroid where it was not yet passed...thats um...I cant even explain how obvious that is.

But who knows...Congress sometimes surprises me. Ron Paul bill to audit the Fed is picking up steam and that is VERY good news, so occasionally they do things in our best interest.

However, I dont believe this "public outcry" nonsense. People are arrested on ridiculous charges all the time and the public sleeps through it. The public has become complacent sheep that barely even thinks about this stuff.

Id like to think that the public would revolt if these bills were used to their fullest extent, but more than likely the media would label the opposition as crazy anti government terrorists and the public wouldnt want to be associated with that type.

It'll be vague just like the FCC rules which are abused everyday.

Are You Glenn Beck?

The government would never abuse a law! Shame on you!

what I find even funnier about this is that I get your sarcasm, but I know there's some schmuck out there who thinks you're sucking up to the government, similar to what happened with hype around Snakes on a Plane

BTW where's Malice he's usually good about providing facts on net legislation?
