Hi, i dont normally post in this part of the forum but i have been giving Avengers some thought lately. The movie that is... I kept wondering why in the roles of thor and captain america had they looked at so many z-listers for the role. But then it clicked... everyone remembers the x-men movies right. Well - by time they got to the third movie all the stars were mega popular, each fighting for more screen time. Which ruined the movie.

So i figured this, Hulk and Iron Man was cast with Edward Norton and Robert DowneyJr... now the two of them had long movie careers. I wouldnt say either of them were a-listers but they were definatly in the B or C lists prior to them appearing in a marvel property which has given them A list status.

Now is said Avengers movie was to be made, and the Hulk and Iron Man were prominate characters then throughout the script each A-List actor is going to be fighting for more screen time.

There is also a plus factor, Samuel L Jackson is Nick Fury. On appearance along his cameo is like the pin that holds together the structure.

So im thinking that Marvel has been plotting the Avengers movie for some time but its not something they can just go into, its a puzzle that requires loads of little pieces to come together before they start to see the bigger picture.

I've never heard of the actor who is playing thor, and from the candidates that was chosen from lists i have seen all over the web... Jim from the office seemed the only one i reckognise, although more recent lists have familiar faces like Tatum Chaning or whatever that G.I.Joes name was.

Now to me, i feel that this is what they have planned. Hulk will be central to the avengers film. The story will be much a jekle vs hide kind of story with superheroes thrown in. Iron Man will lead the team, not Captain America or Thor but the movie will focus on the four members coming together.

Now i was suspecious of Edward Nortons reluctance to even reprise his role in a sequel let alone another episode in the franchise. But think this, they need to get Thor and Captain America off the ground before they can even attempt a new Hulk or Avengers movie.

Norton is a hugh comic book geek, he is the only that fixed the script that made Incredible hulk actually good.

I think that Edward Norton & John Favareu have been working on The Avengers movie... as both seem to have distanced themselves from that project.

anyone else think this?

Are you serious? RDJ and EN were not B or C listers. These guys were oscar-nominated actors before Marvel Entertainment was even formed. If anything, getting these guys to play the leading roles added authenticity to the movies. You have this backwards.

This is what Norton has been saying lately to the media.

Although I haven't seen the script written by Zak Penn, the re-writes Norton made probably helped. Agreed.

Although it is possible, Favareau probably has not done much yet with Avengers since IM2 is coming off the ground and into theaters very soon. Other than to provide some input as to how Avengers can come together, the suits have probably done most of the planning as of now. I don't see Norton working on it at all right now.

I cannot feasibly see Iron Man as the team leader for Avengers. Iron Man 2 seems to be all about making him into the team player (it's in the trailers) and Captain America (from the various rumors about plot) seems to be about making Cap into a leader. I highly doubt they're going to just throw that character building away and flip the roles in Avengers.

And I would have to disagree, I think with all the time they've had with this movie that they've found a way to get EVERYBODY good screen time.

Did anyone actually read the comics... Iron Man lead the avengers more than captain america did.

Robert DowneyJr & Edward Norton are B-listers until the marvel movies... oscar winners doesnt exactly make you an A-Lister...

Edward Norton was pretty much a z-lister until fight club which pretty much made him a c-lister but from then his roles were sparce and he became pretty much a cult icon. mostly for his fight club role. It wasnt until red dragon, Itallian Job era did he become from c to b lister status wise. People wanted more from him but he doesnt do much acting work, it wasnt until The Incredible Hulk where he was actively involved and the story was greate had many elements that he actually became between a B to A lister.. hes still sitting on the fence between statuses.

Robert DowneyJr on the other hand has a whole different rise to fame.
now i remember Downey in weird science... but that movie didnt make his career.
he became famous for his life style and sort of maintained small roles in films... his only real big movie was where he played chaplin, but His rise to a c-lister came when he appeared in ally mcbeal. you look at the movies he done from then on he started to be on demand. a few cult movies made him a b lister but when he got to Iron Man he made that movie, he essentiallly did for tony stark what hugh jackman did for wolverine. so far the only two perfect casting in the marvel universe.

so when you look at it from that point of view both norton and downeyjr only became a-listers when they got marvel property.

I don't know why I'm entertaining this comment. I seriously do not agree. Why was everybody jumping for joy when RDJ and EN signed on to play the leads? It sure wasn't because they were the last choices available. And it wasn't because they "looked" the part (that was a bonus). Currently, Marvel has not "made" any stars, nor have they increased the "status" of any particular actor. They looked for accomplished talent. If anything, Chris Hemsworth will be the least known of their leads, unless they go with an unknown for Cap. I just don't understand how you could possibly think that Marvel made these guys A listers. Sure big movies that did well, but that doesn't equal respect.

I stopped reading when this guy said Norton was a B-lister. :whatever:
